UNITED STATES PATENT OEi-nicE.V
NELSON B. COOPER, OF LIBERTY, INDIANA.
VEHlCLE-SPRING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 268,193, dated November 28, .1882. Application filed June 22, 1832. (Model.)
To all lwhom it may concern Be it known that I, NELSON B. COOPER, of Liberty,in thecountyoi Union, and in the State of lndiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vehicle-Springs; and I do hereby ticolare thatJ the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part ot' this specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in vehicle-springs; and it has for its objects to provide a compound spring that will play more freely and uniformly than those in general use. These objects I attain by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure l represents a longitudinal and Fig. 2 a transverse section of my invention. i
The letter A indicates a bolster, to be attached to the axle of a vehicle, and B a transverse box or grooved beam, upon which the vehicle-body is to be supported. The bolster is hollowed out, as indicated, and on the inside is provided with vertical grooves C, located opposite each other, for the purpose hereinafter specified.
The letter D indicates two levers, recessed at E, and pivoted together by means of a ful- Crum-pin, F, which projects at each end, and is adapted to play vertically in the grooves C. The levers are shouldered at their extremities, the extremities setting respectively in the recesses in the bolster and the boxor beam supporting the carriage-seat.
The letter G indicates a series of spiral springs, which are located in the above inentioned recess. The shouldered ends of thelevers rest in the ends of these springs', as shown in Fig. 1 ofthe drawings. The levers are adapted to play in the recesses in the bolster and bodysupporting box or beam, as will be evident from the drawings, permitting the body to ride easily and freely.
Although l have described my invention as particularly applicable to vehicles, it is evident that it may be employed with equal advantage in all cases where such springs are usedtor instance, for buggy-seats, car-seats, and the like.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The combination, with the recessed bolster and body-supporting box or recessed bar, ot'
NELSON B. COOPER.
