1 Claim. 1

My invention relates to improvements in traveling cases for toilet articles, and the like.

The primary object of my invention is to provide a traveling case especially designed for carrying compactly, in a small space, in separated, well protected, and readily accessible arrangement, a multiplicity of miniature toilet accessories, especially cosmetics and manicure implements, essential to the Well groomed woman when traveling.

Another object is to provide a traveling case for the above purposeswhich is well adapted for packing along with clothes, and the like, so as not to occupy too much room, or tear, or otherwise injure the articles with which it is packed.

"Still another object is to provide a case of the type and for the purposes above specified, which is inexpensive to manufacture, and strong and durable, while light in weight.

Other and subordinate objects, within the purview of my invention, together with the precise nature of my improvements will be readily understood when the succeeding description and claim are read with reference to the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification.

In said drawings:

Figure 1 is a view in perspective of my improved traveling case in a preferred embodiment thereof, the case being shown closed;

Figure 2 is a similar view of the case open;

Figure 3 is a view in transverse section taken on the line 33 of Figure 2 and drawn to a larger scale;

Figures 4, 5 and 6 are views in front elevation of the inner leaves, respectively;

Figure 7 is a view in perspective of the case open and with the leaves eliminated to more clearly show the structure of the lining, and

Figure 8 is an enlarged view in transverse sec tion taken on the line 8-8 of Figure 7.

Referring to the drawings by numerals, the traveling case of my invention is of the combined book and box type with an outer cover I of light flexible, water-proof material, such as waterrepellent poplin, and which is formed in one piece of rectangular shape embodying a central back, or bottom, forming section 2 extending between opposite sides of the piece, and rectangular cover leaves 3, A foldable toward each other into faceto-face relation on said section 2 to close the case, and also foldable away from each other to open the case into flat position.

A stiffener sheet 5 of any suitable material, such as commercial crinoline or the like, is suitably fixed to the inside face of the cover I, in a manner presently described, and completely covers said inside. face.

A lining. 6 of any inexpensive, water-proofed fabric, preferably, is imposed on the stiffener sheet 5 to completely cover the same. The linin 6 is formed with a pair of lining sections 1, 8 covering the cover leaves 3, 4, and a relatively narrower, intermediate, lining section 9 covering the back forming section 2 and to the longitudinal edges of which confronting longitudinal edges of the sections 1, 8 are stitched, as at H], II.

A pocket forming strip I2 of material. of the same type as the lining 6 extends over the lining section 8 comprising part of the cover leaf 4 and from the intermediate lining section 9 part-way to the front edge of the lining section 8 with one longitudinal edge secured to one longitudinal edge of the intermediate lining section 9 by the stitches I l. The strip I2 is pleated, and stitched as as l3, to the lining section 8 to form a series of pockets M for containing manicure articles, not shown.

A pocket forming strip l5 of the same material as the lining 6 extends over the lining section 1 comprising part of the cover leaf 3 and from the intermediate lining section 9 part-way to the opposite, or front, edge of said leaf 3 with one longitudinal edge secured to said section 9 by the stitches l0, said strip I5 forming a pocket for a wash cloth, or the like, not shown.

A band It of water-proofed material is folded upon itself over a stiffener strip I1 and extended around the edges of the cover I on the inside of said cover and over the lining 6 and the side edges of the pocket forming strips [2, ill, with the usual zipper fastener tape l8 stitched, as at l8, to the folded edge of said band l6 and extending along the same for coaction with the usual slide l9, whereby the case may be closed with said band and tape folded and forming the sides and top of the case. The band I6 is secured in place by a binding tape 20 of suitable material extending around the edges of the cover I, stiffener sheet 5, lining 6, and across the side edges of the pocket forming strips l2, l5 with stitching 2| extended through said binding tape, the band Hi, the cover I and the stiffener sheet 5 and lining 6 and stiffener strip IT.

A plurality of rectangular inner leaves 22, 23, 24 of a water-proof, bendable, but comparatively rigid material, such as poplin, are provided to fit within. the confine of the band [6 with binding tape 25 stitched, as at 26, around the edges of the same. The leaves 22, 23, 24 have one longitudinal edge extending along the intermediate lining section 9 and stitched thereto through the back forming section 2 of the cover I, as at 22, 23', 24', so that said leaves may hinge on said section 2 and be swung readily away from each other, like the leaves of a book, when the case is opened. The leaves 22, 23, 24 are provided on one, and corresponding, faces thereof with strips 21, 28, 29 stitched thereto, as at 30, and pleated to form pockets 3|, 32, 33 for cosmetics in cans, as at 34, or in cake form as at 35. Loops 30, 37, 38 are provided on the leaves 22, 23, 2 1 on the pocket sides of the same and at the edges thereof opposite the hinged edges for holding such articles as a lipstick 39, a toothbrush 2.0, and a comb 4|.

Loops 42 may be provided on the'lining's'ections 8 along the band 16 for holding Scissors Q3, and a manicure sheet 44.

The strips 27, 28, 29, the loops 3%, 37, 3t and the loops 42 are preferably formed of waterproofed strong fabric.

The foregoing will, it is believed, sufiice to impart a clear understanding of my invention without further explanation, since'the use'of the invention-will'be obvious from the description of the structural details.

Manifestly, the invention, as described, is susceptible ofmodification without departing from the inventive conceptandrightis herein reserved to such modifications as fall within the scope of theappended claim.

Having described the invention, what is claimed a new is:

A travelingcase for toilet articles comprising a rectangular cover of flexible material comprising a central back forming section extending from side. to side of the cover, and a pair of cover leavesifoldable on said section into spaced facing relation, a sheet of stiffener material covering said cover, a lining of flexible waterproof material covering said sheet and comprising a pair of sections covering said cover leaves and an intermediate separate section covering the back forming section and stitched to said pair of sections, a flexible band folded upon itself, a stiffener strip over which said flexible band is folded, said band and stifiener strip extending around the edges of said cover and over the edges of said lining and across said back forming section with a slide fastener tape secured to the fold of said band for fastening said band together to form the front and sides of the case, a binding tape extending around the edges of said cover, sheet, and lining and stitched through the edges of said band, strip, cover and said sheet and lining.
