, INVENTOR FRANCIS J. MOORE KQ/5M ATTORNEY Patented Oct. 21, 1952 UNITED STATES PATENT No1=1=I-cle:
HOLDER FOR ROLL TOILET TISSUE Francis J. Moore, Minneapolis, Minn.
.Application J une 19, 1951,` Serial No. V,?.32,41,?,
4 Claims.
My present invention relates to improvements in toilet tissue holders and, more particularly, for a holder for a roll of toilet tissue.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a novel holder for removably holding a roll of toilet tissue in a recess, such as a recessed tile set in a wall.
Another object of the invention is to provide such a holder for holding a roll of toilet tissue that will freely rotate on the holder when the tissue is pulled to unwind the same from the roll, but which will frictionally hold the roll from spinning in case the tissue is given a quick pull and thereby unwinding a surplus of the tissue, resulting in waste.
A further object of this invention is to provide novel means for holding the holder from turning in the recess in which it is mounted when the tissue is pulled to unwind the same from the roll.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a novel holder that can be adjusted to move a roll of toilet tissue mounted thereon either forwardly or backwardly in the recess in which the holder is mounted.
Other objects of the invention will be apparent from the following description, reference being had to the drawing.
To the above end, generally stated, the invention consists of the novel devices and combination of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a front elevational View of the improved holder mounted in a recessed tile to be set in a wall;
Fig. 2 is a view in plan with some parts broken away and sectioned; and
Fig. 3 is a detail view partly in elevation and partly in section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
The numeral 4 indicates a tile to be set in a wall and having a recess 5 and also having in its side members 6 within the recess 5 a pair of opposing shallow cylindrical seats 1.
Referring now in detail to the invention, the numeral 8 indicates a round shaft that is longitudinally divided at its axis, and the two semicircular. sections thereof are detachably connected by a pair of nut-equipped bolts 9 that extend through aligned holes in said sections. A round rod Ill that extends parallel to the shaft 8 has its intermediate portion offset in the form of a yoke II. The transverse member I2 of the yoke II is parallel to the end portions of said rod and the side members I3 of the yoke III are perpendicular to its transverse member I2. The yoke side members I3 extend through bores I4 formed in the opposing sides of the two sections of the shaft 8 at the axis of said shaft. The bolts 9 hold the sections of the shaft t clamped onto the yoke side members I3 and said side members when endwise adjusted in the bores I4.
One end of the shaft 8 is mounted in one of the seats 1, and a cylindrical sleeve I5 slidably mounted on the other end portion of the shaft 8 extends into the other seat 1. A coiled spring I 6, encircling the shaft 8 inwardly of the sleeve I5, is compressed between an annular flange I1 on the inner end of said sleeve I5 and the adjacent yoke side member I3 and yieldingly holds said sleeve projected into its seat 1. shaft 8 extends through a longitudinally extended slot I5 in the sleeve I5 and limits the projecting movement of said sleeve by the spring I6.
Obviously, by retracting the sleeve I5 against the tension of the spring I6, the same will be removed from its seat 1 and thus permit the holder to be removed from the recess 5.
A shoe I8, of rubber or other suitable material, secured on one end portion of the rod Ill engages the face of the adjacent tile side member 6 and holds the shaft 8 from turning in the seats 1.
A roll of toilet tissue I9 wound on a cylindrical paper core 20, indicated by broken lines, is mounted on the improved holder.
Before the holder is mounted in the recess 5, the same is inserted endwise into the core 20. The yoke transverse member I 2 and the end portions of the rod II) engage the core 20, intermediately at diametrically opposite points and support the same to turn thereon when the tissue is pulled to unwind the same from the roll I9. However, the friction contact between the holder and the core 20 is suicient to prevent the roll from spinning in case the tissue is given a quick pull.
The drawing illustrates a commercial form of the invention, but it will be understood that the same is capable of certain modifications as to details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts within the scope of the invention herein disclosed.
What I claim is:
1. In a holder of the class described, a shaft having on one end a spring-projected extension,
and a rod offset at its intermediate portion in the form of a yoke having a transverse portion and A pin 8' in theY two side members, said side members extending transversely of the shaft and secured thereto.
2. The structure defined in claim 1 in which the yoke side members are secured to the shaft for endwise adjustment.
3. The structure defined in claim 1 in which the shaft is longitudinally divided at its axis, said shaft having two transverse bores in the opposing sides of the shaft through which the yoke side members extend for endwise adjustment, and means connecting the members of the shaft and frictionally clamping the same onto the yoke side members.
4. The combination with a Wall member having a recess, said member having at the sides of the recess a pair of opposing bore-like seats, of a shaft having on one end portion a spring-projected extension, said extension and the opposite end portion of the shaft being removably held in said seats, a rod substantially parallel to the shaft, the intermediate portion of the rod being offset in the form of a yoke comprising a transverse member and two side members, said side members extending transversely of the shaft and secured thereto, said rod having on one end portion a shoe engaging said recessed member and holding the shaft from turning in the seats.
