WATCH-CASE.
SPEGEFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 264,579, dated September 19, 1882.
Application filed May 22, 1882.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that we, GUSTAV SPECKIIART and BEENEARD VOGEL, both resident at Nuremberg, in the Empire of Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Watches, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in watch-cases, and has 1 a for its obj eet to simplify the construction ofthe same.
Theinvention consistsin awatch-case formed of a crystal or front and back held together by an open ring provided at the ends with half- 1 pendants which are held together by a screw,
whereby the ring will be closed which surrounds the edges of the front and back, which are thus held in place.
The invention also consists in a plate provided in its front and rear surface with an annular groove for receiving the edges of the front and back.

A ring, A, having-a semicircular cross-see tionthat is, which is grooved internally and longitudimilly-is cut open transversely, and a half-head or half-pendant, B, is attached 4': to each end of this ring, these half-heads fit ting against each other to form a perfect head or pendant when the ring is closed. Then the ring is closed the two halfheads 13 are held together by a transverse screw, (3, and a bow, D, is attached to the head or pendant in the usual manner. Before closing the ring the circular plates E, to which the works are attached, the glass or crystal F, and the back G are placed into the ring, and when thering is closed the outer edges of this ring overlap the crystal F and the back G, as shown in (No model.)
Fig. 3, and will thus hold all the parts together. No hinges are required, and the case is composed of very few parts, which are held together without soldering. All the parts can be stamped out, pressed, or drawn.
Cases for stein-winding or key-winding watches can be constructed in the manner described, and for the watches of the latter description the key-holes must be punched out of the back and rovided with slides for keeping out the dust.
In the modification shown in Figs. 5, 6, and 7 the plate H and the pendant are made liltegral. The works are attached to the plate H, and this plate is provided in its front and rear sides with the annular grooves a and I) for receiving the edges of the crystal J and the back K. The back is provided with keyholes, and the pendant is provided with a bow, in the usual manner.
A bezel or fame for holding the crystal is not required in either of the watches described.
Having thus fully described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A watch-case made substantially as herein shown and described, and consisting of a crystal or front and a back held together by a clamping-ring surrounding their edges, as set forth.
2. In a watch-case, the combination, with the crystal or front and the back, of an open ring provided with half-pendants at the ends, andofdevicesfor-holdingthehalfheadsorpendants together, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a watch-case, the combination, with the crystal or front and the back, of an open ring provided with half heads or pendants at 0 the ends, and of a screw passed transversely through these half-heads for holding them together and closing the ring, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
EL. In a watch-case, the combination, wlth the crystal or front F and the back G, of the internally longitudinally grooved ring A, provided with half-pendants B at the ends, the screw 0, and the bow D, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
