This invention relates to the ofiicial class of surgery and more particularly a new and novel invalid bed soaker.

One of the objects of this invention resides in the provision of a bed soaker adapted to be placed beneath the buttocks 0f invalids or bed patients who are unable to control their bowel movements.

Another object of this invention resides in the provision of a bed soaker for use by invalids or bed patients who are unable to properly use toilet:

facilities and have involuntary eliminations.

A further object of'this invention resides in the provision of a bed soaker adapted to be placed beneath bedridden patients who are unable to control their bowel movements so as to protect? their beds from becoming soiled.

A still further object of this invention resides in the provision of a bed soaker adapted to be placed beneath invalids or bed patients and function to protect the bed from becoming soiled by involuntary or accidental eliminations.

Aside from the foregoing objects, this invention resides in the provision of a bed soaker adapted to be easily disposed beneath a patient and removed for cleaning.

One of the salient features of this invention resides in the construction and combination of elements comprising the bed soaker.

With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of elements to be hereinafter more particularly set forth in the specification, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claims and, although this disclosure depicts my present conception of the invention, the right is reserved to resort to such departures therefrom as come within the scope of the claims.

In the present embodiment of this invention, the numeral 5 designates, in general, a bed soaker 2v adapted to be disposed beneath the buttocks of bed confined invalids who-are unable to properly use toilet facilities and-have involuntary elimination and consists of aplastic or waterproofbase 6 of substantially rectangular configuration-having certain portions; of the sides 1 folded inwardly and-secured at their abutting ends 8 to form an enlarged opening 9-=in its upper surface through which an absorbentpad iii-or othersuitable material is removably inserted. Also removably insertedin the aforesaid opening with-its major portion resting on the aforesaid pad and its-edge portions disposed beneath thesides '1 ofth'e base, is a cover I I formed'of cotton cloth or othersuitable material.

Secured to that inturned portion of the base which is herein designated the lower side A is a wick feeder i2 formed of cotton cloth 13 or other suitable material secured to a piece of plastic material Hi and, although the aforesaid wick is herein shown as being of rectangular configuration and attached to said certain portions of the base, it may be secured to the cloth cover I I, pad It or removably retained in proper position on the base by simply inserting its lower end E beneath side A or other elements mentioned just so its functions are equally and satisfactorily performed.

Moulded or otherwise secured at certain opposite corners on the bottom of the base and adjacent certain side edges thereof are companion looped tabs l5 and 16 arranged in parallelism with the adjacent edges of the base while likewise secured to adjacent opposite corners of the base are laterally spaced looped tabs l1 and I8 arranged at right angles to the adjacent edges of the base for a purpose to be hereinafter set forth.

Disposed over the base and aforesaid elements associated therewith is a top formed from substantially rectangular material I9 preferably of plastic or other suitable character cut out to provide leg receiving areas 20 on opposite sides of a crotch portion 2| and between abdomen and skirt portions 22 and 23.

Moulded or otherwise secured to the aforesaid abdomen portion of the top are companion pairs of straps S adapted to be tied to the looped tabs [5 and it while likewise secured to the skirt portion are straps T adapted to be tied to said looped tabs I! and 18. Through the instrumentality of the aforesaid tabs and straps, the top is prevented from shifting both longitudinally and laterally relative to the base and, thereby comfortably secures the base and associated elements carried thereby in proper positions to take care of eliminations of patients unable to control their actions.

With this invention fully described it is manifest that a bed soaker is provided whereby invailds and bed patients cannot soil their bed clothing and, through the particular construction of the same, it can be readily placed in operative position and removed for cleaning.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

l. The combination with a base having inturned sides forming an enlarged opening in its upper side, an absorbent material removably disposed in the base with its major portion exposed through said opening, a sheet of cotton cloth resting on the absorbent material with its edge portions extending beneath the inturned sides of the base, an absorbent wick secured to a certain inturned side of the base and extending upwardly therefrom, a Waterproof top including abdomen,

' crotch and leg engaging portions disposed over the opening and aforesaid elements carried by, and means securing the top to, the base.

2. The combination with a base, an absorbent material carried by the base, a cotton cloth disposed on the upper surface of said absorbent material, an absorbent wick disposed adjacent one end of the base and extending upwardly therefrom, a waterproof top having leg receiving and crotch and abdomen engaging portions disposed over said cotton cloth, looped tabs formed on the bottom of the base, and straps secured to certain portions of the top tied to said looped tabs.

3. An invalid bed soaker comprising a substantially rectangular base having inturned sides forming an enlarged opening in the top thereof, companion pairs of looped tabs formed on the bottom of the base adjacent certain opposite corners thereof and lying in parallelism with the adjacent side edges of the base, other looped tabs formed on the bottom of the base adjacent that opposite end thereof retaining the first mentioned looped tab and lying at right angles to the same in close proximity to the adjacent edges of the base, an absorbent pad removably disposed within the base with its major portion exposed through the opening therein, a cotton cloth resting on the upper surface of said pad and having its edged portions removably inserted beneath the inturned sides of the base, an absorbent wick including a waterproof backing secured to a certain inturned side of the base and extending upwardly in opposed disposition to the crotch of an individual resting on the cotton cloth, a waterproof top having leg receiving and abdomen engaging portions disposed over the base with certain portions thereof extending beneath the same, and straps secured to those portions of the top extending beneath the base tied to said looped tabs.

4. In an invalid bed soaker the combination of a waterproof base having a pocket therein and carrying an absorbent element with its upper surface exposed, a cotton cloth over the absorbent element, a top including leg, crotch and abdomen engaging portions disposed over the absorbent element, and means removably securing the top to the base of the bed soaker.
