PATRICK J: CHLLAN Patented Mar. 31, 1953 UNITED STATE S PATENT OFFICE This invention relates to a building wall construction and more particularly forms for groovingthe interior and exterior faces thereof at the time the walls are formed.
It is an object of the present invention to provide with concrete wall forms beading whereby to provide indented grooves in the wall faces as the wall is formed and these grooves form simulated moulding defining areas to which wallpaper may be expeditiously applied and trimmed in the grooves, as well as to have a decorative appearance in serving to set 01f on the wall area door and window openings and top and bottom moldings.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a decorative wall which is of simple construction, easy to form with wall forms, eliminates the necessity of molding boards and window and door frame pieces, has rounded internal and external corners, easy to maintain and has pleasing appearance.
For other objects and for a better understand- 7 ing of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is 'a fragmentary view of an internal wall construction formed according to the present invention with decorative grooves and with internal and external rounded corners.

Fig. 6 is a fragmentary view of a wall being covered with paper extending from its top groove.
Referring now to the figures, [0 represents a floor on which is supported an interior wall II and an exterior wall l2. Both of these walls are formed of concrete with an insulating member [3 embedded in them. The wall surfaces are smooth concrete except for indented grooves provided therein according to the present invention.
For forming the wall surfaces, there are provided forms, one of which is shown in Fig. 2 as indicated at M, which is of sheet material and which has backing irons 1'5 and P6.
In order to provide a better appearing sur- 2 face and to break up the monotony of a smooth surface, there is provided on the wall form l4, beads i1, l8 and 19, and 20. The beads "and I8 extend horizontally and form respectively upper and lower molding grooves 21 and 22 between which wall paper 2 3, Fig. 6, may be extended while leaving surface areas 2-4 and 25 above and below the respective grooves which may be coated with paint or provided with paper or molding.
The beads I! are formed of strips of triangular section as shown in Fig. 4 and are secured to the wall by screws 256 extending from the outside of the wall form through to the inner side and threaded into the beads. The headings l8, l9 and 26 are similarly secured to the molding form [4. In Fig. 5, there is shown a'different type of molding bead as indicated at 21 which is of angular section and is similarly retained by fastening screws 26.
The beading I9 is extended about a space forming the door opening in the wall as indicated at 29. An indented groove 3| will be provided about the door. The paper 23 can be extended to this groove and area 32 confined between the groove 3| and the opening can be painted or differently treated.
The bead 20 will provide a groove 3 1 surrounding a window opening 35 and providing a surface area .36 which can be treated differently than the main area of the wall and similar to the treatment which may have been applied to the area 32 about the door opening.
In Fig. 3, there is shown an exterior wall surface which may have parallel grooves 4| and a groove 42 surrounding a window opening 43. These grooves will extend throughout the full extent of the exterior of a building and give to the exterior an appearance resembling clap boards and will break up considerably the monotony of a plain wall surface. These grooves are formed similarly with beads disposed on the external wall forms.
It should now be apparent that there has been provided walls having grooves therein serving to give to the surface a more ornamental appearance, wherein these grooves are formed automatically as the wall is being formed between vertically extending wall forms and which grooves may also serve as trimming markers for Wallpaper applied thereto.
The internal wall face can also be rounded on both external and internal corners as indicated respectively at 44 and 45. The grooves 2| and .22 can continue about these corners.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
I claim:
A fiat-surfaced building wall of solid molded concrete provided with horizontally extending upper and lower indented grooves spaced respectively from the top and bottom of the wall and dividing the wall horizontally to simulate upper and lower molding strips above and below said grooves, said wall being provided withadoor opening formed therein and positioned beneath said upper groove, said wall being provided with an indented groove intersecting said lower groove and surrounding and spaced from the edges of said opening, the area between said last groove and said door opening simulating a door frame, all of said grooves refining confined areas of the wall .for the application of a covering such as wallpaper, said confined areas lying in the same plane as said simulated molding strips and said simulated door frame to facilitate the application and trimming of Wallpaper, and said grooves being formed during the molding operation of the concrete wall and all of said grooves being V- shaped in cross section.
