This invention has for its object, a burner for liquid fuels with combustion air under atmospheric pressure for industrial and domestic purposes.
The main object of the invention is the realisation of a burner for liquid fuels such for instance as naphtha or similar fuels to realize a notable economy of combustion, while at the same time ensuing maximum elciency.
These objects are achieved by the burner described herein which is distinguished in the main by the fact that it comprises a basin fitted with at least one annular channel, into which enters the fuel duct, which annular channel is limited outside by a flat annular section extended against the inside wall of the body of the basin, which is enclosed by a movable cap fitted ringwise with flame splitting ssures across which can pass the combustion air, the said basin being arranged to run axially by means of suitable guides in a substantially cylindrical cover disposing the said basin in such a Way as to define between the outside wall of the latter and the internal Wall of `the said cover, an intervening space for the pas- .sage of the combustion air, there being moreover lprovided suitable means to obtain an axial displacement of the basin in relation to the cylindrical cover, to permit of regulating the amc.
Since the burner made in this way would be noisy, in order to avoid such inconvenience, there is provided an additional cap made essentially like a glass placed upside down, with a hole in the bottom and of such dimensions as to form `substantially a continuity of the cylindrical body of the basin on which it is applied, the said additional cap being provided with a series of openings arranged in its annular Wall.
In a practical form of construction of the burner, the basin is made in the form of a cylindrical body with bottom provided with a central inlet for the passage of the supplementary combustion air and limited by a small channel into which the liquid fuel flows, introduced by a tube for the purpose, which small channel is limited externally by annular step to establish a constant position of the flame splitting cap, there being provided on the top of the cylindrical wall of the said basin, suitable means for the application of the silencing cap.
The basin is, moreover, provided externally with guides for its axial motion, also with coupled levers for raising or lowering it to adjust the flame.
The invention will now be described more precisely ,in relation to a form of execution, given as an example, illustrated in the attached drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of the burner, on a reduced scale.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the mechanism shown in Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 represents a front elevation of Fig. l.
With regard to the attached drawing, I indicates the basin, 2 the central collar for the passage of the air, 3 the liquid fuel supply duct, 4 shows the ame splitting cap, which limits tube 3 delivering the fuel and is xed in its position by means of a stop 5 concentric to the geometric axis of the basin.
The basin I is tted on its outside wall with guiding means 6, directed parallel to its longitudinal axis, engaged with corresponding guiding means 1, presented by the inside Wall of a cover 8 or burner head, formed by a trunk-cylindrical body of such diameter as to form an intervening space 9 between its inside wall and the outside Wall of the basin. Head 8 is provided With horizontal lips II) which rest on supports II, carried by plate I2, which is tted with a hole I2a, to establish the continuity between the inside of the oven and the annular intervening space 9.
Plate I2 acts as a lid and at the same time forms a means of application to the oven or other place where the burner is applied.
To support the basin I, there is provided a clamp I3, which with arms I4, carries the basin I and at the same time serves to make it move axially, for the purpose of regulating the flame. For this purpose, there is fastened on clamp I3 at I3a, one end I5' of a lever I5, in its turn fastened at point I6 to an upright I1 made solid by means of bolts I8 or otherwise with an arm I9 carried by cover 8, which lever is fastened at its other end I 5" to a threaded stem 2I by means of a bolt 20. The threaded stem 2I can be made to move axially cooperating with a button 22 provided with a threaded hole 22', in which the said stem 2I can move, but not revolve on itself.
To obtain this end, there is provided a collar 23, within which the extension 22 of the said button can rotate freely, which extension has an annular groove 24, in which enters a xed bolt 25 which prevents the button 22 becoming displaced axially, compelling instead threaded stem 2 I to move axially.
For silencing the burner, there is provided an additional cap 26 in the form of a glass upside down, which with the opening 21, rests on a, corresponding annular step on the basin l and nishes with the end 28 tapering and limiting a hole 29, while on the lateral wall it shows a series of Windows 30 for ventilation purposes.
Having given this description, the working of the burner may be summarized in. a few words.
The liquid fuel comingv from duct 3 enters the annular intervening space of the basin l, dened by stop 5 for holding cap 4 in a constant position and by the outside wall of opening 2.
The said fuel is ignited by' any means what'- soever, thereupon applyingagain the additional cap 26.
In order to regulate the flame, it is necessary to manipulate the button 22. By turning this button in one direction or another, one effects a displacement of the lever l5V with its respective clamp i3 and with it, therefore, an axial movement of the basin i, the latter resting on arms I4 of clamp I3.
Among the numerous advantages ofthe. burner, as per Ythe invention, are those relative to the elimination of a fan, a compressor and the use of electric current.
The burner, according to the invention may of course be varied according to the use to which itis to' be put, nar'nely,l whether it is to be used for industrial or domestic purposeswithout, however', departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the claims appended hereto.v
I claim:
1. A burner for liquid fuel, comprising a basin having. a iiat bottom and provided with an upstanding wall at the peripheryof said bottom, said bottom having a centrally disposed air opening therethrough and an upstanding wall encircling said opening, saidgtwo upstanding Walls forming between them an annular channel, an inlet for liquid fuel communicating with said channel, a cap having openings in its wall and covering said air inlet,said4 cap standing in 'said annular channel, anV open topped silencer mounted on'the top vof the peripheral wall of said basin, the lower'part of said-silencer being cylindrical and provided with air openings and the upper part being tapered inwardly above said cylindrical part to the opening in the top, a vertically movable support for said basin, cap and silencer, an enclosing cylindrical cover held in a fixed position and disposed in encircling relation to said basin, cap and silencer, a flat cover disposed on the top end of said cylindrical cover and having a central opening above said basin, cap and silencer, and means for imparting a reciprocatory motionto said basin; cap and silencer on their verticaljsupport' toward and from said ilat cover thereby to regulate. the flame.
2. A burner for liquid as set forth in claim 1, said support comprising a lever pivoted intermediate its length to a xed support, the axis of said. support being horizontally disposed whereby the ends of the lever may be swung upwardly and downwardly, a vertically extending clamp pivotally connected to onev end of said lever, saidv clamp having'at its upper end horizontally extending arms underlying said basin and thereby supporting the basin, cap and silencer, and means pivotally connected to the opposite end of said lever and operative to move the lever on its pivot thereby to reciprocate the basin, cap and silencer toward and from said fixed cover.
3. A burner for liquid fuel as set forth in claim 2, said lever-moving means comprising a threaded stempivotally connected to the end of the lever opposite the clamp and a nut supported for rotation in a xed Vertical position and in engagement with the threaded portion of said stem.
