Application March 26, 1952, Serial No. 278,578
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to humidifying devices of the type having forced circulation therethrough, and in particular a device adapted to be positioned in a cigar case and through which air is circulated over an absorptive element, the lower edge of which is positioned in water, by
heat created by an electric light bulb positioned .to a humidifying device whereby the upward travel of heated air passing therethrough draws cool air from the cigar case whereby a continuous circulation is provided and the air circulated over a wick or other saturated element carries moisture to all parts of the case.
The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide means for forming a humidifier having a heating element in combination with a saturated balile therein whereby the heating element creates circulation through the device continuously so that the device is adapted for use in a cigar case.
Another object of the invention is to provide a humidifier for cigar cases and the like in which water is contained in the lower part and in which the water may be replenished without removing the humidifier from the case.
A further object of the invention is to provide a continuous circulating humidifier for cigar cases and the like which is of a simple and economical construction.
With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention embodies a case having a lower section and an upper section with the upper section removably mounted on the lower section and in which the sections are provided with louvers to permit circulation of air therethrough, and also in which the lower section is provided with a saturated baffle positioned in the path of air circulated through the device and the upper section is provided with an electric light bulb to provide a heating element for accelerating the circulation of air through the device.
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connectionwith the drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the humidifier.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the humidifier.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal section through the humidifier taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Figure 4 is a cross section through the humidifier taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts the improved cigar case humidifier of this invention includes a casing having a base it, a cover H, a continuous baffle I2 formed of .an absorptive material and a light bulb 13 mounted in a socket I4 which is secured to the cover II with a bafile l5, which extends around the light bulb l3.
In the design shown the base [0 is substantially rectangular shaped and a band l6 extended around the inner surface of the upper edge provides a flange by which the cover II is frictionally mounted on the base. An end wall I! of the base is provided with a louver I8, the opposite end wall IQ of the base is provided with a filling opening 20 and side walls 2| and 22 of the base are provided with louvers 23 and 24, respectively.
The cover I l which is shaped to correspond with the form of the base is provided with a raised section 25 on the upper panel 26 and the section 25 is provided with louvers 21.
The bafile or body member 15 is secured to the under surface of the panel 26 by a flange or lip 28 which is secured to the panel 26 by welding or other suitable means. The panel 26 is also provided with an opening 29 in which a ferrule 3|] is positioned and a light cord 3| having a plug 32 on the extended end thereof extends through this ferrule with wires 33 extended from the ferrule and connected to the socket I4.
The socket I4 is provided with a spring clip 34 by which the socket and light bulb are frictionally retained on the bafiie l5. The base of the socket I4 is secured to the spring clip 34 with bolts 35.
With the parts arranged in this manner the porous baflle I2 is positioned in the base M as illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4 and with water, as indicated by the numeral 36, positioned in the base the water is absorbed by the banie and carried upwardly whereby air entering the casing through the louvers I8, 23 and 24 passes upwardly over the outer surface of the baflle and downwardly over the inner surface whereby the air picks up moisture from the bafiie and passes outwardly through the louvers 21.
The air heated by the light I3 rapidly absorbs moisture and as the air is heated it passes upwardly rapidly through the louvers 21 so that cooler air is drawn in continuously through the louvers l 8, 23 and 24. By this means rapid circulation is provided wherein substantially all air in a cigar case is subjected to moisture.
It will be understood that modifications may be made in the design and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is:
In a humidifier, a casing including a rectangular base adapted to hold a quantity of water, said base including spaced, parallel vertically disposed end walls, and spaced, parallel vertically disposed side walls, a band extending around the inner surface of said base and extending above the upper edge thereof, a cover arranged above said base and including spaced parallel vertically disposed end walls and spaced parallel side walls, the lower edge of said cover abutting the upper edge of said base and engaging a portion of said band, a continuous vertically disposed baflie fabricated of water absorbent material extending upwardly from the bottom of said base and spaced inwardly from the side and end walls of said base, the top of said baflie extending above the top of said band, an end wall of said base being provided with a louver having an opening in its lower end for the ingress therethrough of air, the opposite end wall of said base being provided with a louver having an opening in its upper end for filling the base with water, the side walls of said base being provided with louvers having openings in their lower ends for the ingress therethrough of air, said cover being provided with a raised section in the top thereof, a plurality of spaced parallel louvers arranged in said raised section, a body member including spaced parallel end sections and spaced parallel side sections positioned in said casing and said body member including transverse lips secured to said cover, there being an opening in the top of said cover, a ferrule positioned in said opening, an electric cord extending through said ferrule and adapted to be connected to a source of supply of current, a socket positioned in said casing and connected to said cord, a light bulb positioned within said body member and mounted in said socket, said body member being of less size than said baiiie, the lower edge of said body member extending down below the top of said baflie, and a spring clip secured to said socket and frictionally engaging said body member.
