Description

MANNEQUIN FOR WEARING APPAREL Filed Dec. 3, 1951 FIG. 4
FBVG. a
JNVENTOR. ROY T. RE I D ATORNEY Patented Jan. 5, 1954 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE MANNEQUIN FOR WEARING APPAREL Roy T. Reid, Miami, Fla.
Application December 3, 1951, Serial No. 259,635
2 Claims. (Cl. 223-68) This invention relates to a mannequin for wearing apparel and, more particularly, for a clothessupporting frame having reflector means to re ister the facial image of an observer facing the mannequin whereby the illusion is promoted that the observer is clad in the apparel displayed on the mannequin.
I am aware that attempts have heretofore been made to provide display apparatus of the class hereinabove described.
Such prior devices have usually been limited to the portrayal of a drawing, picture or like representation of the apparel without employing the actual items of wear to be displayed. Others have utilized a mirror for the face or body portions of the observer, but these have generally omitted to provide an actual frame for the natural arrangement of the apparel displayed and others have failed to conceive the disposition of the mirror portion and the apparel carrying portion of the mannequin in as nearly a common plane as possible whereby to heighten the illusion sought to be created.
It is an object of the invention to provide a display device for the support of wearing apparel and a facial image reflector thereabove, which will be simple in construction and efficient in use.
Another object is to provide apparatus of the class described which may be readily and economically manufactured.
A further object is to provide a mannequin having reflecting properties in the facial and neck portions thereof which may be readily and conveniently draped in the apparel to be displayed.
Other advantages of the invention will be discernible from the detailed description thereof hereinafter set forth.
The invention is embodied in the mannequins exemplified in the accompanying drawing wherein like reference numerals designate identical parts throughout the several views:
Fig. 1, a front elevation, in part, of a form of the invention, and.
Fig. 2, a side elevation thereof;
Fig. 3, a front elevation, in part, of another form of the invention, and
Fig. 4, a section on line IV-IV, Fig. 3.
As illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, the mannequin has a main clothes-supporting frame including a head portion, I, and draped about this frame is the apparel 2, to be displayed.
In this form of the invention, the frame may consist of an integral, fiat glass body, the outlines of which simulate the outlines of the human figure, the shoulders thus forming the later supports for carrying the apparel. The frontal face of this frame may be exposed to view as needed to permit the observer to see his or her facial and/or neck image reflected back therefrom, it being understood, of course, that the 2 back face of the frame I will have been treated with a reflecting substance of suitable characteristics. This frame may be provided with any suitable base support needed (not shown) to hold the same in an upright position, any one of such expedients being well known in the art.
Figs. 3 and 4 exemplify an oval mirror 3, which may be carried by a supporting frame 4 having the peripheral outlines of the human figure. The face portion or mirror 3 may be adjustably secured to an upper extension of the frame 4, by a threaded clamp member 5 which is tightenable to fix the mirror in any desired tilted position. The frame in this case would carry the apparel and the face portion 3 reflect back the face of the observer to create the illusion that he or she is clad in the apparel on display.
By the foregoing construction, a display mannequin is provided which may be quickly and conveniently draped with the apparel, and the reflected image will form substantially close to the clothing displayed to promote the desired illusion.
Having thus described the invention and the mode of its practice what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A mannequin for the display of wearing apparel comprising a frame simulating the outline of the human figure, including the upper portion of the body, neck portion and head portion, said body portion being adapted to carry said apparel and said head portion including a mirror on the frontal face thereof to reflect the head portion of an observer facing said mannequin whereby to promote the illusion that said observer is clad in said apparel, said body portion and said mirror being disposed in substantially a common verticalplane.
2. A mannequin for the display of wearing apparel comprising a frame simulating in outline the neck, shoulder and body portions of the human figure, said frame being adapted to carry said apparel, a mirror forming the head portion carried by said frame at the top thereof to reflect the facial image of an observer facing said mannequin whereby to promote the illusion that the observer is clad in said apparel, said body portion and said mirror being disposed in substantially a common vertical plane.
ROY T. REID.
