UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES NELSON AND NELS NELSON, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
FOLDING WOVEN-WIRE MATTRESS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 264,192, dated September 12, 1882.
Application tiled May 12, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JAMES NELSON and NELS NELSON, citizens of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in FoldingWoven-Wire Mattresses; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in woven-wire-mattress frames.A
The construction of our improvement is further explained by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which--v Figure l represents an end, and Fig. 2 a perspective, view.
Like parts are represented by the saine reference letters in both views.
A A are the mattressframes, each of which is about one-half the width of the mattress. Each frame is complete in itself, having separate sides and ends, which are rigidly jointed together by the hinges B B of the peculiar shape shown, the joints of which are formed above the side rails of the frame in a line with the wire fabric C, whereby the frame and fabric fold evenly together without straining or cramping the spiral wires. Each wing D D of the respective hinges are formed at right angies to the central or vertical part, whereby they are adapted to be secured. to the rails in a horizontal position in line with the rails, while the joint of the hinge is brought above said rails in line' with the fabric, as mentioned.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of frames,A A, a single piece of woven-Wire fabric, O, adapted to cover both frames, and angular hinges B B, the joints of which hinges are formed above the bars of the frame, whereby a circular curve is given to the fabric at its center when folded, and the injury arising from folding the saine at an angle -is obviated, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES NELSON. NELS NELSON. Witnesses:
JAS. B. EEWIN, E. G. ASMUS.
