UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS H. OHUBB, OF POST MILLS, VERMONT.
TIE-GUIDE FOR FISHING-RODS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No, 263,484, dated August 29, 1882.
Application filed May 24, 1882. (No model.)
Improvement in Tie-Guides for Fishing-Rods,
of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference isto he had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in
[0 Which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of iny improvement shown as applied to a fishing-rod. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the improvement. Fig. 3
is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 4 is aplan view of a blank guide before shape.
The object of this invention is to facilitate and cheapen the construction of the guides for being bent into fishing-rods.
The nature of this invention consists of a guide, cylindrical in cross-section at its middle, and constructed of a piece of metal, having pointed ends, inclined side edges leading inward from thebases of said points, and
curved recesses between the inner ends of the inclined side edges and the bases of the points, substantially as hereinafter morefully setforth.
A represents a part of anordinary fishing- 0 rod, and B represents a part of a fishing-line.
O is a tie-guide through which the line B passes, and which is secured to the rod A by cords or wire D, wound around the rod A and the points of the guide C, or by ferrules or bands slipped upon the red A over the points of the guide 0.
The guideblank C is cut from sheet metal in about the shape shownin Fig.4, with points 1, inclined side edges, 2, leading inward from the bases of the points 1, and curved recesses 3 between the inner ends of the inclined side edges 2 and the bases of the points 1 The blank G is then bent around a form into the shape shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3.
By this construction strong, durable, neat, and light guides are produced, and at a inuch less expense than when made in the ordinary manner. I
The adjacent inclined edges of the body or tubular part of the guide 0, shown in Fig. 3, can be left free, or can be soldered together, as may be desired.
Having thus fully described my invention,I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The tie-guide for fishing-rods, cylindrical in cross-section at its middle, and constructed of the piece of metal 0, having pointed ends 1, inclined side edges2 leading inward from the bases of said points, and curved recesses 3 between the inner endsof the inclined side edges and the bases of the points, substantially as described.
