The end of the enlarged portion 20 nearer the tip 23 contacts the indentations 21 when the rod extends into the ejector a predetermined amount in order to limit compression of the relatively Weak spring 28.
A cover member 29 is provided for the receptacle and includes a top wall 3D and a rim or cylindrical side wall 3 I, adapted to snugly and rotatably receive the upstanding rim or wall I2 of the container Ill. The rim 3| is provided-with diametrically opposite apertures 32 and 33 which may be aligned with the apertures I4 and I5 of the receptacle rim I2 when the cover is in proper position. A ange or boss 32', 33' is provided adjacent the apertures 32 and 33, respectively, and on the outer portion of the rim to facilitate the reception of a pipe bowl adjacent the apertures and the extended 'lia-nge I3 of the receptacle member. Similarly, a slightly raised boss is provided on the outer portion of the rim I2 of the receptacle I0 adjacent the aperture I4 in order to provide a snugger engagement with the rim of the cover member at this location, and thus to effectively seal the cover from leakvage through the aperture I4 of the container.
If desired, the bottom II and top 30 of the receptacle and cover may be respectively concave and convex in order for the receptacle to more readily conform to the shape of the body when carried.
While the device may be readily constructe of plastic material, for certain advantages including resistance to corrosion and the like, the invention is not restricted to manufacture from any particular material.
In the operation of the device the receptacleA I0, with the cover removed, may be filled with the fluent material to be dispensed and the plunger and ejector moved to a position within the confines `of the rim or wall I2 by manual manipulation permitting the cover to be placed on the receptacle. If the apertures I4 and I5 of the receptacle are entirely out of registration with the apertures 32 and 33 of the cover, the material will be confined within the receptacle to the exclusion of air, light and the elements. As such, the receptacle may be carried on the person or kept for a substantial time Without the contents being adversely affected.Y
To dispense material from the receptacle the rim and top of the cover 29 are grasped in one,4
hand and the iianged portion I3 of the receptacle in the other and the receptacle rotated relative to the cover until the apertures of the cover and receptacle are in registration. If desired, the bottom I I of the receptacle may carry markings indicating the position of the apertures I 4 and I5 in the rim I2 although this is not necessary. Upon the apertures of the receptacle and-cover registering the plunger 2| is forced through the aperture I5 of the receptacle and the aperture 32 or 33 of the cover which is in registration by `the spring 22 which tends to normally bias the plunger to this position. The pipe or other device` which it is desired to fill is then placedv beneath the aperture I4 of the receptacle and the registering aperture of the cover and the device tilted so that the registering discharge apertures are at a lower level than the remainder of the device. In this position the material within the container will gravitate toward the discharge openings and into the space between the ejector head 2S and the discharge apertures. Depression of the plunger 2I then moves the rod 2B and ejector 25 through the space toward the discharge apertures to force the material therethrough which does not fallout by gravity. The plunger may be operated as many times as necessary to eject the desired amount and accompanied by shaking of the container in order to carry the material to the lower portion of the container for discharge. A pipe may be placed directly beneath the discharge apertures, as shown in Fig. 2, in which position the head 26 may tamp the material into the pipe.
During filling of the pipe the ejector head may extend down into the pipe, as shown in phantom lines in Fig. 2, to lightly tamp the tobacco. After the last downward stroke of the plunger the device may be inverted and the plunger 2| projecting from the device may be used as a tamp to more firmly pack the tobacco in the pipe.
At the completion of discharge the device may be closed manuallyY by grasping the coverwith the thumb and middle nger over the diametrically opposed apertures and pressing the plunger and ejector inwardly, the other hand grasping the anged portion I3 of the receptacle and rotating it until the apertures of the cover and receptacle are out of registration. Similarly, the thumb and middle finger may be placed over the apertures when the receptacle is being rotated to open position such that upon the apertures registering, the plunger and ejector may be felt.
l It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in the embodiment of the invention described without departing from the spirit and scope thereof and therefore this invention is not limited by that which is shown in the drawings or described in the specication but only as indicated in the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A combination container and dispenser for fluent material comprising a relatively flat cylindrical open top receptacle having a bottom and a rim, the bottom having ay flange with a gripping portion extending substantially beyond the rim, the rim having diametrically opposite apertures spaced substantially `midway of the rim sides, a housing within the receptacle having a main and a reduced bore aligned with said apertures,.a rod snugly received by said reduced bore, a cylindrical -plunger received by said main bore and the rim aperture in cornmunication therewith, the rod extending within the plunger and threadedly engaged therewith, a compression spring on said rod within said housing tending to hold a portion of said plunger extended. from said housing, said rod having a flanged tip on its remote end and a portion of increased diameter spaced therefrom by a portion of smaller diameter, an ejector member having a mushroom head and asleeve body slidably receiving said remote end and said increased diameter portion and said smaller diameter portion, the sleeve body having internal projections spaced from the head for engaging said tip and said increased diameter portionv and preventing complete Withdrawal of said rod therefrom and limiting the inward movement of said rod thereinto, a compression spring within said sleeve bodyv between said head and the tip of said rod ,for normally biasing said ejector aun-coi'- member outwardlyl from said rod kto the extent permitted by said projections, and a cover for said receptacle having a top and a rim snugly and rotatably receiving the rim of said receptacle, the rim of said cover having diametrically spaced apertures adapted to be aligned with those of the receptacle to permit discharge of fluent material and projection of said plunger for manipulation.

