In the rst embodiment of the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive, the housing is arranged for receiving plural rolls and having a single tearing edge which may be alternately used for one roll or the other.
The outer housing IIJ is desirably formed from .a single blank of paper, cardboard or other similar material and comprises a lower wall II, end walls I2, and side walls I3. This housing may have a suitable lcover 9- although such is not necessary. As shown in Fig. 3 the side walls may .cir

The width of flap 28, including tearing member 30 may be slightly less than the width of each enclosure I1. Thus, when it is desired to sever a length of the paper from one roll, the paper is pulled from the enclosure for a suitable length, the ap then swung to overlay the inner terminal of the piece as shown at 3l, and the length severed from the web. In Fig. 3 the flap is shown as overlaying the left hand enclosure and is also shown in broken lines overlaying the` right hand enclosure. In Fig. 4 the web 23 is shown as being partly severed from the roll along tearing edge 30.
Enclosures I1 are illustrated in Figs. 1 and 4 as being of lesser length than the length ofhousing l0. A separate enclosure 35 is shown at the left hand end of housing I0. 'Such enclosure may be of the same height as enclosures I1 and may -be of such other proportions as tot snugly between end wall I2 and the end walls I9 of enclosures I1. It may further have a central partition shown in dotted lines at 36 and a plurality of openings 31 for tape, ribbon or the like shown at 38 and also one for cord shown at 39. If desired, housing I0 may be of slightly greater length and a similar supplemental enclosure placed at the opposite end of the housing.
In the modied housing 40 shown in Fig. 5, such housing is of such width as to receive only one enclosure 4l for a single roll 42 of paper or the like. The outer terminal 43 of the web passes between outer side wall 44 and inner flap 45. The removable insert 46 is received between the outer side wall 44 of the enclosure and the side wall 41 of the housing. A hinge element 48 connects the insert with ap 449 having tear-l ing edge 50.
In the second modified form-of the invention shown in Figs. 6, 7 and 8, the housing 55 has a lower wall 56, side walls `5'! and end walls 58. The enclosures 59 for the rolls 50 of paper o-r the like are again of lesser height than the height of side walls 58. In this instance an insert 6| is received between the enclosures. This insert is provided with paper guides 64 on each side thereof which may be formed from wire and whose terminals 65 pass into openings '66 formed in cut-away section 61 along the upper Vedge at the terminals of such insert. Such insert is further formed with a. slot 68, extending downwardly from this upper edge. Insert 6| is of slightly greater height than the height of enclosures 59. The free end 10 of the paper from each roll passes through a slot 1l in the upper wall 12 of each enclosure and under hinged guide 64. after which it overlays the upper edge of insert 6|. It may be severed from the web of a cutting element comprising a handle member 14 having a knife element 15 extending do-wnwardly into slot l68. 4 While three forms or embodiments of the invention have been shown and described herein for illustrative purposes, and the construction and arrangement incidental to three specic applications thereof have been disclosed and discussed in detail, it is to be understood that the linvention is limited neither to the mere details or relative arrangement of parts, nor toits specific embodiments shown herein, but that extensive deviations from the illustrated forms or embodiments of the invention may be made without departing from the principles thereof.
Number What I claim is:
l. A dispensing container for rolls of paper or the like including an elongated outer housing and enclosures for the rolls of paper disposed within the housing, such enclosures having openings through which the paper may pass, the housing being proportioned to receive the enclosures in snug-fit relation, and means for tearing the paper from the rolls including an insert which is received between the adjacent side walls of the enclosures, a hinged flap at the upper end of the insert which is arranged to overlie one or the other of the enclosures, the free longitudinal edge of the hinged flap forming a tearing edge for the paper, the axis of the hinged line being disposed approximately at the level of the upper end of the enclosure.
2. A dispensing container for rolls of paper or the like including an elongated outer housing provided with a cover and enclosures for the rolls of paper disposed within the housing, such enclosures having openings through which the paper may pass, the housing being proportioned to receive the enclosures in snug-nt relation, and
means for tearing` the paper from the rolls including an insert which is received between the adjacent side Walls of the enclosures, a hinged ap at the upper end of the insert which is arranged to overlie one or the other of the enclosures, a substantially rigid member secured along the free longitudinal edge of the hinged flap forming a tearing edge for the paper, the axis of the hinged line being disposed approxirnately at the level of the upper end of the enclosures.
