Allan Freeman Mitchell, Wanganui, Wellington, New Zealand, assignor to Drcnching Equip: ment Company Limited, Wanganui, Wellington, New ZealamLa company of New Zealand navrcnron f Application May 18, 1949, Serial No. 93,866 I. In New zealand June 21, 1348 The invention relates to devices for administering drenches to livestock, and has for its'object, the provision tor the aforesaid purpose, of an improved form of device designed to enable to be administered to livestock, drenches in a form capable of being dealt with by means of a receptaclewhich can be contracted or distorted to discharge its contents and be permitted to return to a normal condition, to become charged with a drenching medium.
The device provided by the invention, and to be herein described, comprises a body containing a rubber bag which normally retains an open state therein, and iscapable of being compressed to eject its contents through a nozzle, by a pressure bar operable through said body, said bag returning to its open state upon being relieved of pressure. l, i
In order that the invention may, be clearly understood, it will'be more particularly described with the aid of the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 illustrates a longitudinal view of the improved device partly in section and partly in elevation, and Figure 2 is a cross sectional view of the device shownin Figure 1;
In one suitable form, the improved device can.
comprise a cylindrical body [enclosing a bag 2 of rubber of such a nature that it normally retains an open state against the inner surface of the body I. l e
The bag 2 is fitted at its mouth over and to a plug 3 and is retained thereon by being expanded over a circular ridge 4 and engaging in a recess 4, said plug 3 with thebag. 2 attached thereto,
being inserted and received in the body t, so.
that the plug 3 closes an end'of the latter.
The plug 3 has an inclined or sloped inner end 3 inserted in the bag 2, and through which opens the bore of, or a passage 5 in communication with, a nozzle 6 fitted to, and made to incline from the plug 3, and formed with a bent or curved outer end.
A pressure bar I accommodated between the bag 2 and the body I, has a grip 8 protruding through a slot l in the body, in line with the nozzle 6, the grip 8 having an opening 9 therein through which is accessible a screw l0, secured between the top wall ofthe grip and the pressure bar. The screw has operable thereon a nut I I provided with a flange or head I l located between the pressure bar I and the body I so as to engage the wall of the latter, and be held against travel, when turned, the screw Ill being capable of adjustment through the nut H by turning the latter to limit outward protrusion of the grip through the slot I.
5 Claims. 3 (Cl. 128--223) In order to charge the bag 2 with liquid the body of the device is gripped by a hand of the operator and the bag 2 compressed by a'squeezing action applied to the grip B of the pressure bar 1, following which the nozzle 6 is inserted l in the liquid with which the bag 2 is to be charged,
and the pressure removed from the grip 8, which allows the bag 2 to return to its normal state or condition and in doing so to draw liquid through the nozzle 6 into its interior.
Upon again applying pressure to the bag 2 per medium of the grip 8 and pressure bar 1, the
contents of the bag 2 can be forced out of or discharged from the bag 2 through thenozzle 6 and'directed by the latter where required.
A spring IBis provided between the outer end of the nut H and the inner surface of the top or" .the grip 8 to retain the nut H in any ad-' justed position along the screw I0.
' By turning the nut ll relative to' the screw' In to move the screw into or out of the body, the degree of inward and outward movements of the grip 8 and the pressure bar I can beregulated or governed within the limits determined by the permissable adjustment of the screw ID in the nut H, to control the amount of liquid to be drawn into and to be ejected from the bag 2. Markings [2 provided on the grip 8 enable the pressure bar I to beset as required, to deal with or handle a predetermined dose, by adjusting the screw ID to bring a requisite marking 12 in line with the side of the body I.
The plug 3 can be secured in the body I by means of a circular spring clip I3 accommodated in a circular recess or groove in the exterior of thebody I and 'having an inturned end 14 entered in registering holes in said body l and plug 3.
A device of the kind described is of comparatively simple construction, has no springs or like parts liable to easily get out of order, and the bag if and when it becomes worn or loses its resiliency is readily replaced, in addition to which said device is positive in action, not apt to leak and is simple to operate.
What I do claim and desire to obtain by Letters Patent of the United States of America is:
