Patented Feb. 24, 1953 COVER FOR PLAYPEN PADS Alberta B. Moore, Valley Park, and Alvin B. Sloofman, Webster Groves, Mo., assignors to Harber Products Incorporated, St. Louis, Mo., a corporation of Missouri Application April 7, 1950, Serial No. 154,568
3 Claims.
The present invention relates generally to removable covers, and more particularly to a removable sanitary cover for an infants playpen pad.
Briefly, the present novel playpen pad cover includes an upper covering panel and a lower flange panel which are joined at the outer edges, the latter being cut away at the corners to permit pad tie-straps to extend through for securement to the playpen. The cover is made of material impervious to moisture.
An object of the present invention is to provide a novel playpen pad cover which is readily applied to and removed from a pad, and which cannot be pulled off by an infant occupying the pen.
Another object is to provide a novel playpen pad cover which incorporates means for ready use of the standard tie-straps of a pad covered thereby.
Other objects are to provide a novel playpen pad cover which is sanitary, inexpensive, and of pleasing appearance, and which is of rugged construction.
The foregoing and other objects and advantages are apparent from the following description taken with the accompanying drawing; in which:
Fig. 1 isa top plan view of a playpen pad cover constructed, in accordance with the teachings of the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view thereof;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross-sectional view on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is an enlarged cross-sectional view on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2, elements beyond the section line being eliminated for greater clarity of detail; and
Fig. 5 is a bottom plan view of a cover applied to a playpen pad.
Referring to the drawing more particularly by reference numerals, [0 indicates generally a playpen pad cover incorporating the concepts of the present invention. The cover It] includes an upper panel l2, preferably a single piece of plastic material, and a lower flange panel 14 shown as four strips of plastic material connected at contiguous overlapping ends by internally disposed binder strips l6 and seams I8 (Fig. 4).
The outer edges of the panels l2 and M are engaged by binder strips 20 and are secured by a seam 22. The flange panels I4 are cut away at the outer corners, being edged by binder strips 24 to provide openings 26 through which pad tie-straps may extend. Binder straps 28 are secured to the inner edges of the flange panels H by a seam 30 to define a central opening 32.
In Fig. 5, the cover In is illustrated applied to a playpen pad 34, the tie-straps 36 of which extend through the openings 26 for attachment to a playpen.
Manifestly, it is a simple matter to place the pad 34 within the cover ID, or vice versa, as choice dictates, and to separate the two. With the opening 32 of the cover In downwardly, the pad 34 is fully protected against wetting. An infant cannot reach the inner edges of the flange panels l4, and, in fact, will not be attracted to the task of removing the cover l0, since from above the pad 34 appears fully wrapped.
The tie-straps 36 extend from beneath the corners of the upper panel l2, so that even the corners of the pad 34 are fully protected.
It is manifest that there has been provided a playpen pad cover which fulfills the objects and advantages sought therefor.
It is to be understood that the foregoing description and the accompanying drawing have been given by way of illustration and example. It is also to be understood that changes in form of the elements, rearrangement of parts, and substitution of equivalent elements, which will be obvious to those skilled in the art, are contemplated as within the scope of the present invention which is limited only by the claims which follow.
What is claimed is:
1. A playpen pad cover comprising an upper panel, a lower panel, said panels being joined along the outer edges, an opening in said lower panel for the reception of a pad, and spaced openings in said lower panel at the juncture of said two panels for the extension therethrough of pad tieestraps.
2. A playpen pad cover comprising an upper panel of plastic material impervious to liquids. a lower panel, said panels being joined along the outer edges, an opening in said lower panel for the reception of a pad, and spaced openings in said lower panel at the juncture of said two panels for the extension therethrough of pad tie-straps.
3. A playpen pad cover comprising a polygonally shaped upper panel, a lower panel havmg a polygonally shaped perimeter, said lower panel having twice as many peripheral sides as said upper panel, and means securing each peripheral side of said upper panel to a respective alternate peripheral side of said lower panel whereby to leave spaced triangular openings be- 3 4 tween the unsecured peripheral sides of the lower REFERENCES CITED panel and the corner angles of the upper panel The following references are of record in the said lower panel having an opening therethrough file of this patent:
