15 Claims.
This invention relates to apparatus for mounting bobby pins upon cards for distribution and sale. During recent years it has been common practice for hairpin manufacturers to provide blanks of cardboard with apertures to receive bobby pins which were mounted in assembled relation upon the cards by hand. It is an object of the present invention to materially reduce cost of packaging bobby pins on cards by providing a machine adapted to accomplish this operation.
Patent No. 2,285,433 granted June 9, 1942, to Walter H. Hermsdori discloses a device for threading hairpins or the like upon cards, and more particularly discloses a device adapted for use in bending a blank of cardboard adjacent the apertures therein to facilitate the mounting of bobby pins upon a card. The present invention contemplates the provision of a machine in which the bobby pins are adapted to be trans ferred directly from an oven wire onto apertured cards. The term oven wire refers to a rod upon which the bobby pins are mounted during manufacturing operations, such as heat treatment, japanning, varnishing, drying, etc, prior to removal for packaging and distribution to the public. As each oven wire is adapted to support approximately 79 or 80 bobby pins in spaced parallel relation, the present machine contemplates the provision of means for threading the pins from an oven wire onto three or more individual apertured cards.
This invention further contemplates the provision of a machine embodying means for dividing the bobby pins upon the oven wire into groups of predetermined number; after which, the groups of bobby pins are transferred from the oven wire onto their respective cards by threading one leg of each bobby pin through its respective aperture provided in the card.
This invention further contemplates the provision. of improved means for delivering a group of cards from their respective hoppers into load ing position adjacent the group or" bobby pins mounted upon an oven wire, and means for bending the cards adjacent their apertures to facilitate insertion of the legs of the bobby pins therethrough during transfer of the bobby pins from the oven wire to the card.
This invention further contemplates the provision of means for stripping the oven wire from the bobby pins after the latter have been threaded onto the merchandising cards.
This invention embodies other novel features, details of construction and arrangement of parts which are hereinafter set forth in the specification and claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Referring now to the drawings for a better understanding of this invention, and more particularly to Figs. 10, 11 and 12 therein, merchandieing cards 4 formed of cardboard. or other flexible material, are provided with slits at 5 to receive groups of bobby pins '5. As illustrated in Figs. 11 and 12, one leg 8 of each bobby pin is threaded through a slit 5 with the crimped leg El disposed along the front side of the card. The
slits 6 are preferably formed u-shape to provide a tab portion 5 l to engage the loop end 12 of the bobby pins and hold same against outward displacement from the cards.
The machine for threading the bobby pins l onto the cards 4 is shown as comprising a plugrality of hoppers l3 supported upon the frame it of the machine and adapted to receive stacks 'isplay 4. Each hopper i3 is of well land. i construction, embodying a vertically inovable platform 65 adapted to support the stack of cards and to move upwardly responsive to ronational movement of a shaft if journaied in the frame i and actuated by a crank it. The shaft ll is provided with a pair of sprocket gears lit-iii keyed thereto for engagement with their respective sprocket chains 2i-2|, one end of said chains being secured to the supporting plates it and the other end of the chains being fastened to counterweights 22-22. The crank it is adapted to be engaged and rotated by any suitable mechanism (not shown) to maintain the upper cards in the hoppers at a predetermined level during the operation of the machine.
Card transfer mechanism A card transfer mechanism for transferring cards 4 from their respective hoppers 13 to a loading position within the machine is shown as comprising a card transfer frame 23 which is keyed at its lower end to a shaft 24. An air conduit 28 is supported at the upper end of the frame 23 to receive a plurality of sucker fingers 2? provided at their ends with the usual flexible rubber nozzles 23. A flexible air conduit 29 leads from the air conduit 26 to a valve 3| supported upon the side of the frame 14.
The shaft 24 is journaled at its ends in bearing apertures formed at the outer ends of a pair of arms 32 which have their inner ends keyed to a shaft 33 journaled on the frame [4. A cam actuating arm 34 is keyed at its inner end to the shaft 33 and carries a roller 36 at its outer end for engagement by a cam 31 keyed to a shaft 33. The shaft 38 is journaled at its ends in suitable bearings provided in the machine frame 14 and is rotated in a clockwise direction, as illustrated in Figs. 2, 3 and 4 by means of a pulley 39 and drive belts 4i leading to the pulley of an electric motor or other suitable source of power is. As illustrated in Figs. 2, 3 and 4 of the draw ings, rotational movement of the cam 3'! acts through the arm 34, shaft 33, arm 32 and shaft 24 to alternately raise and lower the card transfer frame 23 to bring the sucker fingers 21 into and out of engagement with the cards 4 in the hoppers I3.
