Claims. (01. 46- 17) The present invention contemplates structural toy outfits for building toy fences adapted; and for use on a flat support such as: a, table or the floor.
According to the present invention, the toy fences are assembled'bythe child out of a comparatively' small number of inexpensive cast units, each of which looks like a length offence. By rearranging the parts one can erect fences of various sizes and provide enclosures of various shapes as well asinterconnecting fences, corrals, andthe like. According to the present invention, the units going to make up fences are provided with bases adaptedto support the fence unit from the table, and these bases are provided with suitable holes to receive pins carried by other similar fence forming units to interconnect the units with one another.
The accompanying drawings show various forms of fence forming units utilized in the assembly of typical fence enclosures.
In these drawings,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a toy corral with swingin gate;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the fixed an movable parts forming the gate;
Figure 3 is a perspective view of a. fence unit of double length and adapted for use with other fence units to form an extended length of fence or connect a fence with a lateral fence;
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3, showing a. fence unit of half the length of that of Figure 3, and suitable for use as an extension of a fence, using the same unit or the units of Figure 3;
Figure 4a. is a view similar to Figure 4, illustrating a form of fence unit suitable for support only from two other fence units having self-supporting bases, also for use as a removable gate;
Figure 5 is a top plan view of a rectangular enclosure which can be built with the parts illustrated in Figures 2, 3 and 4, showing the gate swung open in dot and dash lines and showing a rectangular form of enclosure;
Figure 6 is an enlarged elevational view of parts in section, showing the gateway; and
Figure 7 is a horizontal section on the line 1--l of Figures 1 and 6.
The corral shown in Figure 1 employs a gateway member ID, a swinging gate ll, two long fence forming units [2, l2, and a short fence forming unit 13. The gateway unit It has two round bases lOa provided with holes lllb, side members lllc and top bar Ind. One of the side members lDc carries a bracket [0a. The swinging gate member I I has a number of horizontal bars l-.la. a long end post lib,- a short endpost l te, and a middle post lid. The upper end of the ion-g end post Hbis received! in the bracket (fie on the gateway anditslower reduced end He isreceivedi-n the aligned hole ID?) of the adjacent base ltd. The gatemember swings in the gateway andthe lower end of the shorter endpost He is adapted to enter into one of theholes [0b of the-adjacent post We of the gateway.
The double length. fence forming units i2. of Figure-3 have an. end post- [2a, reduced lower end i222, a center post I 20 having a base .lfldlprovided with holes E29 and. an end post l2 provided with a base lZg carryingholes 1.21- The pin til) at the end of the fence forming unit I2 is adapted to enter into one of the holes Itb of the base of the gate, or into any of the holes in the bases IN and [2t of similar units, so that the unit l2 can be attached to the gateway or to the other similar units to extend the fence or provide laterals from an existing fence.
The unit I3 shown in Figure 4 is half the length of the unit l2 shown in Figure 3, and it has two end posts l3a, l3a with reduced ends I31), I31). Such a unit may be used to connect together two units I2 as shown in Figure 1.
The fence forming unit l4 shown in Figure 4a is similar to the unit l2 of Figure 3 but is only half the length. It may be used as a short ex-- tension of a fence as shown at the left of Figure 5 and may interconnect a series of units l2 with one another, or a series of single length units to form. a fence. It, of course, may also be used to start. a lateral from any of the other fence units.
An outfit provided with a suitable number of the various units above described makes it possible for the child to assemble corrals, fences and; the like, having a great many forms and layouts. The fences are assembled without the use of any tools and can be readily disassembled and rearranged as desired.
Since it is obvious that the invention may be embodied in other forms and constructions within the scope of the claims, I wish it to be understood that the particular forms shown are but a few of these forms, and various modifications and changes being possible, I do not otherwise limit myself in any way with respect thereto.
What is claimed is:
1. In a. structural toy outfit for building toy fences, a fence unit comprising three post members rigidly interconnected by horizontal bars, one end post member and the intermediate post member each having a flat flanged base so that the unit stands upright on a flat support, the
base having vertical apertures therein, the other post member having a lower end receivable in the apertured base of another similar unit.
2. In a structural toy outfit for building toy fences, a gate forming unit comprising a stationary member having two end posts secured to apertured fiat base flanges and rigidly interconnected by a top bar, a bracket carried by one end post, and a movable gate having one end post pivoted in the bracket and an aperture in the adjacent base, and its other end post having its lower end receivable in an aperture in the other base.
3. A toy fence assembly comprising a gate section having end posts rigidly interconnected at the top by a bar and provided with fiat bases having vertical holes and a swinging section loosely pivoted at one end to one of the posts to swing laterally and having a downwardly extending pin at its other end in such location as to be adapted to enter one of the said holes in the base below the other post, and a plurality of fence sections having end posts with pins detachably received in the holes in the gate post bases and ineluding other posts having flat bases provided posts and extending beyond one of the posts, a third post extending vertically across the extended bars, the bases having vertical holes and the third post having a pin matching the said holes whereby upon insertion of said pin in a hole of a similar unit the units may be assembled end to end to form an extended self-sustaining fence, or a lateral extension thereof.
5. Releasable interlocking devices such as claimed in claim 4, together with a toy gate structure with a base at each end similar to the bases of the first mentioned toy elements so that it can be connected at its ends to two such elements each having a pin, posts extending upwardly from the gate bases, a top connecting bar rigidly joining the latter posts, and a swingable gate section pivoted to one of the gate posts and its base and releasably attachable to the other gate post and its base.
