Unrrnn STATES PATENT @rricn,
EVIN E. DAVIS, OF TAMA CITY, IOWA.
WATER-FOUNTAIN FOR sTooK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 263,323, dated August 29, 1882.
Application filed August 23, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EVIN E. DAVIS, of Taina City, county of Tama, and State of Iowa, have -in vented a Water-Fountain for Stock,of which 5 the following is a description.
The objectof this invention is to utilize the water in mole or blind ditches by conveying it to proper drinking-receptacles within the reach of stock.
The figure represents a side view of the apparatus, partly in section, and in proper relation for operation to the mole or blind ditch.
It is customary to run mole or blind ditches upgrade, and the water which they collect i5 naturally runs to the lowest point in them.
At this lowest point I apply my fountain, and, as its dischargespout is lower than some point in the ditch, when a sufiicient amount of water has accumulated in the ditch it will run 20 from the spout into the drinking-receptacle.
My fountain consists of a log, A, closed at one end and having a bore, H. This log is driven into the ditch, which is represented by Gr. Pipe B, coupling 0, and spout D connect the logAwith thedrinking-receptacle F,which is on the surface I of the ground. The pipe, coupling, and spout may be galvanized iron tubing.
The operation is as follows: The water collected by the ditch gradually accumulates at the fountain, which, as before stated, is at the lowest point in it. As it continues to accumulate it will back up in the ditch until its surface is on a level with the spout D, when it will run into the receptacle F, as shown by the arrow E.
That I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the log A, pipe B, coupling G, and spout D, substantially as de- 40 scribed.
EVIN E. DAVIS.
