(01. lei-+379) -This invention relates to a Printing Stamp, type member bearing a relief numeral character and more particularlypertains to a hand stamp surrounded by a relief ring design; with aresilienttype member which may be selec- Fig. 5 shows the printing end of astamp like tively deformed, by adjustmentof a cooperating that of Fig. 1 with a deforming device like that element, so the deformedgprintmade' by the type 5 of Fig. 2 attached; member represents predetermined data such as a Fig.6 shows the printing end of a stamp like time, quantity, group number, order and the like. that of Fig. 1 with a deforming device like that The'device is particularly adapted for use with of Fig. 3 attached;

stores. In addition to the price, which may be Fig. 8 is a section of the printing end of the eiipressedin ordinary decimal numerical notastamp of Fig. 6 onthe line 88 thereof; tion in raised type, there is provided a design, Fig. 9 is an elevation of the stamp of Fig. 1 such as a ring, which may be deformed by forcwith the deforming device of Fig. 2 mounted ing it or out at the desired location. 5 thereon;
y In general, the preferred embodiment of the Fig. '10 is a top plan view of the substance of invention includes a'shaft-like handle with an ink impregnate'd porousprinting member made Fig. 11 shows the print made by the stamp of of resilient,'rubbery'material and a thimble-like Fig. 9 with a diagram wi g, of Various capimounted onthe handle with the type mem- 0 other positions in which the deformation may ber" projecting outwardly through a deformed be selectively made to represent hours or months; hole in the cap. The hole in the cap is of such d size that the peripheral portion of the printing Fig- 12 is a perspective view of the deformmember is forced to fit the deformities of the ing device of Fig n 1 26 The preferred embodiment of the invention Therefore, it is an object of this invention to consists of a wooden handle having a shaft P provide a printing t having a resilient type t1on (Fig. 1) of cylindrical shape except for member, with means to selectively deform the the pr i d 2| which is a truncated cone normal contour of th type member, with the truncated end bored to receive a por- It is a further object of the invention to pro- 0115 rubber yp member vide such a stamp in which the deforming means A typ cal type member (Fig. looked t from is so mounted on the stamp that it may be adthe printing Surface, has a numeral design 23.
. justed, while still on the stamp, to any selected in relief. ded by a ring design in one of a number of positions each giving a charfacteristic deformity at a different location on Referring to Figs. 2, 5, 7, 9, 10 and 12, a the type member. thimble-like shaped member having a conical With these and incidental objects in View, the Skirt p o With beading around the invention includes certain novel features of conlar er end, ha the Smaller end s d pt struction and combinations of parts, a preferred for e fl nged Op g 21. The thimble is of form or mb di t of hi h i hereinafter such dimensions as to fit over the conical end described with reference to the drawing which 2| 0f the handle, e pe 21 permitting D accompanies and forms a part of this specificae e u h f yp member 22 W t 5 mm. squeeze fit. The top 34 (Fig. of the handle may have the numerical data 35 printed thereon to correspond with that in the type member associated therewith and oriented so as to aid the user in using the stamp so the print will be right side up.
In the modified form of the invention the thimble-like member is formed as-in Fig. 3, with the deforming contour 35 projecting outwardly to give the ring of the type 22 (Fig. 6) an outward bulge.
The thimble-like member is rotated so the mark 32 is lined up with the desired position mark 33 and, as so adjusted, the device is used as a hand stamp. When it is desired-tha't-the deformation appear at anotherplacathe'thimblelike member is rotated to the new positionwithout removing it from the handle.
It will be evident thaat more than onedeformation may be made in the flange of the thimblelike member, if desired.
Although the preferred embodiment shows the invention are incorporated in or comprising a hand stamp, it is evident'that the principle is not confined to hand operation, the type member and deformer, obviously, being subject to operation by machine, as well. Moreover,'the circular design of the deformable portion of the type member is not to be deemed as a limiting factor as, for instance, a polygonal design may do as well.
Whilethe. form of the deviceherein shown and described-is admirably'adapted. to fulfill the ob- :iectsi primarily, stated, it is to" be understood that it isnotintended" to confine the invention to the one form or embodiment herein disclosed, forit is susceptible of embodiment in various other forms.
What is claimed is:
1. In ahand stamp, in combination, ahandle; aresili'ent type member mounted on the handle;
sponding point.
3. The device of claim 2 in which the thimblelike member is rotatable on the handle to permit the, deformation of'the circular type-design to be made at a selected point on the circle.
4. Inahand stamp, in combination, a resilient type member having on the printing surface thereof a raised numeral design surrounded by a raised circular design; and a deforming member having a deformed circular hole through :which the type member projects, theedgaofsaidchole being in squeeze contact withthe. outersurface of the circular design: so the circulardesigntwill bedeformed to 4 correspond 'to the deformationof the hole.
