Applicationfifanuary 2, 1951, Serial No. iltlgliilv 2 Claims. (CL 222 181l N invention relates to a'liolderunit for an alloy gage used by dentists, or their assistants.
An alloy gage, as referred to herein, has hitherto been operatedby hand to dispense a certain amount of mercury and alloy, which, when propone hand and hold a funnel and an automatic mixer, or mortar, in the other hand and place the latter in the right position relative to the underside of the alloy gage is not an easy or practical operation.
In order to simplify and speed up this procedure and to create a safe and solid support and resting place for this valuable instrument, I have devised and constructed a combination holder unit for an alloy gage, which may be mounted permanently in an upright position in a convenient place, ready for instant use.
Another advantage of operating an alloy gage arranged in my devised holder unit is, that it will always remain in the same steady, fixed and vertical position, so that the whole amount of mercury and alloy released from the alloy gage can drop without any hindrance into the funnel of the device and into the automatic mixer (the latter not being shown). This advantage can never be attained, when the alloy gage is held in one hand and the funnel and automatic mixer in the other hand.
The holder unit is so constructed that the alloy gage can be refilled with mercury and alloy while resting in said unit.
The said holder unit is of a durable and sturdy construction, and may be made of metal, or any suitable material.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming part of this application, and in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all views, and in which:
Figure l is a front elevational view of my holder unit proper, showing in dotted lines the alloy gage positioned thereon.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of my device, as shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a transverse sectional view of the holder unit shown in Figure 2; while Figure 5 is a bottom view of my device, with a part broken off.
erly mixed by hand, or mechanically, into, a compound, is used for filling cavities in teeth.
To hold and manipulate an alloy gage with icularl'y'to the drawing, the
numeral fl 0 indicates'myholder comprising a one piece" unit having a bottom ll, corrugated side flanges, lower at the front, as at I2, and higher :at the rear as at I35 The device, further, has a back, or rear' plate M, which has its edges turned into a 'rearwardly extending rim portion I5 surrounding said'back.
The said rear plate I4 is provided with holes l6 therein adapted to receive screws I! for securing the holder unit to a wall [8. The said rear plate has an opening l9 therein in order to permit a rearward movement of a small adjustment plunger, or bolt 22, which cooperates with the alloy gage shown herein in dotted lines at 20, but which does not otherwise form a part of this invention.
The rear plate I4 has Washer-like enlargements 2| formed at the rear thereof and flush with the edges of rearwardly extending rim portion I5, so as to provide suflicient space between the rear plate l4 and the Wall l8 for the play of said plunger 22, when the latter in operating the alloy gage is pushed slightly backward.
The device is provided with a funnel 23 about centrally located at the bottom ll of the holder unit; said funnel being adapted to receive the material discharged by the alloy gage.
At the bottom of the holder unit is arranged a sliding spring member 24 adapted for adjustment, so as to form a snug grip upon the alloy gage 20. Said member consists of a piece of sprmgy material formed with an oblong slot 25 for said adjustment. The spring member 24, which is made with rounded end portion 26, is adapted to slide between the ridges 21 at the bottom I for steadying the movement of said member, which is secured underneath the bottom H of the holder unit by a screw 28.
The front wall 29 and part of the bottom II are made with cut- away portions 30 and 3!. respgctively, adapted to receive said spring member 4.
It is obvious that changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts, as shown, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I do not, therefore, wish to limit myself to the exact construction shown and described herein.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
I claim:
1. A device of the class described comprising in combination, a one piece holder unit having four walls and being adapted to receive an alloy 3 dispenser therein, said holder unit consisting of a low front wall, a bottom having a funnel, low corrugated side walls terminating in upwardly extending portions, and a rear wall being provided with holes, said front Wall and bottom being each formed with a centrally cut-away portion, ridges formed upon each side of the latter, and means slidable between saidoridg'es, whereby to accommodate different sizes of dispensers, screws mounted in the holes of the rear wall securing the holder to a surface, said rear wallhaving a centrally located opening adapted to rceivefa plunger from said alloy dispenser, rearwardly projecting flanges surroundingthe"peripherygoi said rear wall and forming a space between the latter and said surface, whrebyto obtain sum 1 cient play for said plunger.
2. A device of the class described comprising, A
formed upon each side'of the bottom cut-away .of. the'rear wall 'and securing the holder to a surface, said rear wall having a centrally located opening adapted to receive a plunger from said I valloy dispenser, rearwardly projecting flanges I -surrounding -the periphery of said rear wall and forming a space between the latter and said surface, whereby 'to obtain sufficient play for said plunger. 2
HELEN MARIE SIPTRO'IT.
