GEORGE W. ROBBURTS, OF ELMO, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JOHN E. POLK, OF SAME PLAOE.
BALlNG-PRESS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 263,431, dated August 29, 1882.
Application filed July 12, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. ROBBURTS, of Elmo, in the county of Kaufman and State of Texas, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Baling-Presses; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription of the invention, which will enable others skilled in thd art to which it appertains to make and use the same, refer- 1o ence being had to the accompanying drawings,
which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to baling-presses for cotton and the like; and it consists in certain improvements in the construction and opera- I 5 tion of the same.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved press Fig. 2, a vertical sectional view thereof; Fig. 3, a horizontal sectional view on the line at m, Fig. 2; and Fig. 4,
a vertical transverse sectional view on the line y 1/, Fig. 2.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A designates the frame, which comprises the baseblock B, vertical side pieces, 0 O, and transverse toppiece, D. On the latter are arranged two brackets or hangers, E E, to each of which is pivoted a downwardly-extending arm, F,
" pivoted at its lower end between the side plates,
G G, of an elbow-block, H.
0 I I are corresponding arms pivoted to the plates G G, the same as arms F F, and extendin gdownwardly, theirlower ends beingpivoted between straps J J, arranged in pairs, one near each end of the follower K.
5 To one of the elbow-blocks H are pivoted two pairs of in weirdly-extendingstraps or links, L L, with their free ends embracing and pivoted to the extreme inner ends, M M, of two lateral] y-proj ectin g levers, NN The latter are 0 each provided at their ends M with a series of perforations, O, and are pivoted on pins 1? P, projecting from two horizontal guide crosspieces, Q Q, supported on uprights O O.
In perforations 0 outside of straps L are 5 pivoted by a pin or bolt, It, corresponding pairs of straps or links, S S, each pair being pivoted to a lateral extension, T, on elbowblock H.
The operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood. By operating levers N N the elbow-blocks H H are thrown outwardlywith the arms F F and I I, thus raising the follower K. By moving the levers in the opposite direction the elbow-blocks are brought together and the arms I I caused to depress the follower to compress the bale.
The apparatus is simple, powerful, inexpensive, and easily operated.
I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- .60
1. The combination, with the shoulder-blocks H H, carrying the pivoted arms, the former block having pivoted straps or links S S, pivoted in pairs to lateral extensions T, and the latter having like pairs of straps or links, L L, 6 pivoted direct to block H, of the pivotedlevers N N, having straps LLpivoted to their extreme weight ends and straps S S on the opposite side of their fulcrum, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with the frame having 79 the base-block B and top piece, I), of the piv oted arms F F and l I, the latter carrying and pivoted to the follower, the elbow-blocks H H, carrying respectively links or straps S S and L L, and the laterally-extending pivoted le- Vers N N, having the said links pivoted thereto, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination, with the frame comprising base-block B, uprights O O, and top piece, D, and cross-pieces Q Q, of arms F F, 80 pivoted to brackets or hangers on the top piece, arms I I, pivoted to hangers on the follower, elbow-blocks H H, the former having extension T, to which two pairs of straps or links,
S S, are pivoted, and the latter havingpivoted straps or links LL, and the laterally-projecting levers N N, pivoted to pieces Q Q, and having links S S and L L pivoted thereto, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as 0 my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE WV. ROBBURTS.
