The present,- invention relatesto a fountain Apaint brush and it consists in the combinations,
constructions and arrangements ofparts herein described and claimed.
Generally there is provided a fountainpaint brush comprisinga reservoir 4to'whichis' threadably connected a cover. having. va tubularmember upwardly extending therefrom and in .which is threadably mounted a hollow cylindrical handle of a paint brush having mounted therein a valve for controlling the flow of paint therethrough. Affixed to the cover is an upwardly extending annular drip trap. A valve is provided in the cover Within the drip trap and is provided with an operating handle which is normally retained in a closed position by a spring. In another form the invention may assume there is provided a reservoir having a cover threadably connected therewith, which cover is provided with a hollow cylindrical supply tube in the outer end of which is aixed a brush. In this form of the invention excess paint not utilized by the brush may drain backwardly through the supply tube by placing the device with the brush in an upward position.
It is accordingly an object of the invention to provide a device of the character set forth which is simple in construction and operation, inexpensive to manufacture and yet effective and eincient in use.
Another object of the invention is to provide, in a device of the character set forth, novel means for entrapping and salvaging excess paint applied to the brush thereof.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a novel valve forming a part of the invention.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of novel means for regulating the ow of paint to a brush from a reservoir forming a part of the invention.
Other and further objects of the invention will become apparent from a reading of the following specification taken in conjunction with the drawing, in which Figure l is a side elevational View of an embodiment of the invention,
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view thereof,
Figure 8 is a sectional view taken along line 3-3 of Figure 1,
Figure lis a sectional view taken along line 4 4 of Figure 1,
Figure 5 is an elevational view of a modified form the invention may assume,
Figure 6 is a vertical sectional view of Figure 5,
1 claim. (cnr-,431)
Figure 7 is an elevational view, partly: broken away, ofv an extrar handle whichforms a part of the invention.
'Referring more particularly to the drawing, there is shown thereina fountain paintbrush having a reservoir II) in one end' of which is affixed a permanent end wall II'- wherein is cen- -trally and threadably mounted a ller cap I2.
The other end of the reservoir I0 has threadably mounted therein, as indicated at I3, the cover I4. Centrally mounted and extending outwardly from the cover I4 is a cylindrical supply tube I5 which has interiorly threaded therein a hollow cylindrical handle I6 Which is extericrly threaded upon a tube I6a which, in turn, communicates with the inner ends of bristles I1 forming a paint brush, which bristles are encompassed by a frame I8, the tube I6 being formed integrally with the frame I8.
Within the handle I6 there is provided a valve I9 which is mounted upon a transversely extending shaft 20 having an operating handle 2l at one end thereof.
Outwardly extending from the cover I4 and spaced from the supply tube I5 is an annular drip trap 22. A bracket 23 interconnects the inner wall 'of the drip trap 22 and they supply tube I5 and has vertically extending therethrough a rod 24 provided at its outer end with an operating handle 25 and at its inner end with a valve 26 which seats against the peripheral edges of an opening 21 provided in the cover I4 between the walls of the drip trap 22 and the supply tube I5. A spring 28 surrounds the shaft A 24 and is adaptedl to urge the valve 26 upwardly against its seat.
A hand grip 29 is provided for the device and l and the remainder of the device guided by thev other hand of the operator and the flow of paint from the reservoir In through the tubes I5 and I6 to the brush II may be regulated by means of the valve I9 through manipulation of the handle 2 I. When the device is temporarily not in use it will be placed upon its end wall and supported thereby, whereupon excess paint coming from 3 the brush I1 will drop by gravity into the trap 22. It may then be readmitted into the container l0 by pressing the handle 25 to thereby open the valve 26.
In Figures 5 and 6 of the drawing, there is shown a modified form the invention may assume. In this case, there is provided a container 40 having a cover 4l threadably secured thereto. Centrally emanating from the cover 4l is a supply tube 42 in the outer renclI-ofwhich is provided an enlarged portion 431er the reception of the bristles 44 of a brush.
In the operation of this form of the invention, the cover 4l may be removed from the container 40 in order to ll the container with paint, lafter which the cover may again be replaced and the device will then be ready vlfor use. In this form of the invention, excess paint may be a1- lowed to drain back into the container 40 through the supply tube 42 byplacing the device with `the brush 44 uppermost.
Figure-'7, Ymaybe threadably connected `to the tube laeso that the` same may .be -usedas an ordinary' brush.
While only'kcertain forms of `the :invention vhave `4 Y been shown and described herein, it will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art that many minor modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the .scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A device of the character described comprising a container, a cover removably mounted on saidcontainer, a supply tube extending from said cover, a-brushat the outer endV ofthe tube having its bristles in communication with the tube, a flow regulating valve in said supply tube, a drip trap comprising an annular outwardly ex- 'tendingwall aihxed to the cover in spaced relation to the tube, and a manually operable re- 'turn valve in said cover between the tube and i the lWalls of lthe-drip trap.
