Description

UNITED STAMEENTQFFICE- s. H. TIFT, `or MoRRIsvILLn, vnRMonur.lp``
APPARATUS non ELEVATING waarna` i Specification of LettersPatent No. 26,305, dated November 29,1
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, SII. TIFT, of Morrisville, in the county of Lamoille and State of Vermont, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Apparatus for Elevating Water; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the anneXed drawing, forming part of this specifi? cation, in the several figures of which similar characters of reference denote the same part. s
Figure 1 is a plan view of the water elevator. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same on line m, x. Fig. 3, is a bottom view of one of the buckets with the trunnion attached. s
This invention has reference to the raising of water from reservoirs or wells, by means of an endless "band, a series of buckets and anotched, flanged wheel, they being constructed and combined in themanner hereinafter to be set forth.`
Its nature consists in having over the well, a wheel with flanges on each side, said flangesbeing notched at regular distances. This wheel has its bearings in a frame eX- tending down into the well, at the lower end of which frame isplaced a roller also 30` having its bearings init.4 Around this roller and wheel, and fitting between the flanges ofthe latter is an endless band composed of india rubber, gutta percha, or some similar substance, and to this band are attached the buckets by an axle or trunnion fastened to j the bottom of the buckets and` passing through eyes on each sideof the band, the ends of said trunnions resting in the notches of the flanges on the wheel.
The buckets are shaped as shown in Fig. 2 having` the rear of the top curved, so that as each bucket empties its contents `the curved rear ofthe preceding one serves as a chute to carry 0E the water into the trough or receiver.
In the drawingW, is the iianged wheel, s having notches n, in the iianges, and having .l ,l its bearings in frame F; R, is the .rollerwat the bottom of the frame, in the well; b, the s, l n s endless band passing around l wheel and" 150W roller; B, the buckets attached tothe band` ,s by trunnions T, fastened to thejbottom of them, passing througheyes on each side of V the band, and restinginthe `notches n, of` t the ianged wheel D, isz the receiving55` trough into which `the buckets empty` theirli` contents. f f H .The power is appliedto shaft of wheel W, s and by its revolution, thatlof band byand s buckets B, is produced fthe buckets lling with water from` the `well ,andfwhenftheyd f l descend, discharge theirfcontents into; the receiver D, and through itsspout. s The buckets being constructed as de-` scribed with the curved rear, each one serves" 6,5
- as chute or guide for the contents of thefolf lowing one to fall lover into the receiver. j ,j And also the buckets being fastened to the N band by the trunnionspassingthroughfeyes {s} on it, and havingtheirfendsresting' inthe 170` notches in the f1an redwhee1, when; the, g f buckets come up zfiIleds with water `the .weight is thrown against the sides ofthe notches and thus prevents anystrain or drag z s on the band.` n @s f Having thus described jimyl improvement, y 1 Iclaim, y
The buckets, B, curvedat the rearas `de-` s s scribed, in combination withthetrunnions," l g T, band, I), notched, flanged wheel, roller, R, and frame,.`F, constructed and operating*` s f 1 substantially in the mannerand for theipurff" posesetforth-` is,
In testimony whereofI have `hereuntof` W signed my name before two subscribingwit-` s j:`
JOHN S. HoLnINGsHEAD.
