'7 Claims.
ing the operation of the mechanism for resetting 10 the dial indicator while the fluid is being dispensed, such means consisting of a stop member placed in the path of movement of an obstruction on the reset device.
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the arrangement of the reset member within the "clock portion of the dispensing device.
Figure 2 is an elevational view of a portion of a dispensing apparatus illustrating the application of the present invention thereto.
20 In the form of the device herein illustrated the register portion of the fluid dispensing device'is mounted within a drum I from which the dial has been removed.
Within this drum is arranged the recording mechanism 2 which is connected by a spindle 2' with a suitable meter A.
The horizontal spindle 3 to which the indicating hands are connected has mounted thereon a beveled clutch pinion 4.
A spindle 5 slidably mounted in the wall of the casing l and suitably supported adjacent to its inner end by a bracket -6 is provided with a beveied clutch pinion 1 adapted to mesh with the pinion 4.
A coil spring 8 encircles the spindle 5 and tends to hold the clutch pinions 4 and I out of mesh.
The operator of the pump by pressing the spindle inwardly by pushing against the reset knob 9 on the outer end thereof, moves the pinions into mesh and upon'turning the knob may reset the indicating hands of the register.
It has been found in practice that the opera-'' tion of the indicating register hands can be interfered with during their operation, by pressing inwardly on the reset device, and in order to obviate this condition a collar I0 is mounted on the spindle and this collar is engaged by an arm H pivotally mounted inside the casing and i when the arm ii is in engagement with the collar the reset spindle cannot be pushed in.
The arm H is formed with a laterally turned lug l2 and a rod l3 provided with a right angle bent end I4 is pivoted in said lug. This rod extends downwardly and is pivotally connected at its lower end to the arm l5 of the hose hook Hi.
It will be understood that as the hook on which the hose H is hung controls the motor switch B by means of a rod II it wil1 be impossible for any manipulation of the hose hook to effect the 5 release of the reset spindle without stopping the operation of the pump.
When the hose is hung on the hook the rod I3 is pulled downwardly to swing the member ll clear of the stop collar ID, consequently the 10 operator can reset the indicating fingers in the usual manner, but when the dispensing hose is removed from the hook l6 and the hook is raised to close the switch B and start the motor C which drives the pump D, the arm H swings downwardly into the path of movement of the collar and the action of the indicating fingers cannot be interrupted while the hose is off the hook or unless the hook is pressed downwardly and if an attempt is made to depress the hook to release 2 the lock without having the dispensing hose on the hook the operation of the pump is arrested since the switch, by reason of its connection through rod H with the hook, will be opened. Thus it will be evident that the fluid cannot be dispensed without proper actuation of the recording and indicating means.
The device also functions to prevent the operation of the pump if the reset device is held in mesh as the collar l0 holds the arm II in the raised position and through the rod l3 holds the hook down.
The device is extremely simple but performs a very important function in automatically preventing interference with the recording device 3 when the dispensing device is in operation.
What I claim as myinvention is:-
1. In a fluid dispensing device, the combination with an indicating mechanism having a resetting spindle, and a displaceable dispensing hose hook, of an obstructing member secured on the resetting spindle, a rod operatively connected with the hose hook, and means mounted within the dispensing structure and moved by said rod into the path of movement of the obstructing member on the reset spindle when the hose hook is raised.
2. In a fluid dispensing device, the combination with an indicating mechanism having a resetting spindle, and a displaceable dispensing hose hook, of an obstructing member secured on the resetting spindle, an arm pivotally mounted intermediate of its length one end of which is movable into and out of the path of movement of said obstructing member, and a rod pivotally connected to the other end of said arm and extending downwardly and pivotally connected to the hose hook and controlling the movement of said obstructing member in accordance with the displacement of said hose hook. I
3. In a fluid dispensing device, the combination with a. dispensing means .having an indicating means, of means including aslidably mounted reset spindle movable on its mounting to actuate said indicating means, and means under the control of said dispensing means for obstructing sliding movement of said spindle.
4. In a fluid dispensing device, the combination of a dispensing means having an indicating means, a pinion for rotating said indicating means, a pinion engageable and disengageable with the aforesaid pinion, and adapted when meshed therewith to rotate the same to reset said indicating means, and means operated in accordance with operation of said dispensing means for pre- I venting meshing of said pinions during the dispensing operation.
5. Liquid dispensing apparatus having in combination, liquid elevating means, a meter and liquid delivery means, indicating means operatively connected with said meter, means operable to reset said indicating means, an operative connection between the indicating means and the reset means comprising clutch means, a movable support for the liquid delivery means, and clutch controlling means controlled by the movement of said support.
6. Liquid dispensing apparatus having in combination, liquid elevating means, a meter and liquid delivery means, indicating means operatively connected with the meter, a displaceable reset member for said indicating means, an operative connection between the indicating means and the displaceable reset member comprising disengageable clutch means engageable and disengageable by displacement of said reset member, a movable support for the liquid delivery means, and means co-operating with said movable support to control the displacement of said reset member.
7; Liquid dispensing apparatus having in combination liquid elevating means, a meter and liquid delivery means, indicating means operatively connected with the meter, a rotatably mounted reset spindle, disengageable clutch means connected respectively with said indicating means and said reset spindle, a movable support for the liquid delivery means, spring means applying a clutch-disengaging force to one of said clutch members, and means controlled by the movement of said support for preventing movement of the spring-held clutch member into clutch relation with the other clutch member when said support is-in a predetermined position.