An actuating arm 42 is keyed at its inner end to the shaft 24 and provided at its outer end with a roller 43 for engagement against a cam 44 keyed to the shaft 38. During rotational movement of the shaft 38, the cam 44 acts through the arm. and shaft 24 to pivot the card transfer frame 23 between its card pick-up position and its card delivering position. The roller 43 is held in engagement with the cam 44 by means of a tension spring 45 having its one end connected with the frame I4 and its other end con-' nected to the free end of the arm 42.
Bobby pin grouping mechanism As illustrated in Figs. 2, 7, 8 and 9 in the drawings, bobby pins 7 are mounted in spaced parallel alignment along an oven wire 41 having its ends offset laterally in spaced parallel relation at 48- 48 and thence bent outwardly at 4349. The oven wire 41, with the hobby pins I mounted thereon, is mounted upon a bobby pin grouping mechanism indicated generally at B. The grouping mechanism 50 comprises a pair of side members 5l-5l mounted for reciprocatory movement in bearings 52 bolted to the frame I4. Each side member 5| is provided with a roller 53 for 4 engagement with a cam 54 keyed to the shaft 38. Each roller 53 is held in engagement with its respective cam 54 by means of a flexible cable 55 having its one end connected to its side memher 5! and its other end connected to one end of a tension spring 51 secured to the machine frame I4. A fork supporting bar 58 is journaled at its ends in the end members 5| and has a worm gear 59 keyed thereon for engagement by a worm 6!. The worm Si is journaled in bearings 62-62 provided on one of the end arms 5! and is manually rotated by means of the handle 63.
A pair of fork members 64 and 65 are secured in spaced parallel relation on the fork supporting bar 58, the outer free ends of the fork members being formed with similar wedge-shape teeth 6'! which serve to move the bobby pins 7 into groups of predetermined number along the oven wire 41. The oven wire 41, with the bobby pins mounted thereon, is manually positioned upon the ends of the fork members 64 and 63, as illustrated in Fig. 2 in the drawings, when the fork supporting bar 53 is in its raised position.-
The oven wire 4'1 is held against outward displacement from the ends of the fork members 64 and 66 by means of a pair of flat resilient spring members 68-68 having their one ends secured to the fork supporting bar 53 and their free ends formed with offset portions 69.
As illustrated in Figs. 8 and 9, a pair of oven wire retainer strips 'II'H formed of flat resilient metal with their outer end portions projecting downwardly are secured at their outer ends to the frame l4 and have their inner ends inclined upwardly and outwardly at 12. A pair of actuating arms 13-43 are secured to the fork supporting bar 58 to prevent cocking move-ment of the oven wire when the latter engages the inclined portions l2'i2 of their respective strips 'H'H in order to move the strips 'H-'l! away from each other during inward movement of the bobby pin grouping mechanism When the grouping mechanism 59 reaches the inner end of its stroke, the oven wire 41 is engaged against plates 14T4 provided on the machine frame l4. Prior to upward return movement of the grouping mechanism 5? the retainer strips H- 'il move inwardly toward each other and hold the oven wire 4'! in fixed position against the plates 14-14.
Front card holder mechanism The machine is provided with a front card.

a rear card holder mechanism, generally indicated at IT. The front card holder mechanism 16 comprises a pair of arms l8l3 journaled at their inner ends upon a tubular member '19 enclosing the shaft 38, the outer ends of the an s 1'8'|8 being connected to each other by means of a cross frame 8|. A clamping plate holder 82 is keyed to a cross shaft 33 which has its ends journaled in the cross frame 8!. A cam arm 84 is keyed to one end of the shaft 83 for engagement against a pin 86 projecting outwardly from one side of the machine frame l4 when the front card holder mechanism is in its loading position, as illustrated in Fig. 2 in the drawings. A card clamping plate 81 and a flat resilient spring member 88 are secured at their one ends to the plate holder 82 by means of suitable screw and normally rest in line engagement with each other when the front card holder mechanism is moved away from its card loading position.
