It isstill another object of the invention to provide an automatic loom of the kind referred towhich is simple in construction and reliable in operation.
According to a main feature of the invention a loom of the kind referred to comprises in combination a batten having a slay beam and a lateralproiection of said slay beam, guides arranged on said projection, a shuttle box slid'ably arranged in said guides and, having several cells adapted to be alternatively brought to the level of the said slay beam by shifting the said shuttle box in the said; guides, a cop changer box arranged onthe level of the said slay beamoutside the said shuttle box a box tongue for each of the said cells, biasing means for each box tongue arranged for pressing it into its respective cell for applying a braking action on a shuttle entering said cell, movable release means for each of the said box tongues arranged on the said. shuttle boxv for allowing the box tongue ofthe cell actually. on. the level of the slay beam to move out of the way of the shuttle and to let the same pass into said cop changer box, and locking means operatively 7 connected to the weft supply motion of the loom and arrangedfor lockin said release means against allowing the said. box tongue to move out of the way of the shuttle during normal operation of the ;loom and for unlocking said. release means preparatory to a cop changeby the weft supply motion of theloom.
Other objects and features of the invention will become'apparent from the following description ofa typical embodiment thereof given hereinafter, by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:

' With 1 the shuttle box on one side of the automatic loom is denoted which in the embodiment represented, has e. g. three cells la, I b and to. In the cell la there is in the embodiment represented a shuttle 2. On the batten 3 of the loom two box guides 4 and 5 are attached, in which the shuttle box I is guided shiftably. With 6 the cop changierbox is denoted which is arranged outside of the shuttle box I. Each of the three cells la, lb and la of the shuttle box I is provided with a box tongue 70:, lb and lo, respectively which are pressed by leaf springs 8a, 8b and 80 against the shuttle box I. The box tongues la, lb and lo are pivoted on one leg of a twoarmed lever 9a, 9b and 50, respectively, about a bolt Illa, lllb and lllc, respectively, which levers 9a, 9b and 9c are pivoted on an axle II which is fixedly arranged on the shuttle box I so as to be individually tiltable.
On the box guide there is arranged a rail l2 extending over its full height which on the level of the slay beam has an interruption I3. Outside this rail l2, the box guide 5 has a groove l4 wherein a slide I5 is shiftable. On the slide l5 a bolt I6 is arranged which lies in the forked end of one leg of a two-armed lever H. The lever I1 is tiltably pivoted on an axle pin l8 inserted into the box guide 5. To the end of the other leg of the lever l'l, one end of a pull rod 20 is articulated by means of a joint l9, the other end of which rod is articulated by means of a joint 2| to the end of an arm of a twoarmed lever 22. The lever 22 is tiltably pivoted on an axle 23, which is fixed to the slay sword bracket. With the end of the other arm of the lever 22 a pull rod 25 is connected by means of a joint 24, the other end of which is articulated by means of a joint 26 to one end of a follower lever 21. The arrangement of the lever 22 is made so that at normal operation of the loom i. e. when no change of cops is taking place, the axis of the joint 24 coincides with the axis of the bolt 28 of the slay sword. This arrangement has the effect that upon the to-and-fro movement of the batten 3 in this position of the lever 22 the slide [5 is not displaced with respect to the box guide 5. The follower lever 21 is pivoted on an axle 29 which is fixedly arranged in the frame of the loom (not shown in the drawing) and it carries a roller 30 which is pressed against a cam disc 32 by a spring 3| engaging the follower lever 21 at its one end and attached to the frame of the loom at its other end. The cam disc 32 sits on a shaft 33 which when changing a weft pirn of a shuttle 2 is set in rotation by means of a device initiating the change of cops (not shown in the drawing) and in the course of the changing of the weft pirn makes one revolution.
