4 Claims.
My invention relates to a toy pistol for ejecting water or other liquid from a nozzle. The water is ejected from the nozzle by means of a hand operated piston-type pump contained within the water storage cavity of the body of the pistol.
The invention has for its objects the simplicity of its component parts and the ease of registering one with the other and of assembling these parts into a device of the above character.
Another object is to provide a water channel which is integral with the body of the device to lead from the liquid ejection pressure source to the ejection point at the muzzle of the gun. The conduit leading to the pump and from the pump may include Venturi like channels from the pump cylinder to the integral channel.
The parts comprising the shell of the pistol are made in two longitudinal halves. There the parts nested within the body of the shell and the trigger are preferably made of molded plastic, though other materials and other methods may be used.
My invention will be understood from the following description taken in conjunction with the drawings. In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a view partly in section, taken on the line l-! of Fig. 5, with a complementary half or cover half removed to illustrate the parts more pump assembled in place and the channels through which the water is carried to the nozzle;
Fig. 2 is a view partly in section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a perspective outside view showing the assembled pistol;
Fig. 4 is a sectional of Fig. 1;
Fig. 5 is a view partly in section taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 6 is a view partly in section looking at the grip end of the pistol, illustrating the manner of locating the water cylinder in the hand gripping portion of the pistol;
Fig. 7 is a view illustrating the manner of guiding the finger actuated trigger;

Referring to the drawings which are provided with reference numbers indicating the component parts entering into the assembly of the device, the pistol, as illustrated in the drawings, is constructed in the form of a magazine containing pistol. This form isnot a limitation of my inview taken on the line 4-4 vention but is utilized as an illustration of the adaptability of my invention to various forms of water pistols. Other forms may be employed and are within the spirit of my invention. As shown, the pistol has a wide depending hollow hand grip 2 above which is provided a filling opening closed by a flexibly attached plug it for the purpose of closing the filler opening after the hollow body of the'pistol is filled with water or other fluid. The interior of the pistol thus forms a liquid storage container.
Integral with the hollow hand grip and as a continuing part thereof is a hollow chamber in the form of a pistol barrel having a closed channel 29 formed by the top wall 2| of the barrel and a lower Wall l9 adjacent to and parallel with it for the major portion of its length, thus forming a closed channel for the major length of the pistol. At the forward or discharge end this channel changes to a downward course with a short channel 20a formed by the vertical flange lilo and a short horizontal flange Nib to join the horizontal opening at the muzzle into which is inserted a nozzle 20 provided with a small bore to insure that the water leaving the pistol will issue therefrom in a fine stream when the pistol interior mechanism is operated to eject a stream of water by the user. At the rear end of the channel 29 a barrier wall 39 extends between the flanges l9 and 20 to close ofi the end of the channel 20.
Mounted within the hollow hand grip portion and secured therein is a horizontal cylindrical chamber 3 forming a pump cylinder which is closed at the rear end by a plug 4 which is cemented into the bore of the pump chamber.
Slidably mounted in the bore of the cylinder 3 is the piston head 5 faced with the packing disk 6 and the metallic washer 1. Between this disk and the end plug 4 is inserted the expansion spring 8. The piston head 5 is attached to a piston rod 9 which is guided in a boss 10 extending from the end opposite the plug 4 at the other end of the cylinder. The outer end of the piston rod 9 is formed with the trigger H and is guided against rotation by the upper T end H which is guided in the slot l2 on the under side of the barrel portion I.
The cylinder 3 is provided on its upper wall with the hollow cup-shaped boss is in which is nested the ball check 14 and this acts as the check for the port it located in the center of the boss l3 and which opens into the cylinder via port IS.
A tube it provided with a conical bore I! has the enlarged end I8 cemented to the cylinder boss I3 and the opposite end of the tube I6 cemented into the cylindrical hollow boss 21 on channel wall l9 of the channel 2!! with the hole I'I opening into the channel 20.
The cylinder 3 is also provided with the depending bored boss 22 opening into the body of the cylinder by means of the port 23. A tube 24 similar to the upper tube I 6 is cemented to the boss 22 providing a seat for the ball check 25.
This tube 24 extends downward to a point adjacent the bottom of the hollow shell-like hand grip portion 2 of the pistol which forms part of the liquid reservoir chamber of the piston. The tube has a conical bore with the smaller diameter adjacent the check valve 25.
The outer shell of the piston and the discharge water channels are formed into two complementary, left and right hand halves which, when assembled, form the hollow hand grip and its pistol barrel which contains the pump and the conduits I7 and 24, the valves I4 and 25, and the channel 20.
Thus the parts I and I each has a peripheral flange or shoulder 2| and 2| which outlines the formed pistol halves. Cast integrally with each half of the pistol shell is the flange I9 and I 9 respectively, each of which is spaced from and parallels the flange portion 2| and 2| which is at the top of the pistol shell. The peripheral flange 2| is notched with a peripheral notch to receive the complementary and mating peripheral flange 2|.
The flange I9 on the shell I has its complementary flange I 9' on the shell I and the flanges I 9a and I9b have their complementary flanges I9a and I9'b on the shell I. The flanges I9a and I9b are notched peripherally to receive the complementary and mating flanges I9'a and I 9b.