When the front and rear card holder mechanisms I6 and 17 are in their loading positions, illustrated in Fig. 2, the free end of the resilient spring member as is engaged under the card receiving plate is provided on the rear card holder mechanism 77, and the pin 86 acts against the cam arm Hi to rotate the plate holder 82 and thus move the clamping plate ti away from the spring member 88 and to define therewith an inwardly converging recess to receive a card 4. A tension spring SI is connected at its one end to the cross frame SI and at its other end to a pin 92 mounted on the plate holder 82. The spring @I normally acts to rotate the plate holder 82 to maintain the plate er in line engagement against the spring member d8 which, in turn, is held against a block of resilient rubber 9G mounted on the cross frame 8|.
Rear card holder mechanism The rear card holder mechanism If is shown as comprising a pair of side arms 96-95 jour naled at their inner ends for pivotal movement about the shaft 19 and having their outer ends connected by a transverse member 9'! which supports the plate 89.
A card clamping frame, generally indicated at Edi, is mounted for reciprocatory movement on the rear card holder mechanism H for movement into and out of card clamping engagement bar I 12 in card clamping engagement against the plate 539. A bobby pin guiding plate I08 formed with a plurality of guide slots I99 to receive groups of bobby pins, is supported upon the card clamping frame idi by means of resilient strip members iii. Several resilient spring guide members iii: are also supported upon the card clamping frame I iii to serve in guiding the cards t into loading position upon the plate 89.
Actuating means for front and rear card holder mechanisms A pair of cams HE-IIE are keyed in spaced relation to the drive tube 79 adjacent the arms 96-96 of the rear card holder mechanism. The outer surface of each cam 5-! I6 is slotted at Ml to receive a roller I Hi during counterclockwise rotation of the cams. The rollers Hit-I it are journaled on pins provided on plungers its iilt, as illustrated in Fig. 8. The cams iId-lI8 are also provided with push plates i la -I IQ for engagement against pins I2i- I2I provided on the arms I'd-13 of the front card holder mechanism. Return push plates l22--I22 are also mounted on. the cams IIE--I I6 for engagement with the abutment pins I 2I--I2I provided on the arms HE-18.
The rear card holder mechanism is pivotally movable between front stop members I23 -I23 and rear stop members I24-IZ4 provided on the frame it. Adjustable push lugs I26-I26 are provided on the plate supporting frame BI of the front card holder mechanism for engagement by the arms did-496 of the rear card holder mechanism.

A pair 7101' cables IZ'L-IZI are connected at their one ends to the arms BIL-d5 of the rear card holder mechanism and are connected at their other ends to tension springs I28-!2i secured to the frame I4. Idler pulleys i29i29 are journaled on the frame Hi to receive and uide the cables I 21-I2'I.
A pair of cables I3I-I3I are connected at their one ends to the arms 18'I8 of the front card holder mechanism and are connected at their other ends to counterweights I32I32 movable along guide plates I33-I33. Idler pulleys la h-I34 are journaled on the arms 96-46 of the rear card holder mechanism to guide the cables I3I-I3I.
A gear I 38 is keyed to the drive tube is for meshing engagement with a gear segment in journaled on a stud shaft I38 provided on the frame I 4. A cam roller I39 is journaled on the gear segment 13'! for movement along a cam track I4! formed in a box cam M2 keyed to the shaft 38. A brake shoe I43 is mounted for pivotal movement on a pin I44 provided on the machine frame It. and is normally held in frictional braking engagement with the periphery of the box cam I42 by means of a compression spring M6.
A cross bar I5! is supported at its ends in brackets I52 provided on the machine frame is. A plurality of abutment fingers I53 are pivotally connected at their inner ends upon a rod 954 which is supported upon the cross bar 59. The free ends of the abutment fingers ids are formed with abutment shoulders I55 for engagement against the loop ends I2 of the bobby pins '2, as illustrated in Fig. 7. Each abutment finger !53 is provided with an arm I57 for engagement by a compression spring 58 mounted upon a stud I59 provided on the cross bar WI. The compression springs I58 serve to yieldably resist upward movement of the abutment fingers I 53.
