UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARCUS O. HALL, OF HALLSVILLE, TEXAS, ASSIGNOB TO DELLA J. HALL, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT lN BALlNG-PRESSES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 218,525, dated August 12, 1879 application filed June 4, 1879.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that'I, MARCUS O. HALL, of Hallsville, in the county of Harrison and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Baling-Presses; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a view, in perspective, of a baling-press embodying the improvements in my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a detail view of the lower end of the lover I.
This invention relates to baling-presses; and consists in the improvement in the construction of the same, hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the base of the press, from which rise the uprights B B B, and upon which the bale-chamber O and press-box D are built.
The bale-chamber G is of any ordinary construction; but I preferably make it with removable sides a a, held in place by clamps b b and cleats c c, secured to said sides a a, the lower ends of said cleats c a resting in recesses d d in the base A.
Frames E E, connected to the uprights B B, strengthen the press-box D.
A double lever, F F, is fulcrumed on a shaft running through the uprights B B B near their upper ends, the upright B separating the bars of said double lever F F.
A follower, G, is suspended by pivoted or hinged hangers H from the forward end of the double lever F F, so that the follower may be swung away from the mouth of the press-box D to admit the material to be baled to the press-box.
From the opposite end of the double lever F F depends a swinging arm, I, carrying two friction-rollers, J J, and two pulleys, K K.
At the rear end of the base A is mounted a vertical pulley, L, on a shaft having bearings in blocks M M, each carrying a horizontal pulley, N.
A cord, 0, connected to the shaft of the vertical pulley L, passes over the pulley K, back to and around the pulley L, forward to and around the pulley K, and back between and beyond the horizontal pulleys N N.
A bolt, P, held in place by guards Q Q, is slipped into a recess, It, in the face of the base A when the swinging arm I is perpendicular.
A pin, S, holds the bolt P out of the recess until it is required to be inserted in the recess to hold the arm I in place.
The follower G and the bottom of the balechamber are grooved to permit the introduction of the bale-ties.
To operate the press it is only necessary to apply the power to the cord 0 and draw the arm I to a vertical position, which depresses the follower G and forces the material to be baled into the bale-chamber.
When the swinging arm I has reached a vertical position the bolt P should be slipped into the recess R to retain the arm I in position until the bands or ties have been placed upon the bale.
This is a cheap, simple, and durable press, and one which can be built upon the farm, obviating the necessity of purchase and shipment from the factory.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
I. In a baling-press, the double lever F F, having the swinging follower Gr H, in combination with the swinging arm I, carrying the friction-rollers J J and pulleys K K, and the base A, having blocks M M, horizontal pulleysN N, vertical pulley L, and the cord 0, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a baling-press, the double lever F F, having the swinging arm I, carrying frictionrollers J J and pulleys K K, in combination with the bolt P and the base A, having the
