According to the inventionfu'ieir armefit comprises an upper or jacket portion anda lower trousers portion formed therebelow, a drop seat panel formed out of the trousers portion and a belt defining the top marginal edge thereof, and a pair of pockets foldable from a corresponding pair of pocket panels extending from the lower region of the jacket portion. By this construction, the pockets provide a continuous extension of the jacket portion which underlies the trousers portion whereby to afford concealment of the wearers torso at the junction of the drop seat marginal sides and the trousers portion adjacent thereto when the belt is encircled about the waist of the wearer in secured position. A further unique characteristic of this arrangement is that the end portions of the belt form one notch with the marginal sides of the drop seat attached thereto and the pocket entrance members form an opposite complementary notch with the jacket portion thereabove whereby, when these opposed notches are brought together upon the encirclement of the belt about the wearer's waist, a neat and positive closure of the meeting parts is readily effected to provide a snugly fitting garment of pleasing appearance.

The invention is embodied in the garment exemplified by the accompanying drawings in which the views are as follows, like reference numerals designating similar parts throughout the several views:

.A drop seat It! (Fig. 2) is defined in the upper region of the trousers portion, occurring above the broken line 10A. Attached to the drop seat along the top edge thereof, is a belt II adapted to encircle the wearer in the waist portion to secure the garment in closed position.

Extending from the jacket panels (Fig. 3), is a pair of pocket panels l2, foldable along fold lines I3 and united, after folding, along the angular seam lines I4. The outer edges of these pocket panels define a triangular tab I5 adapted to unite with a complementary tab l6 after sewing along seam line H, these tabs occurring in the hip region at the sides of the garment.

When worn in secured position with the belt encircling the waist, a notch [9 formed by the junction of tab 16 with the jacket portion thereabove is engaged with a complementary notch 20 formed by the junction of the end portions of the belt with the side marginal edges 2| of the drop seat (Fig. 4), thereby providing a neat and positive interlocking closure between the pocket entrance members and the opposite trousers portion brought thereagainst when the drop seat is secured in wearing position. The gatheringin structure 9 tends to draw the flaps formed by tabs l5 and I6 rearwardly about the hips.

Thus, when the belt is drawn about the waist of the wearer, thereby moving the drop seat marginal sides 2| forwardly in respect to the hips, the gathering-in structure 9 tends to retract the flaps of the pockets in the opposite direction to bring notches l9 and 20 into close interlocking engagement to assure the wearer a snug fitting and trim appearing garment. Further, by virtue of the construction of the pocket members, the sacks thereof hang independently in a practical sense, of the trouser leg parts; thus, when the wearer thrusts the hands into the pockets, the back region of the garment is brought into a snug fitting relation over the torso, the thrust thus applied pulling the jacket portion thereover.

I may employ the usual dart construction, as

at 22, to impart comfort and style to the garment.

My invention is thus seen to provide a drop seat garment construction of unique character istics, which is simple and efficient in the practice thereof, affording the wearer a maximum degree of convenience and comfort, especially in getting into and out of thegarment.

While the drawings depict panels in views showing partial delineations of the various panels making up the garment, it will be understood that these illustrations suggest symmetrical arrangements which will be readily comprehended by those skilled in the art.

I do not limit the application of the invention to a particular style, the teachings thereof being alike relevant to sun suitaplay suits, bathing suits, or any suitable apparel fabricated, in preference, in a onepiece suit, without any specific arrangement of the seams.

Of course, the invention is susceptible of a variety of modifications and changes in design without, however, departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.

1. In a drop seatgarment, the combination of a front jacket panel and a front trouser panel with the rear edges thereof adjacent the waistline junction between said panels converging to form a notch at said junction, a rear jacket panel having a flap at its forward edge and below said belt with the forward edge of said flap and the lower edge of the free end of said belt defining a notch therebetween, said front and rear' trouser panels having their respective rear and front edges secured together from their lower ends upwardly to a point spaced below said flap and belt with the unsecured edges providing a drop seat portion at the upper portion of said rear trouser panel, said belt adapted to encircle the waistline junction between said jacket and trouser panels and to maintain said fiap in position beneath the front trouser panel with the said notches in engagement, the overlying position of said front trouser panel with respect to said flap forming a side closure.

2. A drop seat garment as defined in claim 1 in which the rear jacket panel has a gathering in structure at the back thereof at the top of the skirt portion of said panel. I
