CLASP FOR BLOUSES Filed July 2, 1951 nvmvrozas IRENE M. mvmry y JOHN H. BIRD ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 17, 1953 CLASP FOR BLOUSES Irene Ilaverty, Philadelphia, and John H. Bird, Ambler, Pa.; said Bird assignor to said Laverty.
. Application July 2, 1951, Serial No. 234,8 l
This invention relates vto clasps for blouses and more particularly to a clasp for holding the lower extremities of a blouse in position within the waistband of a skirt and preventing displaceup any appreciable space, is flexible so as to con-- 1 form to the body of the wearer, and requires only a simple manipulation for attachment.
Other objects and advantageous features of the invention will be apparent from the specification and claims.
The nature and characteristic features of the invention will be more readily understood from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, in which:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of the waistband portion of a skirt showing a plurality of clasps in accordance with the invention attached thereto;
Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of the clasp;
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken approximately on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a view in elevation showing the gripping of a portion of a blouse with the clasp;
Fig. 5 is a horizontal sectional view taken approximately on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4;
Fig. 6 is a view in elevation showing the gripped portion of the blouse in its relation to the waistband of the skirt;
Fig. '7 is a horizontal sectional view taken approximately on the line l| of Fig. 6; and
Fig. 8 is a view in perspective of a modified form of the clasp.
It should, of course, be understood that the description and drawings herein are illustrative merely, and that various modifications and. changes may be made in the structure disclosed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Like numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, a portion of a skirt is shown at I0, having a waistband II, and a side placket l2 which may be along one of the side seams of the skirt III,
a claims. (01. 24-733 with a separable'slide fastener I3 along the edges of the placket I2 for closing the same;
The clasp I4, in accordance with the invention preferably includes a body portion I5, made of any suitable light weight flexible sheet material, transparent cellulose acetate of a thickness of the order of 0.020 inch being satisfactory.
As shown in Figs. 1 to 7, inclusive, the clasp body I5 is substantially rectangular in shapaand for a specific size of clasp may be about three and one half inches long by about one inch in height. The clasp body I5 is provided, inwardly from each end, with T-shaped slots I6, forengagement with spaced buttons I'I, sewed or otherwise secured to the inner face of the waistband II, at the desired spacing, which for the specific size of clasp referred to above will be of the order of two and three quarter inches apart, and located on the back portion of the waistband II about two inches from the side seams of the skirt It.
At the midportio-n of the clasp body I5, a pair of spaced horizontal slits I8 are provided, these preferably being incisions or cuts made through the body I5 without removing any material from the body I5. The incisions or slits I8, for the specific size of clasp referred to above, are preferably about one inch each in length and are shaped apart about inch. The slits I8, intermediate their ends are connected by a vertical incision or slit I9, similar in character to the slits I8, thus providing a pair of resilient tongues 20 which are separable along the vertical slit I9 and the ends Illa of which are adapted for gripping, as hereinafter explained.
The clasp I la shown in Fig. 8, has similar incisions or slits I8 and I9, in the body I5a thereof, providing tongues 20, as before, but in place of the pair of T-shaped slots I6, a single slot I6a is provided, below the slits I8 and I9, for detachably securing the clasp 14a to a button H.
In use, after the buttons I! have been sewed to the inner'face of the waistband II, a crease 2| is pinched in the back of a blouse 2 2 to be anchored, at the waist line, and, for the dimensions referred to above, about three inches to the rear of the side seams (not shown) on each side of the blouse. The tongues 20 are then first pressed outwardly, that is to say towards the place where the waistband II will be, to grip the crease 2|, and then pressed inwardly to engage and hold the crease 2|.
The blouse may then be put on by the user, and before the placket I2 is closed by the sepa- 3 rable fastener 13, the slots ii are hooked over the outside edges of the buttons l1.
The blouse will then be firmly anchored in position with respect to the skirt l0, will not become dislodged upon movement of the wearer, and will continuously present a more attractive appearance that if not so anchored.
If it is desired to release the blouse 22 from its anchore'tl relaitiohtb the skirt [0, the button or buttons I! are tilted and separated from "the T- slots I6 or Ilia and the clasp M or [4a maybe left attached to the blouse 22 until it is to be used again.
We claim:
1. A clasp for securinga-blouse to "the Waistband of a skirt comprising atlii'n'flat stiff resilient body portion having means fordetachably securing said body portion to the skirt, said bod'y portion having a pair of spaced incisions of'equal length and an incision connecting the midportions of said spaced "incisions to provide a pair of -resilien'-t tongues meeting at the :.connecting incision for the reception of a portion of the blouse therebetween, the sid'e marginal edges of the tongues in normal 'nonegrippin'g position beingbozitiguous t'o the corresponding-edges-of the body-portion and-the end marginaledgesof the tongue's being' conti'guous to eachother.
'A'clasp for securing *a blou'se'toth'e waistband of a skirt 1 comprising a thin fiat stifi re- *sili'ent body portionhavin'g'means fordetachably securing said body-:portionto the-skirt, said body portion ha-ving a (pair of spaced-parallel horizontally disposed incisions of equallengthand a vertical incision connecting the midportions of -said-spaeed incisions totprovidea pair of resilient silient gripping tongues having facing gripping edges, the side marginal edges of the tongue in h'ormalnon-gripping position being contiguous to the oorresp'ondin'g edges of the body portion and the end marginal edges of the tongues being contiguous 'to each other.