An aluminum plate I BI is supported on one side of the cross bar IE! to coact with a permanent magnet I 62 secured on the end of an arm I 63, the inner end of the arm E63 being secured to a shaft I64 journaled in brackets EGG-I65 provided on the cross bar I5I. An operating handle I 61 is secured on one end of the shaft I64 to move the permanent magnet Ida out of engagement with the aluminum plate ii. The permanent magnet IE2 is held in engagement with the aluminum plate 15! by means of an arm Hi8 secured to the shaft I M and engaged by a tension spring I69 secured to the frame id.
An actuating arm I'II is keyed to the shaft 83 of the front card holder mechanism it for engagement by a cam segment I12, when the front card holder i5 approaches its forward position, to cause the plate 8? to move outwardly relative to the spring member 88.
Operation is provided on the bearing flange 62 to limit the downward movement of the fork members E i and 8-6.

The frame 23 is movable back and forth between the hoppers i3 and the front and rear card holders and ll by means of the M- which acts through the arm and shaft 2% to pivot the frame 23. When the sucker fingers 2? are moved into engagement with the cards 5, in the hoppers it, a vacuum condition is created within the sucker fingers and conduits leading thereto by means of a cam it": keyed to the shaft 58 to operate the plunger ill; of the valve 31. The valve 5i is connected to a suitable vacuum tank by means of a conduit H9. When the cards i are moved to their forward position by means of the card transfer mechanism, the vacuum to the sucker fingers 2? is broken by the action or the cam ill to permit the cards t to fall downwardly by gravity onto the front and rear card holder mechanisms l6 and 1? After the cards 5 are mounted upon the front and rear card holders l6 and "5?, the notches H'll!l on the cams il8ii are moved into registry with the rollers l i8i l8 provided on the plunger-s 563 I83. Movement of the rollers till-l8 out of their respective notches ill! I! is yicldably resisted by means of the compression springs 56-lil8 interposed between the upper portions of the arms t6-4l5 and the plungers i03ii3, as illustrated in Fig. 3.
When the rollers iii-4 l8 move into their respective notches H'l-l ii, the plungers tilt-433 act to draw the cross bar I32 inwardly into clamping engagement against the plate 39 mounted upon the transverse member 9? which extends between and is connected to the outer ends of the arms 969@.
When the rollers li8-H3 drop into the re cesses til-41'. during counterclockwise rotation of the cams l l%l It, as illustrated in Figs. 2 and l, the cams lid-l it then act to move the rear card holder mechanism ll toward the front card holder mechanism l6, causing the cards 4 to buckle intermediate their ends and adjacent the slits 5 to facilitate insertion of the lower legs of the bobby pins through the slits. After the rear card holder has travelled a sufficient distance to buckle the cards 4, the stop pins 425-425 on the arms 98-426 engage against the adjustable screws 125-426 provided on the front card holder to push the latter in a counterclockwise di rection. Immediately upon movement of the front card holder in a counterclockwise direction, as illustrated in Fig. 2, the cam arm 84 moves out of engagement with the pin 86 to permit the tension spring 9! to rotate the plate holder (12 to bring the plate 87 into clamping engagement with the spring member 38 to clamp the cards 4 therebetween in the manner illustrated in Fig. I. The front and rear card holders it and Ti then move as a unit in a counterclockwise direc tion to cause the cards 4 to move relative to the bobby pins I mounted on the oven wire 41. During movement of the cards 4 relative to the hobby pins 2', the groups of bobby pins are directed to ward their respective card slits S by means of the guide grooves [59 formed in the guide bar 538, causing the lower uncrimped legs of the hobby pins to be threaded through the slots 5 and the upper crimped legs to be disposed against the outer face of the cards. The pusher fingers I53 serve to hold the groups of bobby pins in fixed position until they are mounted upon the cards A in the manner illustrated in Fig. 11; after which, the bobby pins i force the fingers 553 upwardly against the action of the compression spring I58.
