Y E N R O T T A Patented May 5, 1953 DISPLAY SUPPORT Julius Pine, Brooklyn, N. Y., assignor to Sedgwick Furniture Corp., Brooklyn, N. Y., a corporation of New York Application February 14, 1950, Serial No. 144,130
2 Claims. (01. 211-27) This invention relates to display assemblies and to supports for use therein, and finds application in the display of headboards for beds, footboards for beds, and articles of like nature.
In the display of such articles I have found that space can be saved and a particularly effective display obtained by arranging, the articles one above and slightly behind the other. For this purpose it is important that there be provided a simple, strong, and permanent display support which will effectively and securely mount the articles in advantageously-displayed arrangement, and which will itself be sightly but which will interfere with the display to the smallest possible extent. It is also important in many instances that the display support be readily collapsible into a compact unit for shipping, for transportation from one point to another in a store, or for storage when not in use.
With the foregoing and other considerations in view, the present invention contemplates the provision of a form of display support comprising a rearwardly inclined metal bar, or like member, supported by a standard or bracing arm in the form, for example, of a metal bar, and carrying generally-vertical mounting plates spaced therealong. In various of its more specific aspects it contemplates the provision of connected arms one of which extends a less distance from its pivot point than the other, so that the former will stand more nearly upright; the provision of a narrow elongated base in the form, for example, of a metal bar; the provision of pivotal and releasable connections between the arms and between the arms and the base to permit the collapse of the support; the provision of mounting plates which comprise one wing of angle irons and which are welded or otherwise secured to the support; the provision of at least one mounting plate above the point of connection of the displaying arms; and the provision of fastener-receiving openings in the support. The invention also contemplates the provision of display assemblies wherein a pair of display supports are united by display elements, and, in certain of its more specific aspects, the provision of display elements having legs and/or fastener-receiving openings adapted to be alined with the mounting plates and/or with fastener-receiving openings therein.
The invention accordingly comprises the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts, which will be exemplified in the constructions hereinafter set forth and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the claims.
For a fuller understanding of the nature and objects of the invention, reference should be had to the following detailed description taken Figure 1 is a front View of a display assembly embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a side view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a side view of one of the display supports;
Fig. 4 is a front view thereof;
Fig. 5 is a front view of the other display support; and
Fig. 6 shows a support in collapsed condition.
The display assembly exemplified comprises a pair of display supports I0 and II and a plurality of display elements I2, in the form, in the present instance, of headboards of beds, each having legs I with fastener-receiving means in the form of one or more holes I5 therein (two holes in the present instance). The display supports carry, respectively, at spaced intervals alined, generally vertical mounting plates I! which, as exemplified, extend outwardly of the assembly to permit the display elements to be secured thereto with particular ease, and each of which has fastener-receiving means in the form of two holes I8 in the present instance. A pair of bolts 20 serve to fasten each leg to a plate l1.
Each of the exemplified supports I0 and H comprises a base 22, a supporting arm 23, and a standard 24 in the form of an arm terminating short of the top of the supporting arm in the present instance. As exemplified each of these elements is in the form of a metallic bar. The supporting arm 23 extends obliquely upwardly to the rear, forming an acute angle with the arm 24, which, as exemplified, is inclined slightly forwardly.
Each of the plates l'l constitutes one wing of a short angle iron 25, the other wing 26 of which i welded, as at 27, or otherwise secured to a supporting arm 23, the plates I! on the right-hand arm (Fig. 1) extending to the right and the plates ll on the left-hand arm extending to the left.
In accordance with the invention in certain of its more specific aspects. the supports l0 and H are collapsibly formed, the standard 24 being pivotally secured to the base 22 at 30 and to the supporting arm 23 at 3|, and the supporting arm being secured to the base by a bolt 32 and a. removable nut 33. Upon removal of the nut 33 and with the withdrawal of the bolt 32, a support may be collapsed and folded into a compact unit for easy movement or storage, as shown in Fig. 6.
Since certain changes may be made in carrying out thefabovemiethod withoutdep rtingirqm the scope 'Qf the invention, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in @8- limiting sense.
I claim:
1. A display assembly comprisingapairnf 615D- ports having inclined faces, a paireof standards therefor, and a plurality of lugs at similarly alined spaced points on said supports and extending in generally vertical "planes out from the sides of said standards, said lugs being-;adapted by alining in pairs tol support display elements each having a'paircf lees tube securedtolanair \Qfflugs.
2. A display assemblycomprising a pair ofsuprports having inclined faces, .a plurality of lugs at similarly-aimed spaced points on said supports and extending .in generally vertical ,planes ut from the sides [of the standards, display elements 4 having legs alined. with pairs of said lugs, and a fastener securing each leg to a lug.
