This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a coin delivery chute and more particularly to a coin delivery chute With flexible walls which permit positioning of a delivery spout in diierent directions relative to a coin delivery machine.
Devices for delivering change to customers are used extensively in theaters, restaurants, and other business establishments. These devices usually consist of a coin delivery machine with a coin delivery chute attached thereto. A delivery cup receives the coins from the delivery chute and the customer removes his change from the delivery cup.
'Since the number of places where such devices are used is quite numerous, it is desirable that a system be presented whereby the direction and position of the delivery chute relative to the coin delivery machine is variable. Furthermore, since the coin delivery chute may be located at diierent sides of the coin making machine, it is desirable that a chute be provided which may be simply and easily connected to and disconnected from the coin delivery machine.
Thus, one of the objects of this invention is to provide a iiexible coin delivery chute which may be quickly and easily mounted outside the coin delivery machine.
Another object of this invention is to provide a coin delivery unit with flexible walls which permit of variable positioning and which is connected wholly outside of the coin delivery machine to which it is connected.
A further object of this invention is to provide a coin delivery unit with flexible walls which permit variable positioning of the coin delivery cup and in which all the parts are mounted as a unit outside the coin delivery machine.
Further objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent as the following description proceeds and the features of novelty which characterize this invention will be pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming part of this specification.
A preferred embodiment of the invention isv shown in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is aside view, partly in section, of the improved coin delivery chute;
Figure 2 is a plan view taken on the line 2 2 of Figure 1 showing in dotted views the coin delivery chute swung into diiierent positions;
Figure 3 is a view of the mounting plate takenv substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a bottom view of connection bietween the exible walls and thek spouttaken on the line 4 4 of Figure 1;
Figure 5 is a cross-section View of the exible walls and the spout walls taken on the line 5 5 of Figure 1; and
Figure 6 is a side View of one of the flexible walls.
Referring to Figures 1, 2 and 3 there is shown a mounting plate II adapted to be secured to the exterior of a coin delivery machine (not shown). The mounting plate II has a rectangular opening I2 therethrough which registers with a similar coin delivery opening (not shown) in the -coin delivery machine. The coin delivery openings in these coin delivery machines are of standard design and need not be shown.. The means for securing the mounting plate II to the coin delivery machine are also standard and are shown in Figure 3. These means consist of three mounting members, usually screws, extending from the coin delivery machine over which the mounting plate l I is hooked. A pair of open ended cut outs I3 at the bottom of mounting plate I I nt over the Shanks of two of the screws. A third out out I4 is provided for also engaging the shank of a mounting screw and the enlarged portion I5 of cut out I4 permits passage of the head of the mounting screw through the mounting plate Il. The heads I6 of the mounting screws` are shown in Figure 3.
The mounting plate II has a face I'l abutting the coin delivery machine and an outer face I8. A supporting bracket I9 is mounted on the outer` face I8 by means of screws 20. Supporting bracket I9 is located beneath opening I2 in mounting plate I I. A pair of vertical ears 2| bound the vertical sides of rectangular opening I2. A hood 22 is also mounted on the outer face I 8 of mounting plate II and is secured to plate l I by means of screws 23.
In the regular -construction of a coin delivery machine a portion of the coin delivery chute in the machine extends outside of the machine through the coin delivery opening. The base portion 24 of the extended end of the machine chute is shown in Figure 1. A coin .25 being delivered is also shown just before it leaves the machine chute. The coin rolls down the chute in this type of machine.
Referring back to the machine constituting thisv invention, the coin delivery chute is shown having a exible chute section 26 and a spout section 2'I. Chute section 26 and spout section 2.1 have a single base member 28. Base member 28 has a rounded disc portion 29 and an elongated sloping portion30. A threaded stud 3l is secured to the bottom side of rounded disc portion' 29. Stud 3| is located in the center yoi disc portion 29. Stud 3l also extends through hole 32 in bracket I9 thereby pivotally mounting base member 28 on bracket I9. A wing nut 33 on threaded stud 3| cooperates with a look washer 34 to clamp base member 28 in a xed position.
The spout section 21 has a pair of sheet metal wall members 435. These wall members 35 are secured to sloping portion 3! of base `member 28 by means of screws 35a. A portion of the top edge of each wall member 35 is bent over to form a downwardly extending flap 36. This downwardly extending flap 36 is parallel to the vadjacent wall and is spaced from the wall to form a slot-like guideway 31. A portion of .the 'bottom edge of each wall member 35 is crimped at 38 so as to form a wall 3S spaced from the base member 28. The wall 39 and base member'ZS form therebetween a slotted passageway 4%.
