Description

Dec. 16, 1952 o. MILLER 7,621,958
STOKER ASH SCOOP Filed April 11, 1949 l 0. 2)1iZZe7 INVENTOR BY I, 1
ATTORNEYS Patented en. 16, 1952 UNITED STATS FFICE 1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to an implement embodying a stoker ash scoop, especially designed for use in removing clinkers, ashes and flash which builds up between the stoker retort and furnace fire pot or wall, of stoker-fed furnaces.
An important object of the invention is to provide an implement of this character embodying a supporting member with a pivoted scoop mounted at one end thereof, means being provided for operating the scoop to move the scoop from a position extended longitudinally with respect to the support, to a position at right angles with respect to the support, the scoop picking up clinkers, ashes and flash during the swinging movement thereof, so that the clinkers, ashes and fiash may be readily removed.
An important object of the invention is to provide a scoop which is so mounted that it may pivot freely on the end of the support to the end that the scoop may be rocked to dig into the ashes, clinkers or flash to scoop up the material.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevational View of a scoop, constructed in accordance with the invention, illustrating the scoop portion of the implement as moved to a position at right angles with respect to the supporting member.
Fig. 2 is a front elevational view thereof.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view taken longitudinally through the implement.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the implement embodies a support 5 in the form of a tube or pipe, having at one end thereof bushings 6 between which the finger grip 1 is mounted for free rotary movement.
Spaced bands 8 are provided on the support 5 between which the hand of the operator may be positioned, to prevent slipping of the support within the hand, while in use.
At one end of the support 5, is an arcuateshaped support 8 which is provided with eye members 9 welded thereto, and spaced apart.
Secured for lateral movement within the eye members 9, is the arcuate-shaped arm 10 that has inwardly extended ends H providing pintles on which the scoop I2 is pivotally mounted.
Welded to the end l3 of the scoop, is the eye member I4 which extends rearwardly therefrom, the eye member 14 being connected with the eye 15 at one end of the operating rod l6 that extends through the support 5, as shown by Fig. 3 of the drawing, with the opposite end of the operating rod extending beyond the end of the support 5, where it is supplied with a finger piece I! or knob to be gripped by the operator in pulling or moving the rod to pivot the scoop I2 to accomplish the purpose of the invention.
From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, I have provided an implement which may be conveniently and efiiciently used in removing clinkers, ashes and flash from furnaces fed by mechanical stokers, the pivotal movement of the scoop being such as to permit the scoop to be moved from a position substantially longitudinally of the support, to a position at right angles with respect thereto, whereby the scoop may be readily forced into the clinkers or ashes and flash and then moved to a lateral position, scooping up the material to permit it to be removed readily.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
An implement for removing clinkers and ashes from furnaces, comprising an elongated tubular support, an arcuate-shaped supporting arm secured to one end of the tubular support transversely of the tubular support, eye members extending from the arcuate-shaped supporting member, an arcuate-shaped supporting arm having inwardly extended ends providing bearings, slidably mounted for lateral swinging movement within the eye members, a scoop having openings in which the bearings are positioned, pivotally mounting the scoop on the tubular support, an eye member secured to the rear end of said scoop, an operating rod having an eye extending through the tubular support, connected with the eye member secured to the scoop, pivotally connecting the operating rod and scoop, and an operating knob on one end of the rod.
