3 Claims.
The invention relates to tobacco pipes and cigarette holders. A number of improvements have been devised for cooling the smoke and eliminating impurities thereof by lengthening the smoke passage through the medium of a multiple reverting smoke passage.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved tobacco pipe and cigarette holder of this general description.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth in the claims.
, In the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 is a central longitudinal section of the pipe, some parts being in full lines and broken away.
Figure 2 is a detail perspective view of the stem section and the adjacent portion of the bitsection separated from each other.
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3 3, Figure l.
Figure 4 is a detail end view of the stem section, taken from the forward end thereof.
Figure 5 is a detail end view of the stem section taken from the rear end thereof.
Figure 6 is a diagrammatic view of the reverting smoke passage.
In these drawings, the numeral I designates the bowl section of the pipe, having a stub stem portion I the free end of which is provided with a cylindrical socket 2 and a central concentric reduced cylindrical socket 3 communicating with socket 2.
The stem proper of the pipe is provided at the bowl end thereof with a reduced cylindrical tenon 4 having va slip joint connection with the outer portion of socket 2 to leave the inner portion of socket 2 vacant. Tenon 4 has a central reduced cylindrical concentric tenon 5 having a slip joint connection with the outer portion of socket 3 to leave the inner portion of socket 3 vacant. The result is an annular smoke passage 6 surrounding tenon 5 and a smoke passage 'I between the end walls of tenon 5 and socket 3.
The stem proper of the pipe is provided at the bit end thereof with a cylindrical socket 8 and a central concentric reduced cylindrical socket 8' communicating with socket 8. The forward end of the bit or mouth piece I0 is provided with a reduced cylindrical tenon II which has a slip joint connection with socket 8. Tenon I I is provided with a further reduced concentric tenon I I which has a slip joint connection with socket 8.
The smoke travels from the bottom of the bowl, through a passage I3 in stub stem portion I to annular passage 6; thence from annular passage 6 rearwardly through a longitudinal passage I4 which extends in a straight line within the stem proper. Passage I4 communicates rearwardly with a transverse passage I5 leading to a forwardly extending longitudinal passage I6 which also extends in a straight line within the stem proper. Transverse passage I5 is located in the end wall of socket 8 and is completed by the end wall of tenon Il. Passage I6 communicates forwardly with a transverse passage I'I located in the cylindrical wall of tenon 4 and leading to a rearwardly extending longitudinal passage IB which also extends in a straight line within the stem proper. Transverse passage I'I is completed by the cylindrical wall of socket 2 with which tenon 4 engages. Passage I3 communicates rearwardly with a transverse passage I9 leading to a forwardly extending longitudinal passage I6' which also extends in a straight line within the stem proper. Passage I6 communicates forwardly with a transverse passage Il located in the cylindrical wall of tenon 4 and leading to a rearwardlyextending longitudinal passage I8 which also extends in a, straight line within the stem proper. Transverse passage Il is completed by the cylindrical wall of socket 2 with which tenon 4 engages. Passage I6 communicates rearwardly with .a transverse passage I9 leading to a forwardly extending longitudinal passage 20 which also extends in a straight line within the stem proper. Transverse passages I9 and I9 are located in the end wall of socket 8 and are completed by the end wall of tenon II. Passage 20 is extended forwardly through tenon 5 into communication with passage 1, into which passage "I also opens the forward end of a rearwardly yextending longitudinal passage 2| also extending in a straight line within the stem proper.
The bit or mouth piece Ill has a smoke passage 22 extending through its tenons II and II and connecting up with passage 2 I.
Thus the pipe is provided with a multiple reverting smoke passage comprising longitudinal passages I4, I6, I6', I8, I8', 20 and 2I which all respectively extend in a straight line within the stem proper and may be readily cleaned by running a pipe cleaner therethrough upon pulling the sections of the pipe apart at the slip joint connections thereof. Upon pulling the sections of the pipe apart, the transverse passages I5, I9,.
I9', I1 and Il, and the sockets 2 and 3 are'exposed and may be readily cleaned.
Since socket 3 is reduced in diameterI with re- 3 spect to socket 2, and tenon 5 reduced in diameter with respect to tenon 4, the above construction constitutes a stepped socket and stepped tenon slip joint connection. Similarly, the stepped construction applies to the stepped sockets 8, 8 and stepped tenons Il, Il', respectively.
The slip joint connections of the pipe sections facilitate the disconnection and connection of the pipe sections and having smooth walls are themselves readily cleaned.
The stem section of the pipe and its smoke passages or channels may Vary in length in accordance with the size and shape of different kinds or styles of pipes.
I claim:
