Description

March 23, 1954 KRAUSS 2,672,862
BELT FOR THE RELIEF OF HEMORRHOIDS Filed Dec. 16, 1952 INVENTOR: D ON K RAU 55 ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 23, 1954 UNITED] STATES PATENT "OFFICE Application December 16, 1952, Serial N 0. 326,235
3 Claims. (01. 128-98) My invention relates to medicinal belts, and one of its objects is to protect hemorrhoids from pressure and friction and thereby to relieve the patient of pains and to avoid irritations which retard the cure of the hemorrhoids.
Other objects are to secure a spread position of the patients buttocks where the same are near the anus and tend to press on the hemorrhoids, and to secure appropriate spreading means on the body of the patient by a device which does not cause appreciable inconvenience and which does not interfere with his movability.
Further objects are to facilitate the washing of those parts of the belt which may come in contact with the anus or the buttocks, to adapt these parts for the attachment of a removable protective strip of linen or other suitable material, and thereby to keep the belt in clean and sanitary condition.
Still other objects are to attain these results witha belt that can be made inexpensively, that is durable and that is sufliciently strong to enforce the spreading of the buttocks.
Still other objects and advantages will-appear from the following description of an exemplifying embodiment of my invention, from the appended claims and from the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 shows a plan front view of the main part of an illustrative embodiment of my invention in spread and flattened position.
Fig. 2 shows a front view of a cushioning part to be affixed to the main part shown in Fig. 1 as will be described.
Fig. 3 shows a front view of the same embodiment in assembled condition and about in that position inwhich it is worn, the body of the wearer being omitted.
Fig. 4 shows a side view of the same embodiment in the same position as in Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 shows a cross-section of a modification of the part shown in Fig. 2, the front view of this modification being identical to Fig. 2, the crosssection Fig. 5 being taken along a central vertical line corresponding to the line 55 in Fig. 2.
Referring to Figs. 1 to 4, numeral l indicates a band adapted to be worn about the abdomen of a person. This abdominal band is preferably made of one broad strip or tape of which the ends overlap at the center of the bands rear side. These overlapping ends meet in obliquely and symmetrically crossing directions declining from both sides whereby the band has its lowest point at the center of "its rear side. In this position the overlapping ends are united, for example, in usual manner by stitches.
The circumferential width of the band I may be adjustable in any suitable manner. For example, narrow tapes or strips 2 may have ends 3 stitched to the band I near itsupper rim and may be arranged in pairs. The drawing shows two pairs of tapes 3, one at the left and one at the right side of the band I. Figs. 3 and 4 show the tapes 2 in free hanging condition. When, however, it is desired to tighten the band I, this may be done by binding each pair of tapes 2 into a loop or knot of a length shorter than the original distance of the ends 3 of the pair.
A strip 4 forms a downward extension of the rear of the band I and has an upper end secured by stitches between the overlapping ends of this band. In the position of use shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the strip 4 is positioned centrally between the buttocks of the wearer. The inter-buttock strip t is held in this position by the abdomen band I at one side and by two thigh bands at the other side. 7
Each of these thigh bands may comprise two parts 5 and 6 which have ends affixed to the lower end of the strip 4. In the position of use, the band parts 5 and 6 extend to the front, surround the upper parts of the wearer's thighs and are connected into rings fitting the thighs. For example, each band 5 is provided with eyelets I of snap-fasteners which in addition comprise snapbuttons 8 correspondingly afllxed to the co-ordinated band 6 at that side which is invisible in Fig. 1. The lengths of the band parts 5 and 6 are so dimensioned that the overlapping ends provided with the snap fasteners are positioned at the outer sides of the thighs where they can be conveniently buttoned and unbuttoned.
The bands l, 5 and 6 and the strip 4 are made of strong and stretchable material, preferably of knitted fabric, and are permanently united.
A resilient cushion is affixed to the inner side of the strip 4 which side faces the buttocks and the anus of the wearer. This cushion may comprise two separably connected parts or layers. An outer layer 9 is immediately aflixed to the strip 4. An inner layer II has a leather cover l2. The remaining part of the layer II and the layer 9 are preferably made of sponge rubber. The layers 9 and II are separably connected in any suitable manner, for example, by snap-fasteners I3.
The inner layer II has a relatively narrow, elongated bulge l4 extending in a vertical plane substantially centrally with respect to the cushion. and to the buttocks of the wearer. This bulge extends upward a little beyond the underlying parts of the cushion. The leather cover l2 extends still farther upward and is provided with two incisions or slots 15 which extend in horizontally crossing direction a little over the bulge l4. Thereby a strip I6 is formed which may be lifted as shown exaggeratedly in Fig. 4.
A protective strip I1 is drawn through the slots I and is held by the strip H3 in a position where the strip I! covers the inner or bodyfacing side of the bulge and of the adjacent parts of the cushion. The' strlpi i1 is Lpreierablyi made. of linen cloth'and-can'be easily withdrawn for being washed or replaced. In addition, the
cushion layer ll may be detached for cleaning:
by opening the snap fasteners? L3,.
The embodiment described may be modified by substituting a cushion I8 as shownv rin Figsfor the cushion formed by .themartsB H, l2v
and 14. The cushion i8 is one" piece made of sponge rubber and comprises a part ZHshaped like the combined layers z=9 and II, a part 22 shaped like. the upward ,-.extensionl.;of,. the, cover I2, ,a bulge 24,. shaped; like. the. bulge. t l 4 and a striplBcut outof the.part,22 byincisionssimilarr to the slots.l5.l
The .linen strip .11 maybe attached. to the, cushion 18 in the. same mannerias tocoyer l2.v

I desire it .understoodethat.1myi.;invention -is not confinedto the particular embodiment shown.
and described; the same being merelyiillustrative,
and that myv invention ,may betcarried; tout in t other ways within the scope of the appended,
claims. without departing, from theflspirit, of, my
invention as -,it is obvious; sthat; the, particular" embodiment shown and-described ionlyone roilthe. many that, may ,bei-employed to :attain the.
