BOBBY PIN HOLDER AND SPREADER Filed Nov. 30, 1951 INVENTOR HENRY M. BOHMHOLDT BY 77am;- pm r ATTORNEYS Patented Aug. 31, 1954 OFFICE BOBBY rm HOLDER AND SPREADER Henry M; Bohmholdt, Niagara Falls, N. Y.
Application November 30, 1951, Serial No.
2 Claims. (01. 132-1) spreader forjbobby p ns for use byahair- This invention relates to an improved holder and and which is simple and durable in construction, economical to manneat and attractive in on the line 2-2 of Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a transverse cross-sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
With continued illustrated bobby inch thick, and 1 inches in width. The bar has straight and substantially parallel side edges II and I2 and semicircularly rounded ends l3 and trio with the curvature of the corresponding ends of the bar.
In applying a smooth or straight hole [1 involved and pull the corrugated leg 20 off Of the near edge ll of the bar [0, as shown in Figure 2.
For maximum spreading of a bobby pin, la, the ridged or corrugated leg 20 is inserted through one of the holes I! from one side of the bar I 0, and the free end of the smooth leg [9 is rested against the same side of the bar [0, with the free end of the smooth leg 19 positioned close to the far edge l2 end of the bobby pin the smooth leg I9 under the far side edge [2 of the bar l0 and thereby spread the bobby pin. a, materially greater amount than is obtainable by the arrangement shown in Figure 2. Then, while holding the bobby pin in spread condition bea pull on the bobby the bar If], so that the corrugated leg 20 of the hobby pin is drawn out of the hole IT in the meaning and range 3 the bobby pins can be either are removed from Ill than the other, partly or fully spread as they the bar.
The bar H] can be easily loaded with bobby pins during the leisure or convenience of the operator, and when loaded, may be supported by hanging it from a nail or peg extending through one of the apertures I5 or 16 in the bar until the loaded holder is required for use.
The end portions of the bar In in which the holes [5 and I6 are provided constitute handle portions, one at each end of the bar, and it is contemplated that the bar will be held by a customer with each hand of the customer grasping a handle portion at the corresponding ends of the bar 10, so that the operator .can quickly and easily remove bobby pins from the bar and insert them directly into the hair of the customer Without loss of time.
The invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential characteristics thereof. The present embodiment is, therefore, to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claims rather than by the foregoing description, and all changes which come within the of equivalency of the claims are, therefore, intended to be embraced therein.
What is claimed is:
l. A holder and spreader for bobby pins each having a straight leg and a corrugated leg connected together at one end by a bight, comprising a fiat bar having straight side edges and having one end portion thereof serving as a handle,
said bar being provided with a plurality of holes arranged in longitudinal spaced relation therealong intermediate said one end portion and the other end thereof, each of said holes being nearer to one than the other of said side edges and being adapted to receive either the straight leg or corrugated leg of said pin while the other leg is deflected outwardly by frictional contact with either said one side edge of said plate or with the adjacent face of said plate.
2. A holder and spreader for bobby pins each having a straight le and a corrugated leg connected together at one end by a bight, comprising a flat bar having straight side edges and having each end portion thereof serving as a handle, said bar being provided with a row of holes arranged in longitudinal aligned spaced relation therealong intermediate said end portions, each of said holes being nearer to one than the other of said side edges and being adapted to receive either the straight leg or corrugated leg of said pin while the other leg is deflected outwardly by frictional contact with either said one side edge of said plate or with the adjacent face of said plate.
