This invention relates to a nozzle support switch operator for liquid dispensers.
It is an object of the invention to provide means for supporting a hose nozzle when the dispensing switch is open to deenergize the dispensing motor.
Another object of the invention is toprovide means for removing the nozzle support from supporting position when the switch is closed to start the dispensing motor.
Yet another object is to provide a nozzle supporting mechanism which is simple and inexpensive, yet one which is effective.
It is still another object of the invention to provide a combined nozzle boot and nozzle support mechanism. 7
These and other objects will become apparent from a study of this specification and the drawings which are attached hereto and are made a part hereof and in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the mechanism with parts broken away to show the switch mechanism.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the mechanism with parts broken away to show switch and nozzle supporting mechanism.
Figure 3 is a sectional view of the switch Operator taken substantially on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a sectional view of the nozzle supporting structure taken substantially on line 4-4 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is an elevation of the nozzle boot and support viewed from the right of Figure 1.
Referring particularly to Figures 1 and 2, the numeral indicates an electric motor which is utilized to drive a dispensing pump such as is described in our application, Serial No. 86,566, filed April 9, 1949, for Liquid Dispenser.
The motor is provided with a built-in switch 3 which is operated by a rotary shaft 5. An operating lever l is fixed to the upper end of the shaft and is provided with an open ended notch 9.
A switch housing or cover II is suitably attached as by screws l3 to the end bell of the motor. A nozzle boot I5 is attached to one side of this housing as by screws IT. The boot is disposed at such an angle that the nozzle spout 51. will not be retained therein if it is merely inserted therein;
To retain the nozzle therein, aligned openings 2!, 23, 25 and a blind hole 21 are formed in the housing and boot, and an endwise slidable rod 29 is mounted freely therein.

other end of the rod is provided with an operating knob 33 which has a downwardly directed locking ear 35. The latter is perforated at 31.
An ear 39 extends outwardly from the cover parallel to ear 35 and is perforated at 4| so that when the rod is in the full line position, Figure 2, a padlock can be passed through the aligned holes 3? and 4| to hold the switch in the OE osition. 7
A strip 23 is fixed to the exterior of the cover H by a screw 45 and bears laterally against the motor end bell to assist in holding the cover in place.
A switch operator finger 41 has a hub 49 at one end which receives the rod 29 and is fixed in place thereon by pin 5|. It overlies the switch lever l and has a depending pin 53 which enters the slot 9. Thus, as the rod 29 is moved axially, the pin 53 will rotate switch lever l to or from the switch off position shown. in Figure 2. The diameter of the pin, above lever is larger than the width of slot 51 so that rotation of the rod is limited in one direction by lever l and by the cover I i in the other direction.
The nozzle 55 has a spout 51 which is adapted to enter the boot I5. The-upper portion of the nozzle has a hook 99.01 in some cases an eye, formed thereon. When the spout is pushed fully into the boot, the hookfor eye is positioned to receive the end of rod 29-.

This operation moves arm 41 downwardly, Figure 2; and rotates lever I counterclockwise to close the switch and start the motor I. When dispensing has been completed, the nozzle spout is returned to the boot and knob 33 is returned to the full line position (Figure 2) so'that the rod 29 will reenter the hook 59 and the blind hole 21, as shown in Figure 5. The conical end of the rod facilitates this reentry. The switch lever "I will return to the off position and stop themotor I.

It is obvious that various changes may be made in the form, structure and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention. Accordingly, applicants do not desire to be limited to the specific embodiment disclosed herein primarily "for purposes or amnation; blit instead they desire protection falling fairly With-'- in the scope of the appended claims.
What we claim to be new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. In a dispensing apparatus cainfpnsing an electric motor, a switch therefor having on 01f positions and a dispensing iio'z'zle, the
bination of a housing for the switch, a nozzle boot fixed to the housing, a rod mounted for reciprocation in said housing and into and out of said boot and means on said nozzle positidiied to be engaged by said rod when the nozzle is in I the boot. 7

In a dispensing apparatus comprising an electric motor, a switch therefor having on and on positions and a dispensing nozzle, the combination of -a -ho us-ing for the switch, a nozzle boot fixed to the housing, a rod mounted for reciprocation in said housing'and into and out of said boot and means forming an opening in the nozzle positioned to be entered by the rod when the nozzle is in the boot, the end or said rod being tapered to facilitate the entry thereof in the opening.
3. In a dispensing apparatus comprising an electric motor, a switch therefor having on and ofi positions and a dispensing nozzle, the 'coiiri bination of a housing for the switch, a nozzle boot fixed to the housing, a rod mounted for reciprocation in said housing and into and out of said boot, means on said nozzle positioned to be engaged by said rod when the nozzle is in the boot and means on 'the rod for operating the switch.

In a dispensing apparatiis comprising an electric motor, a switch therefor having on and off positions and a dispensing nozzle, the coinbination of a housing-xiii the switch, ahdzzle boot fixed to the housihg, a rod mounted for reciprocation in said adamant into and out 'of said boot, means on said nozzle positioned to engaged by said rod when the nozzle is in the boot, a switch operating lever, a finger on the rod, a pin connecting the finger with the switch lever.

In a dispensing apparatus comprising "an electric motor, a switch mounted thereon having on and off positions, and a dispensing nozzle, the combination of a housing for the switch, mounted on the motor, a nozzle boot fixed to the housing, a member mounted in the hohsifig'for movement into and but of said boot; means on said member adapted to engage the nozzle and hold it in the boot and oh the member in said housing, connected to operate said switch.

8, In a dispensing apparatus comprising an electric motor, a switch for controlling the 0peration 'of said frfrotor, a dispensing nozzle, a nozzle boot for housing said nozzle when the same is riot in use, the combination of nozz locking means opera'tively associated with said boot for holding said nozzle in the boot, said locking means being mounted on said apparatus and arranged for movement to and from a looking position while the same is retained on said apparatus, and means operatively connected to Said locking means for -operatitim or said switch upon actuation or said nozzle for locking means.