As long as there is no shuttle in one of the cells la, lb or lo, the inward directed leg of the respective lever 9a, 9b or 90 abuts against stop 34a, 34b or 340, respectively, on the shuttle box I under the action of a leaf spring 8a, 8b or 80 acting on it. Upon normal operation of the loom i. e. when no change of pirns is taking place, the follower lever 21 is in the position indicated in Fig. 3 by I. The two-armed lever 22 is also in the position indicated in Fig. 3 by I in which, as mentioned, the axis of the joint 24 coincides with the axis of the bolt 28 of the slay sword. The two-armed lever I1 is during this time in the position denoted in Fig. 1 also by I wherein the slide l5 which is held by it reaches under the outwardly directed arm 9a, 9b, 9c of the levers 9a, 9b or 90, respectively, which lies on the level of the slay beam and which consequently could drop into the interruption l3 of the rail l2 of the box guide 5. The respective lever 9a, 9b or 90 the other arm of which abuts on the stop 34a, 34b or 340, respectively, is locked in this manner. The levers 9a, 9b or 90 which do not lie in the level of the slay beam are also locked since their outwardly pointing arms 9a, 9b, respectively, abut on the rail l2 of the box guide 5.
When the exchange of a shuttle pirn is initiated by a Weft supply motion (not shown in the drawing) of the loom, the shaft 33 is set in rotation, and by the cam disc 32 acting on the roller 30 of the follower lever 21 the latter is rocked into the position shown in Fig. 3 and denoted II. Thereby also the two-armed lever 22 is rocked into the position shown in Fig. 3 and denoted II, and moreover the two-armed lever l! is rocked by the pull rod 25, the lever 22 and the pull rod 20, into the position shown in Fig. 1 and denoted II, which causes the slide l5 to be shifted downward in the groove I l. Accordingly this slide l5 clears the interruption l3 of the rail [2 and thereby also the outwardly directed leg of the lever 9a, 9b or 90 that lies on the level of the slay beam so that this lever can drop into this interruption l3 of the rail l2. When now the shuttle 2 runs into the cell la, lb or lc which is on the level of the slay beam, the box tongue la, lb or To, respectively, thereof, the end of .which that lies towards the slay beam and is held pressed against the shuttle box by means of a lever 36 arranged on shaft 35 can move out of the way and the shuttle 2 is not retained in the respective cell la, lb or lc, but flies, though somewhat slowed down, along into the cop changer box 6. As soon as this shuttle is provided with a new pirn by the weft supply motion of the loom, the slide I5 is again pushed upward in the groove l4 by means of the cam disc 32 which for this purpose has an appropriate shape of cam and which is in operative motion connection with the weft supply mechanism via the follower lever 21, the pull rod 25, the lever 22, the pull rod 20 and the lever l'l, so that the said slide bridges again the interruption l3 of the rail l2 and locks again the respective lever 9a, 9b or 90. When now the shuttle 2, equipped with a new spool, is pushed back from the cop changer box 6 into the respective cell Id, lb or l c, it is at any time braked by the box tongue la, lb or To, respectively which is under the pressure of the lever 36 arranged on the shaft 35, and which can no longer move out of the way because of the locking of the lever 9a, 9b or 90, respectively which is articulated to it.
I wish it to be understood that I do not desire to be limited to the exact details of construction shown and described, for obvious'modificati ons will occur to a person skilled in the art.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: r
1. In Or for a loom having an automatic weft supply motion, the combination comprising a batten having a slay beam .and a lateral projection of said slay beam, guides arranged on said projection, a shuttle box slidably arranged in said guides and having several cells adapted to be alternatively brought to the level of the said slay beam by shifting the said shuttle box in the said guides, a cop changer box arranged on the level of the said slay beam outside the said shuttle box, a box tongue for each of the said cells, biasing means for each box tongue arranged for pressing it into its respective cell for applying a braking action on a shuttle, movable release means for each of the said box tongues arranged on the said shuttle box for allowing the box tongue of the cell actually on the level of the slay beam to move out of the way of the shuttle and to let the same pass into said cop changer box, and locking means operatively connected to the weft: supply motion of the loom and arranged for locking said: release means against allowing the said box tongue-to move out of the way of the shuttle during normal operation of the loom and for unlocking said release means preparatory to a cop change by the weft supply motion of the loom. a o

