SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 264,934, dated September 26, 1882, .Application filed July 15,1882. (No model.)

, invented certam new and useful Improvements in Scaffold-Supports, of which the following is a specification.

The object of this invention is to furnish'an improved scaffold-support, to be used by masons and builders in the erection and repair of buildings, it being so constructed as to present a perfectly safe and reliable support for the putlogs as the work advances; and the invention consists of a scafibld-support made of U shape, with loops or openings for the putlogs, the U-shaped part being used in connection with the uprights or posts of the scaffold, said posts having inclined notches.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1. represents a perspective view of a scaffold erected with my improved supports. Figs. 2 and 3 are detail end and side views of the same, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view'of the support detached from the scaffold.

A in the drawings represents the upright posts which support the scaffold, and which are supported in any suitable manner at their base. These posts are made of square crosssection, and provided at one side thereof, at proper intervals, with inclined notches a, into which the middle parts of the scaffold-supports B are placed. The scaffold-supports B are made of wrought-iron, of suitable thickness and strength, which is bent in such a manner as to form a middle U-shaped portion, 1), and two loop-shaped ends, (1, of round or square shape, through which the pntlogs G are passed, t.heir inner ends resting upon the walls of the building or in spaces left for this purpose in the same. The middle part of the support B is arranged at such an inclination to the end loops, at, that when the putlogs are placed through the latter, and the middle part is applied to one of the notches a of the post A, the putlog Cis supported sidewise of the post, so as to receive thereby the platformboards, as shown clearly in Fig. 1.

The scaffold-support is intended to be used in place of lashing the putlogs to the posts by means of cords, ropes, or otherwise, as these are liable to break, and cannot be as easily adjusted as my improved supports.

In this connection I state that I am aware that a scaflbld-support that embraces the upright or post and bites into the same, being provided with a rest or bracket for the support of the putlogs, is well known and has been used heretofore. To that I lay no claim, as

the object of my invention is to connect the putlogs, which are rigidly held by the loops of the support, in an absolutely reliable manner, to the recesses of the posts, so that the parts of the scafi'old, when once connected, can never change their relative position toward each other, and form thereby a scaffold of great strength, and having a high degree of safety,

which may also be quickly erected or adjusted,

as required, in erecting or repairing buildings.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A scaffold-support formed of a bent inclined middle portion, having closed U-shaped portions at both ends of the middle portion. so as to entirely embrace the putlogs, substantially as set forth.

2. A scafl'old-support consisting of a downwardly-inclined U-shaped hook and closed loops opposite each other at each end of said book, all composed of wire in one piece, bent and knotted atthejoints of the hook and loops, substantially as described.

3. The combination, with the uprights or posts A, having inclined notches a, of the horizontal putlogs G and the scaflold-support B, which is formed of an inclined U-shaped middle portion hung to one of the notches, and of loop-shaped end portions embracing the putlogs, substantially as specified.
