Description

July 7, 1953 D. GUA'SCHINO NECKTIEDIMPLER Filed Oct. 22. 1951 INVENTOR LOUIS D. GLJASCHINO ATTORNEY Patented July 7, 1953 NE-oKTIE DIMPLER Louis D. Gnaschino, Hartfori Conn. Application October 22, 1951, SerialNo..252,495
Thisinvention relates to a. necktie shaping device, and particularly to a device for forming a dimple in a four-in-hand tie within and just below the knot.
Devices of this character have been so arranged as to require sewing tothe tie, or to require a hinged connection between the several parts of the device. A feature of the presentinvention fa Claims. (01. 2-153) f.
is a device which, will stay in place on the tie without being fastened thereto, will retain the dimple in position during tying of the knot, and which is small enough so that the size, of the'knotis not substantially increased.
Another feature is a readily formed device which can be attached to or removed from the tie without difiiculty and which can be easily adjusted to the proper position onv the tie.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the specification and claims, and from the accompanying drawings which illustrate an em-:
bodiment of the invention.
Fig. l is a view of a four-in-hand tie with the device shown in dotted lines. a
Fig. 2 is an elevation view showing the attach-.- ment of the device to. the tie before it is tiedrj Fig. 3 is a. sectional view along line 3;-3.-'o-f Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view along line ,4--4;'of
Fig. 2.
,Fig. 5 is a developed view of the device.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the device:removed from the necktie.
Fig. '7 is a sectional view similar to Fig. 3, with:
out the tie, showing a modification. As best shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the de Ice '2; is applied to the front or outer end 4 ofgthe' tie in a position to be covered by the knot, 61when the tie is in position around and beneath the collar 8 of a shirt. The device. is used to form the portion of the tie within the knot into a foldsuch that a dimple or fold I is formed and retained in the front of the tie just below the knot. At the same time the device is small enough so that the size of the knot 6 is not'increased to any substantial amount.
The device is formed from sheet material that is bendable but has rigidity enough to retain the shape into which it is bent. As shown in Fig; the blank l2 has a central portion l4 which'in being formed is folded down'the' center to form substantially a right angle corner therein, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The central portion has laterally projecting tabs l6 substantially narrower than the center portion which are folded over, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, into substantially 2 -12 1.. the same plane and are preferably of: such a di-: mension that the end edges [8 of :the tabs are closely abutting. v; The central portion Ma extending beyond the tabs [6 is further bent inwardly, after the re:- mainder of the forming is complete, to cause, the projecting corners20 closely to engage with; the folds in the necktie and prevent undesired sliding of the device on the necktie. Q 7
The device having been bent as describedinto the shape of Figs. 3 and 4, oras better shown in Fig. 6. is then placed over theouter end of the tie as shown in Fig. 2. That is to say, the, tie is formed witha centerfold 22,;and the outer edges are then refolded as at 24 such thattheouter edges are closely adjacent to fold 22 and the dimple I0 is formed by the folds. With he tie held in this manner the deviceis slipped ov, he
tie, being resilient enoughto permit insert n of the folded'tie. I
In applying the device the port on 1 4a; isplaced such that it points toward;thedependentuendlof the. tie and after the remainder of the deviceis in position the corners 20 are bent-inwardly; as,
2 shown, to bring the foldedportionsof the tie more into parallel relation as shown,. It will;benoted that the corners 2!] allow the outer edges of the.
'tie to spread out to someextent to assist incaus ing the portion of the tie projecting from the knot to overlie and to cover completely the underly ing or inner end of the tie. g
The device may be ;'left on the tie or, as willbe apparent, may be removed for attachmenttoan other tie whenever desired since the device vis readilyremovable or replaceable from 7 any neck:- tie. The dimensionsof the device may be modi fied somewhat depending, on the sizeof the tie-g but the best dimensioned device is made i'ron'ra substantially square blank which is generally about one and one-quarter inches in eachdimension, with two adjacent corners notchedto leave the portion l4a' aboutthree-quarters of van-inch in width. The notches cut out will leaveth'e tabs l6- projecting about one-quarter of an inch from the center portion, and about five-,eighths, of an inch wide. It will be understood that-these dimensions are not critical andmay, be Hvaried. within limits to accomplish the desired result on the tie. 1 J;
Instead of holding the device on the tie by the tabs l6, these tabs maybe replaced byaa hinged strip 26, Fig. '7, which extends .acrossbetween; opposite edges of the centrallportion 14" i come. parable to the-portion l4 of Fig. Si- 'Io-Ithis end the strip 26 is hinged as by a pin 28 to one edge- The strip 26 has a ways without departure from its spirit as defined by the following claims.