In or for a loom having, an automatic Weft supply motion, the combination comprising a batten. having a slay sword and. a, slay beam; an axle arranged for pivoting the said slay swordin the loom, a lateral projection of said slay beam, guides arranged on said projection, a shuttle box slidably arranged in said guides and having several cells adapted to be alternatively broughtto the level of the said slay beam by shifting the said shuttle box in the said guides, a cop changer box arranged on the level of the said slay beam outside the said shuttle box, a box tongue for each of the said cells, biasing means for each box tongue arranged for pressing it into the respective cell for applying a braking action on a shuttle entering the said cell, movable release means for each of the said box tongues arranged on the said shuttle box for allowing the box tongue of the cell actually being on the level of the slay beam to move out of the way of the shuttle and to let the same pass into said cop changer box, locking means arranged for locking said release means against allowing the said box tongue to move out of the way of the shuttle and for unlocking said release means, driving means operatively connected to the weft supply motion of the loom, and linkage means arranged for operating said locking means by said driving means, said linkage means containing a joint arranged for being kept coaxially with the axle of the said slay sword during normal operation of the loom so as to keep the said release means locked unaffected by the rocking movement of the batten about said axle, and to be moved to an eccentrical position relative to said axle by the said driving means preparatory to a cop changer operation so as to unlock the said release means for the said box tongue by the rocking movement of the said batten.
3. The combination as claimed in claim 2, said driving means for operating the said linkage comprising a cam disc journalled in the loom and arranged for being turned in synchronism, with the weft supply motion of the loom, a follower lever, a roller journalled in the said follower lever and arranged for operatively contacting the said oam disc, biasing means arranged for forcing the said follower lever towards the said cam disc, the said follower lever being articulated to the said joint so as to keep it coaxially with the said axle of the slay sword over part ofthe circumference of the said cam disc, and eccentrically to it over another part of the said circumference.

In or for a loom having an automatic weft suply motion, the combination comprising a batten having a slay beam and a lateral projection of said slay beam, guides arranged on said projection, a shuttle box slidably arranged on said guides and having several cells adapted to be alternatively brought to the level of the said slay beam by shifting the said shuttle box in the said guides, a cop changer box arranged on the level of the said slay beam outside the said shuttle box, a box tongue for each of the said cells, biasing means forcing said box tongue into its respective cell for applying a braking action on a shuttle entering said cell, a shaft pivoted on the said batten, a lever on the said shaft adapted aoeaaav to lock the inner end of the box tongue of the cell actually on the level of the said slay beam against the said tongue moving out of the way of the shuttle preparatory to its: running into said cell and to release said inner end of the box tongue preparatory to picking the shuttle out of said cell, and movable release means for the outer end of each of the saidbox tongues arranged on the said shuttle box for allowing the box tongue of the cell actually on the level of the slay beam to move i outof the way of the shuttle and to let the same pass into saidcop changed box, and locking means operatively 'connected to the weft supply motion of the loom and arranged on the said projection of the slay beam for locking said release means against allowing the said box tongue to move out of the way of the shuttle during normal operation of the loom and for unlocking said release meanspreparatory to a cop change by the weft supply motion of the loom.

In or for a loom having an automatic weft supply motion, the combination comprising a batten having a slay beam and a lateral projection of said slay beam, an inner and an outer guide arranged on said projection, a shuttle box slidably arranged in said guides and having several cells adapted to be alternatively brought to the level of the said slay beam by shifting the said shuttle box in the said guides, a cop changer box arranged on the level of the said slay beam outside the said shuttle box, a rail parallel and adjacent to the said outer guide and having an interruption on the level of the said slay beam, the said projection of the slay beam being recessed parallel to the said rail outside thereof, two-armed levers pivoted in alignment on the said shuttle box parallel to said rail, the outer arm of each said lever being adapted to rest on said rail and to drop into the interruption thereof, a box tongue pivoted to the inner arm of each of the said levers, a biasing means for each box tongue arranged for pressing the same into an associated cell ofv the saidshuttle box and to apply a braking action on a shuttle entering the cell actually on the level of the said slay beam, and a slide shiftably arranged in the recessed projection of the slay beam and operatively connected to the weft supply motion of the loom for freeing the interruption in said rail and allowing the outer arm of the twoarmed lever to drop into the said interruption preparatory to a cop changer operation of the weft supply motion of the loom so as to allow the box tongue of the cell actually on the level of the said slay beam to move out of the way of the incoming shuttle and to allow it topass into the said cop changer box, and for obturating the said interruption during normal operation of the loom so as to look the box tongue of the cell actually on the leve1 of the slay beam in a braking position for the incoming shuttle.

In a loom having an automatic weft supply motion and including a batten having a slay beam and a lateral projection on said slay beam, guides arranged on said projection, a shuttle box slidably arranged in said guides and having several cells adapted to be alternatively brought to the level of the said slay beam by shifting said shuttle box corresponding cell and an operative position projecting into the corresponding cell, and in said operative position adapted to brake a shuttle moving into said corresponding cell, release means for each of said braking means mounted on said shuttle box for permitting the braking means of the cell located on the level of the slay beam to be moved into inoperative position by a shuttle so that the same may pass into said cop changer box, and locking means operatively connected to the weft supply motion of the loom for locking said release means against release of said braking means for movement to said inoperative position during normal operation of the loom,
