UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN B. HOOKER, OF LARIAT, COLORADO.
BALlNG-PRESS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 260,977, dated July 11, 1882. Application filed May 26, 1882, (No model.)
To all whom. it may concern Be it known that I,JoHN BENJAMIN HOCK- ER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lariat, in the county of Rio Grande and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Baling-Presses; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l'is a top plan view of my invention, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section thereof.
The present invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in that class of baling-presses in which are employed two horizontally-reciprocating plungers operating alternately to 'press'the hay or other material.
The object of the invention is to improve the construction of the above class of pressess, so that the plungers can be readily and easily operated with the required power for pressing These objects I attain by the construction substantially as shown in the drawings and hereinafter described.
V In the accompanying drawings, A B represent the press-boxes, of any suitable construction, which, if preferred, may be detachably connected to a stationary support, 0, by rods (1, or by any other desirable means that will allow the press-boxes to be disconected from the support 0. The support may be in form of an open frame-work or solid base, whichever is deemed preferable, and has secured to it two guideways, 1), arranged opposite and parallel to each other, and have connected to them a cross-piece, c.
Between the guidewayb and below the cross piece 0 is arranged or located a horizontallysliding carrier, D, to the ends of which are pivoted or swiveled the plungers E, and, if preferred, may be so connected as to admit of their ready removal when desired.
To the stationary support 0 is connected an upright post, (I, which serves as a pivot for an eccentric wheel, F, around which it turns, the periphery thereof coming in contact with the peripheries of anti-friction rollers G, said rollers being connected to each end of the carrier D, and also serving as fulcrums for the wheel F.
The carrier D has an elongated opening, e, through which the post d passes to allow the carrier to move back and forth the required distance in forcing the plungers alternately against the material contained in the pressboxes.
The eccentric wheel F is operated by the leverf or by any suitable power found most desirable, the eccentric wheel acting on the rollers G, causing the plungers E to be alternately acted upon by the back-and-forward movement of the carrier D. I
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a baling-press, the combination, with the stationary post 01, having connected thereto the eccentric operating-wheel F, of the carrier D, having elongated opening e, plungersE, and anti-friction rollers G, said rollers also acting as fulcrums for the eccentric wheel, the whole combined and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that 1 claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of twowitnesses.
JOHN BENJAMIN HOOKER.
