This invention relates to improvements in safety razors and has for its objects:
First, to provide a magazine razor holding a plurality of razor blades, with incorporated means for instantly replacing a used blade.
Second, a magazine razor incorporating means for storing used razor blades.
Third, a magazine razor wherein manual contact with blades is obviated.
Fourth, a safety razor of economical construction embodying the foregoing features.
With these objects in view, certain other novel features and advantages will be explained as the specification proceeds.
In the accompanying drawings:

Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view through the lower conveyor drum, on line 44 of Fig. 6.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged elevation, with the casing in section, showing the chassis retracted.
Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 5, but with the chassis in normal position.

At present there is an insistent demand for a safety razor wherein a used blade may be readily replaced by a fresh one.
To meet this demand several widely used brands provide a blade package with incorporated means for sliding a blade from the package into shaving position in the razor. In many instances there is no provision for preventing the discarded blade from becoming a hazard, especially to children.
In my improved razor, the advantages of unitary construction preclude manual handling of individual blades, several months supply of blades being enclosed in a locked casing.
The construction is such that the razor may be produced so economically as to be expendable, as a unit, when the supply of blades has been used in shaving.
Attention is called to the important advantage of provision for re-use of the entire supply of blades should the user find himself temporarily removed from a source of supply for new razors.
This latter advantage together with the foregoing features make this razor highly suitable for use by our armed forces.
Referring to the drawings, I0 is the body portion of a casing. H is a telescoping cover, adapted to fit tightly over and be inseparably attached to said body portion by indents, or other commonly utilized means, not shown.
Within the casing ll], II, is a chassis l2, consisting of a pair of similar spaced sides I3 and M, shown in section in Fig, 4 and Fig. 7.
Rotatably mounted on pins l5, at each end of said chassis l2, are upper conveyor drum I6 and lower conveyor drum II, for a purpose about to be explained.
The overlapping sides of easing body It and casing cover I, are so shaped as to provide slots l8, best shown in Fig. 2, for the purpose of receiving the ends of pins l5, thereby providing for a predetermined amount of guided chassis displacement.
Referring to Fig. 4 and Fig. 8, I9 is one of a plurality of single edge razor blades, provided at each end with a clip 2|], adapted to be compressed around the end of blade l9, after flexible cable 2|v has been passed between the lips of said clip 20, as shown. The compressing operation securely locks blades l9 to cable 2|.
By utilizing two strands of cable in the foregoing manner an endless band 22 of flexibly connected, accurately spaced razor blades may be produced, as shown in Fig. 5 and Fig. 6.
Such a band is adaptable to production automatic machines.
Referring to Fig. 5, Fig. 6, and Fig. '7, it will be seen that conveyor drums l6 and I! are provided with facets 23, contacting the blades of band 22, and nests 24, for clips 20.
The distance between conveyor drums l1 and I8 is adapted toprovide the correct degree of band tension when endless band 22 is mounted on said drums I! and I8.
In mounting band. 22 on chassis |2, the correct length of band assembly with free cable at each end is first provided. 7
Referring to Fig. 8, 25 is a cable connector, provided at each end with bifurcated portions, forming cable retainers, adapted to be compressed around the ends of cables 2|, as shown in Fig. 9.
The band assembly is mounted upon drums l1 and I8, and the free cable ends are positioned in the cable retainers of cable connector 25, as shown in Fig. 8, and the foregoing cable retainer portions of cable connector 25 are compressed around cable 2|.
The protruding cable ends are then clipped flush with the ends of cable connector 25, when the chassis sub-assembly is complete and ready to be inclosed by easing members In and II.
Referring to Fig. 5 and Fig. 6, 26 and 2'! are the two links of a toggle, tied together by pivot 28, as shown.
The toggle link 26 is pivoted on casing body II] by pin-.=2.9;. while toggle link 21 :is. pivoted-to chassis,l2-.by ;pin 30,-.as shown in? Fig. 7.
A slot 3?, in casing body Hi, accommodates toggle links 26 and 21 in their released position.
Projection 3|, on toggle link 26, is provided with a formed end 32, which acts as a -stop 'for the swing of said toggle link 26, in its locked-position and also provides means for operating by thumb nail engagement.
It will be seen that the said toggle links 26,;and 21 function to cause chassis I2, to slide within casing 10, ii, the predetermined distance represented by the length of ,slots 18,; and thatrxa powerful thrust, is exerted upon chassis 12, as pins 28, 29, and 30, become aligned.

vantage of to hold chassis l2 normally in the position, indicated in Fig. 6.
(Referring to Fig. 3 and Fig. 5, it will be seen that casing ,body is provided with resilientdip 33, which serves to, clamp, a razor blade against its corresponding facet on upper conveyor drum 16,,when chassis l2,is. forced upward throughthe action of toggle links 26 and 21.

In an implement for shaving, a casing provided with an opening, a chassis slidably retained in said casing, a conveyor drum mounted at each end of said chassis, an endless flexible band incorporating a plurality of blades, means for displaceably mounting said flexible band on said drums, a clamping element juxtaposed to said opening in said casing, a toggle for normally retaining said chassis in predetermined relationship to said clamping element, and means whereby the manipulation of said toggle will cause said chassis to move away from said clam-ping element for the purpose of indexing said flexible band, and restore said chassis to normal relationship to said clamping element.

In a implement for shaving, a casing provided with an opening at one end, a chassis longitudinally slidable in said casing, a conveyor drum mounted at each end of said chassis, an endless band incorporating a plurality of blades, means for displaceably retaining said band on said drums, a blade clamping element juxtaposed to said opening in said casing, an element attached to said casing whereby the longitudinal movement of said chassis will cause the said flexible band to be indexed a predetermined distance mith respect to its position on said chassis.
9. In an implement for shaving, a casing provided with an opening at one end, a chassis longitudinally slidable in said casing, a conveyor drum mounted at each end of said chassis, an endless band incorporating a plurality of blades, means for displaceably retaining said band on said drums, a blade clamping element juxtaposed to said opening in said casing, a manually operated member adapted to cause the succession of events represented by release of said blade clamping element, indexing of said endless band and restoration of said blade clamping element.
10. A razor comprising a casing having an opening therein, a chassis slidably mounted in said case, a plurality of flexibly attached blades guided by said chassis, means to advance said blades with reference to said chassis upon reciprocatory sliding movement of the chassis to present a succeeding blade of the plurality to the opening in said case.
11. A razor comprising a casing having an opening therein, a chassis slidably mounted in said case, a plurality of flexibly attached blades guided by said chassis, means to advance said blades with reference to said chassis upon reciprocatory sliding movement of the chassis to present a succeeding blade of the plurality to the opening in said case and means to bind a blade between the chassis and case as the chassis is slid into the casing with the bound blade projecting through said opening.
12. A razor comprising a casing, a chassis mounted in said casing, an endless band consisting of flexibly connected single edge razor blades mounted upon said chassis, an opening in said casing adjacent to one end of said chassis, said opening adapted to expose a blade edge for shaving action, the spacing of said razor blades in said band being such that the back edge of any blade constitutes a guard for the cutting edge of a juxtaposed blade when said juxtaposed blade is in shaving position, and means for successively placing said blades in shaving position with respect to said opening in said casing.