A combination container and dispenser for fluent material comprising a relatively iiat cylindrical open top receptacle having a bottom and a rim, the bottom having-a ange with a gripping portion extending substantially beyond the rim, the rim` having diametically opposite apertures, a housing within the receptacle having a main and a redu-ced bore alignable with and communicable with said apertures, a rod snugly received by said reduced bore, means on said rod for limiting its movement into the housing, a cylindrical plunger' received by said main bore and the rim aperture in communication therewith, the rod extending within the plunger and threadedly engaged therewith, a spring within said housing tending to hold a portion of said plunger extended from said housing, said rod having a anged tip on its remote end and a portion of increased diameter spaced therefrom by a portion of smaller diameter, an ejector member having a mushroom head and a sleeve body slidably receiving said remote end and said increased diameter portion and said smaller diameter portion, the sleeve body having internal projections spaced from the head for engaging said tip and said increased diameter portion and preventing complete withdrawal of said rod therefrom and limiting the inward movement of said rod thereinto, a compression spring within said sleeve body between said head and the tip of said rod for normally biasing said ejector member outwardly from said rod to the extent permitted by said projections, and a cover for said receptacle having a top and a rim snugly and rotatably receiving the rim of said receptacle, the rim of said cover having diametrically spaced apertures adapted to be aligned with those of the receptacle to permit discharge of fluent material and projection of said plunger for manipulation.

A combination container and dispenser for i iiuent material comprising a relatively iiat cylindrical open top receptacle having a bottom and a rim, the rim having diametrically opposite apertures, a housing within the receptacle alignable with both of said apertures and in communication with one of said apertures, a rod snugly received within said housing, means for limiting movement of said rod within the housing, a plunger received by said housing, the rod extending within the plunger and engaged therewith, means within said housing tending to hold a portion of said plunger extended from said housing, an ejector member having a sleeve body receiving said rod, the sleeve body having means for engaging said rod and preventing complete withdrawal of said rod therefrom, means within said sleeve body for normally biasing said ejector member outwardly from said rod to the extent permitted by said withdrawal preventing means, and a cover for said receptacle having a top and a rim snugly and rotatably receiving the rim of said receptacle, said cover rim having diametrically spaced apertures adapted to be aligned with those of the receptacle to permit ift 6, discharge o-f fluent material and projection vof said plunger for manipulation.

A combination container and dispenser for fluent material 4comprising a `relatively iiat `cylindrical open top receptacle having a bottom and a rim, the rim having diametrically yopposite apertures, a housing within the receptacle in alignment with said apertures Aand in communication with `one of said apertures, a rod snugly received within said housing, a plunger received by said housing, the rod engaging the plunger, Vmeans tending to hold a portion of said plunger' extended from said housing, an ejector member slidably associated with said rod, means for preventing `disengagement of said rod Aand said ejector member, means for normally biasing said ejector member toward disengagement from said rod to the extent permitted, and la cover for said receptacle having a top and a rim snugly and rotatably receiving the rim of ysaid receptacle, said cover rim having spaced apertures adapted to be aligned with those of the receptacle to permit discharge of fluent material and projection of said plunger for manipula- 5. A combination container and dispenser for fluent material comprising a relatively flat cylindrical receptacle having a bottom and a rim, the rim having at least two spaced apertures, a housing within the receptacle, in alignment with said apertures, a rod snugly received within said housing, a plunger received by said housing, the rod engaging the plunger, means tending to hold a portion of said plunger extended from said housing, an ejector member slidably associated with said rod, means 'for preventing disengagement of said rod and said ejector member, means for normally biasing said ejector member toward disengagement from said rod to the extent permitted, and a cover for said receptacle having a top and a rim snugly and rotatably receiving the the rim of said receptacle, said cover rim having spaced apertures adapted to be aligned with those of the receptacle to permit discharge of iiuent material and projection of said plunger for manipulation.

A combination container and dispenser' for iiuent material comprising an open top receptacle having a bottom and a rim, the rim having at least two spaced apertures, a rod slidably positioned within said receptacle and received by one of said apertures, means tending to eject said rod from said receptacle through one of said apertures, means limiting the ejection of said rod therefrom, an ejector member slidably associates with said rod, means for preventing disengagement of said rod and said ejector member, means for normally biasing said ejector member outwardly from said rod to the extent permitted, and a cover for said receptacle having a top and a rim snugly and movably receiving the rim of said receptacle, said cover rim having spaced apertures registrable with those of the receptacle to permit discharge of fluent material and projection of said rod for manipulation.

A tobacco container and dispenser comprising a pair of cup members each comprising a cylindrical wall and a closure for such wall at one endv of the same, said cup members being tted together to form a relatively tight container with the cylindrical wall of one cup meinber rotatably engaging the cylindrical wall of the other cup member, said cup members having circumferentially spaced apertures capable of being brought into alignment, a reciprocating member mounted in the inner; Ycupmenlber in a manner that when the apertures are in alignment said reciprocating member will project through the aligned apertures at one location on-,the cireumn ference and permit the discharge of tobacco through the aligned apertures at the other location on the circumference of the cups, said reciprocating member being movable to serve as a tamper vfor tobacco in a smokers pipe.

In a tobacco container and dispenser including a pair of cup members each comprising a cylindrical Wall and a closure forsuch wall at one end of the same, said cup members being fitted together to form a relatively tight container with the cylindrical Wall. of one cupmember rotatably engaging' the cylindrical Wall of the other cup member, said cup members having diametrically opposed apertures capable of being brought into alignment, and a compressible member reciprocably mounted in the inner cup member in a manner that when the apertures are in alignment said reciprocable member will project through the alignel apertures at one end of the diameter and permit the dischargeof to bacco through the aligned apertures at the opposite side of the cup, that improvement which con. sists in providing a raised portion immediately surrounding the inner cup member discharge aperture for contacting the interior of the cylindrical Wall of the outer cup member to provide a substantially air-tight seal.