After the bobby pins have been mounted upon the cards 4, the rear card holder mechanism TI is brought to rest against the adjustable stop members [23-423 causing the cams Elli-I IE to force the rollers HEB-H8 out of their recesses H'IH'l and thus move the clamping bar H32 out of clamping engagement with the plate to release the cards from the rear card holder llv After release of the cards A from the rear card holder 11, the front card holder '55 is caused to continue its movement in a counterclockwise direction by engagement of the push lugs ll9-| l9 against the abutment pins l2!l2i provided on the arms 98-86. During downward movement of the front card holder 16 and near the end of its movement, cam arm I'H moves into engagement with the cam segment H2, illustrated in Fig. 5, to cause rotational movement of the shaft 83 to cause the plate 81 to move out of clamping engagement with the spring 33. As the plate 8'1 moves away from the spring plate 83, the permanent magnet 62 acts to draw and hold the bob-by pins and card against the aluminum plate Itl until the card has passed from between the plate 81 and spring plate 88. The lever It? is then moved in a counterclockwi e direction as illustrated in Fig. 5 to rotate the shaft [6 and to move the magnet I62 away from the the aluminum plate 15! to cause the loaded card of bobby pins to drop into a hopper 19!. It is contemplated that the lever I61 may be either manually or automatically operated to move the magnet I 62 away from the plate Itl.
During movement of the roller on the gear segment I31, along the cam track It! of the box cam I42, the front card holder 76 is brought to rest in its lower position and then moved upwardly toward its first position by means of the push lugs l22l22 provided on the cams IlG-I 16. As illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3,
sagas the push lugs Ili -[22 engage against; the abutment studs I'll-42! to move the front card. holder in a clockwise direction. During clockwise movement of the front card holder Hi the adjustment screws 826-425 thereon engage and move the rear card holder ll in a clockwise direction until the latter is brought to rest by engagement of the stop pins [Ed -lie against the abutment l2d--i2i Immediately prior to the termination of the movement of the front card holder #6 in a clockwise direction, the arm 8:1, keyed to the shaft 33, engages against the stop pin 86 to move the plate ill away from the plate 88. It will be noted that the forward end of the spring plate 88 is engaged und r one end of the plate as during opening movement of the. plate Bl.
While this invention has been shown in but one form, it is obvious to those skilled in the art that it is not so limited but is susceptible of ions changes and modifications without deting from the spirit and scope of the claimed invention.
We claim as our invention:
1. In a machine for transferring bobby pins from an oven wire onto flexible cards formed with bobby pin receiving apertures, a frame, a front card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame to receive and clamp one end of a flexible card, a rear card holder mechanism mounted on said frame to receive and clamp the other end of the flexible card, means to support an oven wire carrying a plurality of bobby pins disposed in a common plane, com-- mon means to move said front and rear card holder mechanisms relative to said oven wire supporting means to cause one leg of each bobby pin to pass through the apertures of said flexible card and then to strip the bobby pins from the oven wire, abutment fingers mounted on said frame to enga e the loop ends of the bobby pins to yieldably resist displacement of said bobby pins from the oven wire while the legs of the bobby pins are being inserted through the apertures in said flexible cards, and means operable to disengage and remove a flexible card with bobby pins thereon from said front and rear card holder mechanisms.
2. In a machine for transferring bobby pins from an oven wire onto flexible cards formed with bobby pin receiving apertures, a frame, a front card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame to receive and clamp one end of a flexible card, a rear card holder mechanism mounted on frame to receive and clamp the other end of the flexible card, means to supportan oven wire carrying a plurality of bobby pins disposed in a common plane, common means to move said front and rear card holder mechanisms relative to said oven wire supporting mean to cause one leg of each bobby pin to pass through the apertures of said flexible card and then to strip the bobbypins from the oven wire, abutment fingers mounted on said frame to engage the loop ends of the bobby pins to yielolably resist displacement of said bobby pins from the oven wire while the legs of the bobby pins are being inserted through the apertures in said flexible cards, means operable to disengage and remove a flexible card with bobby pins thereon from said front and rear card holder mechanisms, and means to move said bobby pins along said oven wire to form spaced groups of abutting bobby pins.
