Description

p 1954 J. J. LUBBERTS ETAL CABINET FOR MACHINES Filed Jan. 13, 1949 INVENTORS JOHN F.LUBBERTS By L'AMBERT J.MULDER ATTORNEYS Patented Sept. 7, 1954 CABINET FOR MACHINES John J. Lubberts and Lambert J. Mulder, Grand Rapids, Mich., assignors to Ironrite, Inc., Mount Clemens, Mich, a corporation of Michigan Application January 13, 1949, Serial No. 70,662
1 Claim.
The present invention relates to cabinet structure for machines, specifically ironing machines.
Among the objects of the present invention is to provide a cabinet which is neat in appearance, economical to produce, and which, while completely enclosing the machine, may be opened to expose the latter for unobstructed use with the simplest of operating mechanism.
Another object is a cabinet in which the movable cover portion rests on the supporting structure rather than on any part of the machine itself.
Still other objects and advantages will be apparent to those skilled in the art upon reference to the following description and the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the cabinet in closed position.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the cabinet in open position but from a different angle.
Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Fig. 1, showing a detail of construction.
As indicated in the drawing, the cabinet consists of a base portion having four legs [0 provided with castors II and suitably braced by members 12 one of which extends between each pair of the end legs and the other between the two rear legs.
Each of the legs is provided at its upper end with a rectangular pad portion l3 having on two sides, and at a lower level a shoulder l4 and each pair of end legs is connected at the upper ends by member [5, the upper surface of which is flush with the shoulder 14, so as to, in eifect, continue the shoulder along the ends of the assembly.
Upon the pads I3 is securely fixed, for example, an ironing machine indicated as a whole by the numeral 28. This machine should be of such overall area as to lie within the rectangle of the four leg pads I3 and in the drawings is indicated as provided with a base 22 and with table portions 2| hinged thereto and therefore movable to the position shown, that is, to bring them within the required area.
Hinged to the back of base 22 is a rectangular box-like cover 30 of suflicient height to enclose the machine and rest upon the shoulders i4 and member l5 and thereby completely cover the machine and base 22. The width of sh0ul der [4 and the thickness of Wall of the cover 30 should also be so related that the outer surface of the latter will be substantially flush with the outer surfaces of the legs I9 when the cover is closed.
We claim:
A machine cabinet comprising a base having front, rear and end portions, legs supporting said base at the corners thereof, the front leg supporting the said front portion of said base having an enlarged upper end portion, pads positioned on the said enlarged end portion of said legs extending across the front portion of said front legs and across the said end portion of said base, a shoulder on said legs disposed below said pad and extending across the front and around the end surfaces of said pad, end members attached to said front legs having shoulders forming an end extension of the shoulders on said legs across the end portions of said base, and a box-like cover on said base when in the closed position resting upon and being supported by said shoulders and the said end extensions thereof, the front portion of said base being disposed above the level of said pads and the area below the said front portion of said base and between the said front legs being open.