To provide for the slot I2 to receive the T-head of the trigger II the peripheral flanges 2| are elevated (see section 'I-'I, Figs. 1 and 7) and a depending channel I2a and I2'a is provided. The inturned legs I2b and I2'b of the channel walls are spaced to provide a slot for the travel of the finger and a channel for the reception of the T-head of the trigger.
Each of the hollow shell-like halves I and I carries a demi-boss a and ZIIa as the muzzle having plane meeting faces (see Fig. 2). The peripheral flanges 2| and 2| are also formed with semi-circular depressions which, when the flanges meet, form the port to I6 between the barrier wall to receive the boss I8 and the plug 26. The lower flanges I9 and I9 are formed with depending demi- bosses 27 and 21 carrying demi ports which on assembly form the boss and bore to receive the tube I'I.
Locating lugs are provided to position and receive the barrel. Thus lugs 3| and SI are positioned on the interior end wall of the handle at proper location to position the boss 4 which abuts these lugs. In like manner, lugs 28 and 29 are placed centrally on the interior of the side walls of the hollow handle to abut the opposite sides of the barrel 3 to locate the barrel.
The assembly of the pistol is very conveniently done by first setting the barrel with the boss 4 against the locating boss 3|, the tubes 24 and I! may be preassembled on the barrel with the ball checks in place. The tubes may be conveniently assembled on the bosses I3 and 22 by cementing them in position. The T-head of the trigger II and the muzzle 2| and is set in the channel I2 between the lugs I21: and I2a and the peripheral flanges 2| and 2|, and the barrel 3 is laid against the lug 28, thus also the boss I0 and the tube I6 fit into the mating demi ports. By placing cement on the contacting surfaces, the barrel, boss I0, and the tube I5, and the mating flanges and bosses may be cemented into position, when the complementary shell I is placed over the shell I so that the peripheral flange 2| flts into the receiving notch of the peripheral flange 2|. This locates the shell exactly so that the lugs 28 and 29 abut the barrel 3 and the demi ports surround the tube I6 and the boss I0 and the parts 20 and 20a mate and the flanges I9, I9a, and I 9b mate with the flanges I9, I9a and I9b, and the barrier flange 30 with the barrier flange 30 positioned in the same way between the flanges I9 and 2| of the port I, and the slot is completed to receive the sliding head of the trigger II.
It will be observed how this integral construction creates the discharge channel 20 which is thus closed at one end by the barrier wall formed of the walls 30 and 30 meeting and cemented together at their meeting edges thus forming a continuous closed channel 2|] with a downwardly directed connecting conduit where it meets the discharge nozzle. The entry of the fluid is through the conduit I1. It will be observed that this construction makes the discharge conduit in the form of an inverted U tube.
In operation the plug 26 in the filler opening is removed, the pistol is immersed in water or water is allowed to flow into the body of the pistol until the water has approximately filled the hollow body of the pistol surrounding the barrel and lying between the peripheral flanges 2| and 2| in the hollow handle and underneath the flanges I9 and I9 and the peripheral flanges 2| and 2| in the barrel. The plug 26 is replaced in the filler opening and the pistol is ready to use.
A finger pressure when applied to the finger grip or trigger I I causes the piston 5 to travel into the pump cylinder 3 to force the water by the valve I4 through the tube II, channel 20 and through the nozzle 20'. A release of the finger pressure on the trigger allows the piston to travel in the opposite direction, as it is caused to do by the action of the spring 8 on the piston head. This action closes the valve I4 and opens valve 25 and draws a limited quantity of water from the hollow body of the pistol up into the cylinder.
It will be observed that the Venturi structure 01' the suction tube 24 and the discharge tube I6 aids in lifting the ball check valves when the action as described above occurs.
While I have described a particular embodiment of my invention for the purpose of illustration, it should be understood that various modifications and adaptations thereof may be made within the spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A liquid ejecting device in the form of a pistol, comprising a pair of complementary hollow shell-like half portions, each half portion comprising a barrel half section and a hand grip half section, said half portions when cemented together providing a pistol form having a barrel with a discharge port at its muzzle and a hand grip, said half portions each having a mating shoulder section extending substantially about its periphery to facilitate a water tight union between said half portions when said half portions are cemented together to provide the pistol form, and half wall sections formed integrally with and extending longitudinally of said barrel half sections forming, when said half portions are cemented together, in cooperation with the top Wall of the barrel an interior channel having end openings.
2. A device as set forth in claim 1 wherein the mating shoulder section of one complementary hollow half portion is formed to overlap the mating shoulder section of the other complementary hollow half portion.
3. A device as set forth in claim 1, and further comprising a piston pump located inside the hand grip, means extending exteriorly of said hand grip for operating said pump, means connecting the outlet of said pump with the channel through one channel end opening, the channel communicating through the other end opening with the muzzle, and means placing the inlet of said pump in communication with the interior of the hand grip.
4. A device as set forth in claim 1, and further comprising a pump located inside the hand grip, and means extending exteriorly of the hand grip for operating said pump, one of the channel end openings communicating with the muzzle discharge port and the other of the channel end openings communicating with the pump outlet.