In machine for transferring bobby pins from an oven wire onto flexible cards formed with bobby pin receivlng apertures, a frame, a front card holder mechanism mounted for move ment on said frame to receive and clamp one end of a flexible card, a rear card holder mechanism mounted on said frame to receive and clamp the other end of the nexibie card, means to support an oven Wire carrying a plurality of bobby pins disposed in a common plane, coininon means to move said front and rear card holder mechanisms relative to said oven wire supporting means to cause one leg of each bobby pin to pass through the apertures of said flexible card and then to strip the bobby pins from the oven wire, abutment fingers mounted on said frame to engage the loop ends of the bobby pins to yieldably resist displacement or said booby pins from the oven wire while the legs of the bobby pins are being inserted through the apertures in said flexible cards, means operable to disengage and remove a flexible card with bobby pins thereon from said front and rear card holder mechanisms, and means to move said bobby pins along said oven wire to form spaced groups of abutting bobby pins, said last mentioned means including a fork member formed with wedge-shaped teeth movable in a plane normal to the oven wire to further move bobby pins along the oven wire to form groups of abuttin bobby pins.
i. in a machine for transferring bobby pins from an oven wire onto flexible cards formed with bobby pin receiving apertures, a frame, a front card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame to receive and clamp one end of a flexible card, a rear card holder mechanism mounted on said frame to receive and clamp the other end of the flexible card, means to support an oven wire carrying a plurality of bobby pins disposed in a common plane, coil-- mon means to move said front and rear card holder mechanisms relative to said oven wire supporting means to cause one leg of each bobby pin to pass through the apertures of said flexible card and then to strip the bobby pins from the oven wire, abutment fingers mounted on said frame to engage the loop ends of the bobby pins to yieldably resist displacement of said bobby pins from the oven wire while the legs of the bobby pins are being inserted through the apertures in said flexible cards, means operable to disengage and remove a flexible card with bobby pins thereon from said front and rear card holder mechanisms, means to move said bobby pins along said oven wire to form spaced groups of abutting bobby pins, said last mentioned means including a fork member formed with wedge-shaped teeth movable in a plane normal to the oven wire to further move bobby pins along the oven wire to form groups of abutting bobby pins, andmeans to actuate said fork member relative to said oven wire prior to movement of said card holder mechanisms.
5. In a machine for transferring bobby pins from an oven wire onto a flat flexible card formed with bobby pin receiving apertures, a frame, support means on said frame to engage the ends of an oven wire having bobby pins mounted thereon, a front card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame past an oven wire engaged by said support means and including jaw means to grip the front end of a card, a rear Card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame past said engaged oven wire and including jaw means to grip the rear end of a 11 card, and means to move said front and rear mechanisms with a card thereon past the engaged oven wire to transfer bobby pins from the wire onto the card.
6. In a machine for transferring bobby pins from an oven wire onto a fiat flexible card formed with bobby pin receiving apertures, a frame, support means on said frame to engage the ends of an oven wire having bobby pins mounted thereon, a front card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame past an oven wire engaged by said support means and including jaw means to grip the front end of a card, a rear card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame past said engaged oven wire and including jaw means to grip the rear end of a card, means to move said front and rear mechanisms with a card thereon past the engaged oven wire to transfer bobby pins from the wire onto the card, and guide means mounted on said rear card holder mechanism to engage and direct the bobby pins onto said cards.

In a machine for transferring bobby pins from an oven wire onto a fiat flexible card formed with bobby pin receiving apertures, a frame, support means on said frame to engage the ends of an oven wire having bob-by pins mounted thereon, a front card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame past an oven wire engaged by said support means and including jaw means to grip the front end of a card, a rear card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame past said engaged oven wire and including jaw means to grip the rear end of a card, means to move said front and rear mechanism with a card thereon past the engaged oven wire to transfer bobby pins from the wire onto the card, guide means mounted on said rear card holder mechanism to engage and direct the hobby pins onto said cards, and abutment fingers mounted on said frame to engage and yieldably resist displacement of the bobby pins from the oven wire during transfer of the pins from the oven wire to the cards.
8. In a. machine for transferring bobby pins from an oven wire onto a fiat flexible card formed with bobby pin receiving apertures, a frame, support means on said frame to engage the ends of an oven wire having bobby pins mounted thereon, a front card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame past an oven wire engaged by said support means and includin jaw means to grip the front end of a card, a rear card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame past said engaged oven wire and including jaw means to grip the rear end of a card, means to move said front and rear mechanisms with a card thereon past the engaged oven wire to transfer bobby pins from the wire onto the card, guide means mounted on said rear card holder mechanism to engage and direct the bobby pins onto said cards, abutment fingers mounted on said frame to engage and yieldably resist displacement of the bobby pins from the oven wire during transfer of the pins from the oven wire to the cards, and means to remove a card with bobby pins thereon from said front and rear card holder mechanisms.

