WITNESSES 6 I fggiE N T01}? I 1 fialio new v UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIO ROBERT FAGAN AND L. SANDIDGE ALLISON, OF HAZLETON, FENNSYLVANIA.
DEVICE FOR FILLING POWDER FROM KEGS, 81.0.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 268,473, dated December 5, 1882, I
Application filed September 7, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it know that we, ROBERT FAGAN and L. SANDIDGE ALLISON, both of Hazleton, in the county of Luzerne and State ofPennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Filling Powder firom keg or box when not in use, and obviate any danger of accidental explosion.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of our improved filler. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same applied to a ke Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view on the line or m, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the main tube or cylinder.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a tube or cylinder having an open lower end, B, in which is secured a transverse stem or tang, 0, having an arrow-shaped head, D, projecting out from the bottom of cylinder A, and having a greaterdiameter than said cylinder, as shown. Cylinder Ais screw threaded, as at E, on which threads works a correspondinglyscrew-threaded collar, F, having a flaring Orinverted-funoel-shaped bottom, G, which may be provided Wllll lateral thumb-operating flanges H H. At its top cylinder A is also screw-threaded, I, to provide for a correspondingly screw-threaded cap-piece, J, provided with a lateral-operating flange, K, and with an opening, L, in its side. Opening L is adapted by turning cap J to register with a corresponding opening, M, in the side of cyl inder A.
To attach our filler to the box or barrel the bung is removed from the opening N, in the latter, and the arrow-head of tube A inserted therein by being placed in the position shown in dotted lines, Fig.2. Collar F is then screwed down till its lower edges bind an annular washer, O, of gum, rubber, leather, or other suitable material, placed around opening N.
. After the device has been placed in position it is only necessary to turn cap J until its opening L registers with opening M, when the powder'will run out into the cartridge or other receptacle. The arrow-head D serves to sepmate the grains of powder at the opening N, and prevent any clogging.
Our invention is very convenient and useful, and renders the operation of filling perfecily safe.
We claim as new- 1. The combination, witha tube or cylinder, A, having an Open' lower end in which is secured the tang of a'projecting substantiallyarrow shaped h ead,'l),of a. movable collar, F, having a flaring bottom flange, Gr,as setforth.
2. The combination, with a tube, A, having an opening, M, and an openlowcr end, B, in which is secured the tang U, of a projecting arrow-shaped head, D, a movable lower collar, F, having a flaring bottom, G, and a cappiece, J, having an opening, L, in its side, as set forth.
3. The combination of a tube, A, having screw-threads E I, and opening M in its side at the top, and a projecting substantiallyarrow-shaped head D, having a lang, O, a screw-threaded collar, F, having a fllaring bottom, G, and a cap, J, screw-threaded and provided with a corresponding opening, L, in its side, as set forth.
4. The combination, with a vessel, having an opening, N, of'a tube, A, having arrow-shaped head D, a collar, F, having a flaring bottom, G, and an annular washer, O, as set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own we have hereto affixed our. signatures in presence of two witnesses ROBERT FAGAN. L. SANDIDGE ALLISON.