The exible chute section 26 consists of a pair of .ilexible .sheet metal walls lil. Each flexible wall 4l .is 'clamped in 'position `against between an ear '21 and a clamping strip i2 by .means of screws 43. The bottom edge .dll of flexible wall 4"! vfollows in general Athe contour of base member 28. Thus bottom .edge .lili has .a horizontal run 45, which lies adjacent disc portion .28, and a sloping run i6 which lies adjacent `sloping portion '30. Extending downward from the lower edge 4d of .the extended lend of flexible wall Al is a lingerV or flap '41. .Finger d1 is inserted into slotted `passageway .40 to serve as a means for restraining the ,ilexible wall 'di against the ,correspending spout wall. ,The top sloping edge d8 of exible wall '41 is inserted in `guideway s1. There ila-p 3.6 alsorestrains 'flexible wall il .against the correspondingspout wall. 'The crimped sections 3'8"bounding.slotted passageway lll also serve to limit 'the motion of Zthe flexible vwall di relative to the spout walls '35.

It will be .apprecia'ted that as the ilexible wallsjlil are bent, one wall lll will move in one direction relative toits adjacent spout wall 3 5 while the other wall 'M moves in the opposite direction relative to 'its adjacent spout wal1'35.

A coin delivery chute Ifor ,use with ,a A`coin delivery maliinelhaving .a i coindelivery. opening therein,.said .coin {deliver-y chute comprising `.a mounting plateadapted `,tube.secured .to the exte'rior onsaid machine, saidmountingplatehaving an opening therethrough adapted to register with said coin delivery opening, a bracket secured to said mounting plate, a spout pivotally mounted on said bracket, said spout comprising a base section and a pair of upright wall sections, a downwardly extending restraining member secured to the top edge of each wall section and extending parallel to ythe adjacent wall section in closely spaced relation to form a slot-like guideway therebetween, a portion of the lower edge of each wall section being spaced from the base section to .form therebetween a slotted passageway, flexible strips secured at one end to said mounting plate and ladjacent `the opening therethrough, said flexible strips entering the slot-like guideways Where they are positioned adjacent the upright Vwall sections, each -said flexible strip having a downwardly extending linger at the lower edge positioned in the slottedlpassageways for further positioning the strips adjacent the upright walls, and the ends of each slotted passageway adapted to .engage lsaid downwardly extending finger to limit the :pivoting ofsaid spout.
2. A .coin delivery Achute for use with a coin delivery machine having a coin delivery opening therein, said coin delivery chute comprising a mounting plate adapted to be secured to the exterior of said machine, said mounting plate having an opening therethrough adapted to register with said coin delivery opening, a bracket secured to said mounting plate, a spout pivotally mounted on said bracket, said spout comprising a base section and a pair of upright wall sections, a portion of the top edge of each wall section being bent over to a position parallel with the adjacent wall section and spaced therefrom to form a slot-like guideway therebetween, a portion of the lower edge ofeachwall section being spaced from the base section to form therebetween a slotted passageway, ilexible strips secured at one end to said mounting plateand adjacent the openingtherethrough, said flexible strips entering the slot-'like guideways where they are positioned adjacent ,the upright wall sections, and each said flexible ,strip 'having a =downwardly extending nger'atthe lower edge positioned'in the slotted passageways `for'further securing thestrips adjacent the upright walls, eachsaid slotted passageway having 'length .providing for the range of relative longitudinal motion of the'nger therein during thepivoting of said spout.
3. A coin delivery chute for use with a coin delivery machinehavingga coin delivery opening therein, said ,coin .delivery chute comprising a mountingplate adapted to be secured to the exteriorof said machine, said mountingplate having an opening therethrough adapted to register with saidcoin delivery opening, a bracket secured to said" mounting plate, ,a spout pivotally mounted on Asaid bracket, said spout comprising a base section and .a pair or" upright wall sections, a portion of the lower 4vedge of each wall section being spaced from the base section to form therebetween a slotted passageway, flexible strips secured. at one end to said mounting plate ata point adjacent the opening therethrough, guide means mounted von said upright walls for receiving the extendedends o f said ilexible strips to position said flexible strips .adjacent vthe rupright walls, and eachsaid'exible striphaving a downwardly extending .nger at the lower edge positioned in the vslotted yjpassageways lfor ,further positioning the strips nadjacent the uprightextending walls.
4.