In a machine for transferring bobby pins from an oven wire onto a flat flexible card formed with bobby pin receiving apertures, a frame, support means on said frame to engage the ends of an oven wire having bobby pins mounted thereon, a front card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame past an oven wire engaged by said support means and including jaw means to grip the front end of a card, a rear card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame past said engaged oven wire and including jaw means to grip the rear end of a card, means to move said front and rear mechanisms with a card thereon past the engaged oven wire to transfer bobby pins from the wire onto the card, the front jaw means and rear jaw means being disposed in offset relation to buckle the card adjacent the apertures therein to facilitate mounting of bobby pins on the card.

In a machine for transferring bobby pins from an oven wire onto a fiat flexible card formed with bobby pin receiving apertures, a frame, support means on said frame to engage the ends of an oven wire having bobby pins mounted thereon, a front card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame past an oven wire engaged by said support means and including jaw means to grip the front end of a card, a rear card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame past said engaged oven wire and including jaw means to grip the rear end of a card, means to move said front and rear mechanisms with a card thereon past the engaged oven wire to transfer bobby pins from the wire onto the card, means to open said front and rear jaw means to release a card of bobby pins therefrom, and means to remove the card of bobby pins from said jaw means.

In a machine for transferring bobby pins from an oven wire onto a flat flexible card formed with bobby pin receiving apertures, a frame, support means on said frame to engage the ends of an oven wire having bobby pins mounted thereon, a front card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame past an oven wire engaged by said support means and including jaw means to grip the front end of a card, a rear card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame past said engaged oven wire and including jaw means to grip the rear end of a card, means to move said front and rear mechanisms with a card thereon past the engaged oven wire to transfer bobby pins from the wire onto the card, and means including a fork member having wedgeshape teeth to arrange the bobby pins into groups,
12. In a machine for transferring bobby pins from an oven wire onto a flat flexible card formed with bobby pin receiving apertures, a frame, support means on said frame to engage the ends of an oven wire having bobby pins mounted thereon, a front card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame past an oven wire engaged by said support means and including jaw means to grip the front end of a card, a rear card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame past said engaged oven Wire and including jaw means to grip the rear end of a card, means to move said front and rear mechanisms with a card thereon past the engaged oven wire to transfer bobby pins from the wire onto the card, means including a fork member having wedge-shape teeth to arrange the bobby pins into groups, and means to move said fork member toward and away from said oven wire.

In a machine for transferring bobby pins from an oven wire onto a flat flexible card formed with bobby pin receiving apertures, a frame, support means on said frame to engage the ends of an oven wire having bobby pins mounted thereon, a front card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame past an oven wire engaged by said support means and including jaw means to grip the front end of a card, a rear card 13 holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame past said engaged oven wire and including jaw means to grip the rear end of a card, means to move said front and rear mechanisms with a card thereon past the engaged oven wire to transfer bobby pins from the wire onto the card, and means including a shaft to support said front and rear card holder mechanisms for pivotal movement about a common axis.

In a machine for transferring bobby pins from an oven wire onto a flat flexible card formed with bobby pin receiving apertures, a frame, support means on said frame to engage the ends of an oven wire having bobby pins mounted thereon, a front card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame past an oven wire engaged by said support means and including jaw means to grip the front end of a card, a rear card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame past said engaged oven wire and including jaw means to grip the rear end of a card, means to move said front and rear mechanisms with a card thereon past the engaged oven wire to transfer bobby pins from the wire onto the card, and means to deliver a card to said front and rear jaw means for movement past said engaged oven wire.

In a machine for transferring bobby pins from an oven wire onto a flat flexible card formed with bobby pin receiving apertures, a frame, support means on said frame to engage the ends of an oven wire having bobby pins mounted thereon, a front card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame past an oven wire engaged by said support means and including jaw means to grip the front end of a card, a rear card holder mechanism mounted for movement on said frame past said engaged oven wire and including jaw means to grip the rear end of a card, means to move said front and rear mechanisms with a card thereon past the engaged oven wire to transfer bobby pins from the wire onto the card, clamping means mounted for movement on said frame to receive and engage a flexible card, and means to move said clamping means relative to said oven wire to transfer the bobby pins from the oven wire onto the cards.
