This invention relates to a brassiere designed to properly shape and support a womans breast.

A primary object of the invention is to provide a brassire of the character herein described, adapted to provide means for uplifting, forming and supporting the breasts regardless of the manner in which the wearer may twist her torso.

Another object of the invention is to provide a brassiere which will maintain a breast in desired position regardless of the raising of an opposite shoulder.

A further object is to provide a brassiere of the character described providing elastic adapted to maintain the garment in position firmly against the body of the wearer.

A still further object is to provide a brassiere utilizing a wire support adapted to be positioned around the lower base of the breasts and be prevented from tipping out and away from the body of the wearer.

An even further object of the invention is to provide a brassire adapted to lock a breast supporting wire to prevent the same from shifting around in its padding.

Other objects of the invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.

The brassiere is relatively conventional in general appearance, but is provided with an especially shaped breast supporting wire frame and resilient anchoring tapes. The wire frame is provided with an inverted U-shaped bend or crown ID from which two curved ends l2 extend and are formed to coincide with the normal contour of a wearers breasts. The wire frame is suitably and completely covered with a padded casing l4. Secured to the padded casing, suitable breast cups, preferably made of a netting Hi or the like, are provided and are reinforced by a Claims. (01. 2-42) centrally located strips l8. At the point where thereinforcing strips 18 extend to the upper edges of the breast cups, conventional shoulder straps 20 aresecured, at their bifurcated ends, and are adapted to also be secured to'back bands 22'.'Near the end of one band 22, conventional fastened eyes 24 are secured and to the end of the other, a conventional hook '26. The back bands 22 are securely attached by suitable stitching to'th'e outer contours of the breast cups, thus making a complete torsoencircling band, including the two breast cups.

An elastic tape 28 is folded over one wing 30 of a cut piece of felt, and is stitched thereto by the use of a zig-zag stitch 32 extending along one edge of the wing. The zig-zag stitch 34 also secures the tape 28 to the wing 30 and extends over the uncut portion of the felt between its two separate wings 30 and 36. The elastic tape 28 is folded over the wing 30 at approximately thereto in order to insure a perfect fit of the brassiere. The ends of the elastic tape 28 away from the felt wings 30 and 36 are cut at a 45 angle and are suitably secured near the upper centers of the breast cups, preferably at the point of attachment of the reinforcing strips l8 and the shoulder straps 20.

Additional elastic tapes 38, also having a 45 end out, are secured to the upper edge of the breast cups under the reinforcing strips l8, and extend outwardly therefrom to the approximate point of attachment of the back bands 22 attached to the outer edges of the breast cups. With this construction, the elastic tapes 28 and 38 properly support the upper portions of the breast cups by being suitably attached thereto and to the shoulder straps 20. Also, as will be explained more fully hereinafter, the elastic tapes 28 and 38 assure a perfect fit regardless of the flexing or twisting of the wearers torso.

At the time that the brassiere is assembled, the elastic tapes 28 and 38 will first be secured to the felt wing 30 (see Fig. 5). When in the position therein shown, the wings 3B and 36 are placed in the position in which they are shown in Fig. 6. The breast cups have previously been secured to the padded casing l4, and after the felt wings have been positioned as shown, the wing 30, with its attached elastic tapes 28, is securely fastened to the crown ID of the wire frame having two curved ends l2. When thus secured, the wing 36 is folded over the crown Ill and is stitched securely to the ends of the wing 30 and the padded casings l4. When thus secured to the wire frame and the breast cups, the elastic tapes 28 are secured to the breast cups g v 3 and the shoulder straps 20 and reinforcing strips 18 as described above.

To finally secure the elastic tapes 28 and the felt wings 30 and 38 to the crown ID of the wire frame, the latter are bound by suitable cord or thread 40. After thus assembling and constructing the brassiere, a suitable decorative bow or ribbon trim,may be added over the wings -30 and 36 to properly cover and/or hide'the same.

A brassiere thus constructed provides a comfortable support for the wearers breasts and maintains them in originally adjusted position regardless of stresses or strains caused by the normal twisting or bending of the torso. .The'

elastic tapes will continually maintainfthe brassiere in close contact with the wearers body.

I claim:

1. A bust shaping and supporting garment I comprising a bust encircling band including two? breast supporting cups, a pair of shoulder straps each connected at one end thereof to the approximate center of the top edge of each of said cups, resilient breast'supportingframe elements including two arcuately shapedv and continuous end portions positioned within a casing and attached to the bottom edges of said cups, and elastic tapes secured to the edges of said cups and extending at an angle of approximately 45 from the point of meeting of the said breast supporting frame elements to the point of at-- i 0 tachment of the cups to said shoulder straps.
