2 Claims. 1
This invention relates to cotton spinning machines and more particularly to a new and novel cleaner for the spindle operating tapes of the machines.
One of the objects of this invention resides in the provision of means whereby all of the tapes are simultaneously cleaned in a single operation with little eifort on the part of the cotton spinning machine attendant.
Another object of this invention resides in the provision of a cleaner for the spindle rotating tapes of cotton spinning machines which is readily attached to the machines with little or no alteration thereof.
A further object of this invention resides in the particular assemblage elements comprising the tape cleaner.
A still further object of this invention resides in the particular construction of the operating bar carrying the cleaning heads.
Aside from the aforesaid objects, this invention resides in the particular manner of securing the cleaning heads to the operating bar thereof.
Among the many objects of this invention is the particular construction of the cleaning heads.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in certain novel features of con struction and arrangement of elements to be hereinafter more particularly set forth in the specification, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims and, although this disclosure depicts my present conception of the invention, the right is reserved to resort to such departures therefrom as come within the scope of the claims.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application:
Fig. 1 is a portion of a cotton spinning machine showing the tape cleaner attached thereto with the cleaning heads disposed in inoperative position relative to the spindle operating tapes of the machine.
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the cleaning heads disposed in operating position against the tapes.
Fig. 3 is a front view of the cotton spinning machine with the tape cleaner disposed in inoperative position.
Fig. 4 is a similar view of the cotton spinning machine with the tape cleaning heads disposed in operative position against the tapes.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged cross sectional view taken approximately on line 5-5 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 6 is a detail perspective view of the operating bar of the tape cleaner.
Fig. '7 is a similar view of one of the supporting brackets of the operating bar.
Fig. 8 is a perspective view of one of the tape cleaning heads. 7
Fig. 9 is a similar view of one of the supporting brackets connecting the cleaning heads to the operating bar thereof.
In the present illustration of this invention the letter A designates a portion of a cotton spinning machine which, among other well known elements, consists of a frame B, cylinder C and a plurality of spindles D driven by tapes or belts E adjacent which is secured a tape cleaner herein designated in general, by the numeral 5.
The aforesaid tape cleaner comprises an elongated operating bar 6 which is slidably secured to the frame B by upstanding brackets I and provided with a suitable handle 8 at their upper ends to slidably support the aforesaid operating bar and, in order to retain the bar in said guide way and also permit it to be easily removed therefrom, a bolt 9 is extended across the guide way above the upper edge of the bar.
Adjustably secured to the operating bar 6 adjacent each tape, as by brackets It), is a cleaning head H formed of rubber or other suitable material. Said cleaning heads are of substantially rectangular configuration provided with cut out areas l2 on those edges thereof opposed to the tapes and ribs IS on their opposite edges against which companion members l4 and I5 of the brackets ID are clamped by screws IE or the like which secure them to the operating bar.
Through the instrumentality of the aforesaid elements assembled on a cotton spinning machine with the cleaning heads disposed in opposed relation to the spindle operating tapes, it is apparent that all the tapes are simultaneously cleaned by a single operator when manipulating the operating bar with the cleaning heads thereon toward the tapes and, when they have been cleaned to his satisfaction, he simply slides the operating bar in reverse direction to release contact of the cleaning heads from the tapes.
With thisinvention fully set forth, it is manifest that means are provided for efficiently performing the functions of their adoption and. through the provision ofsimultaneously cleaning several or all the tapes ina single operation by an attendant of the machine, work of several men is dispensed with.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination with a cotton spinning machine inoluding a frame and plurality of tape driving spindles, upstanding brackets secured to the frame of the cotton spinning machine and having aligned guide ways therein, an elongated operating bar slidably mounted in the aforesaid guide ways, means removably securing the operating bar in said guide ways, a handle on the operating bar, brackets secured to the guide bar adjacent the tapes, rubber cleaning heads secured to the last mentioned brackets and having the base portions of cut out edges thereof closely disposed in opposed relation to the sides dle on one end of the operating bar, brackets 1 forming clamps mounted at selected points throughout the length of said/bar, rubber cleaning heads having cut out working edges, ribs formed on the cleaning heads disposed between the upper ends of the clamps, bolts extending through the clamps above and below the operating bar and adjustably securing the cleaning heads thereon, and guide brackets slidably supporting the operating bar.
