Application November 28, 1949, Serial No. 129,818
' 1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to package ties, and more particularly to a parcel carrier for receiving and holding the binding cord of a package.
An object of the invention is to provide a con venient means for attachment to a parcel or package whereby such package may be conveniently carried.
A further object of the invention is to provide a parcel carrier which has means for receiving the binding cord about the package in a gripping and resilient action to thereby insure against slipping and loosening.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a parcel carrier in the form of a handle grip which in itself may be readily folded to a compact compass which is readily emplaceable in a ladys handbag or a mans suit pocket.
Still further objects of the invention reside in the provision of a parcel carrier that is strong, durable, highly efiicient in operation, simple in construction and design, and relatively easy and inexpensive to manufacture.
These, together with the various ancillary objects of the invention which will become apparent as the following description proceeds, are attained by this parcel carrier, a preferred embodiment of which has been illustrated in the accompanying drawings, by way of example only, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention shown in operative placement about a parcel or bundle;
Figure 2 is an elevational view of the handle grip comprising the principal element of the present invention;
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view as taken along the line 33 of Figure 4;
Figure 4 is a vertical sectional view as taken along the line 4-4 of Figure 3; and
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the plate which is adapted to be made as an integral portion of the handle-grip, yet which may have multiple other uses and functions.
With continuing reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein like reference numerals designate similar parts throughout the various views, reference numeral [0 is used to generally designate a package about which the novel parcel carrier is adapted to be emplaced.
The parcel carrier comprises two principal portions, that is, a handle grip l2 and ties l4 and l6. 7
handle formed in two sections l8 and 20 which are pivotally secured together by means of rivet pin 22. The handle portions [8 and 20 are arouate in shape and have plates 23 and 24 integrally formed therewith. Obviously the plates 23 and 24 could be made separately and hence attached to the handle portions by welding or other suitable means. However, it has been found to be quite simple to form this device with the handle portions integral with the plates. Each of the plates 23 and 24 are provided with apertures 26 therethrough for a purpose to be henceforth explained. Lugs 28 and .30 are struck from the plate 23 and lugs32 and 34 are struck from the plate 34. i
The plates 23 are preferably formed with their upper surfaces convex in shape and the under surfaces thereof concave. However, the portion 36 between the flanges 23 and 30 and the portion 38 between the flanges 32 and 34 are preferably depressed so that they are convex in shape on their bottom surfaces and correspondingly concave in so far as their upper surfaces. The lugs 28, 30, 32 and 34 are formed integral with the plates 23 and 24 at their base ends and the lugs 30 and 32 rise angularly upward in a direction in which the lugs 28 and 34 extend. The lugs are formed with their upper surfaces convex in shape and their under surfaces concave.
To secure the handle grip [2 to the bundle It, the ties l4 and [6 are first secured by means of a suitable knot 38 at one end of each of the ties, the other end of the ties being passed through one of the apertures 26 in each of the plates. Then the free end of the ties I4 and 16 are passed about the bundle l0 and subsequently engaged in the manner best shown in Figures 1 and 3 in engagement with the lugs and the central portion. It can be readily seen that the opposed concave surfaces of the lugs and the central portions will form means for resiliently and. securely holding the ties in a secure manner.
Referring now more particularly to Figure 5, it will be seen that a plate generally designated by reference numeral is shown which is provided with apertures 52, lugs 52 and 55 and a depressed central portion 58, all similar in shape to the plates 23 and 24. However, since it is anticipated that these plates could be used as buckles for shoes, belts, other articles of clothing, which need securing and tieing means the plate 55! is shown made separate from any other portion such as the handle grips. However, the struc ture and purpose of the plates 5d are similar to that of the plates 23 and 2 Actually the plates 50 may be readily used for any purpose that other conventional buckles are used and may be constructed from thin sheet metal, plastic, or any other convenient material.
Since from the foregoing, the construction and advantages of this parcel carrier are readily apparent, further description is believed to be unnecessary.
However, since numerous modifications will readily occur to those skilled in the art after a consideration of the foregoing specification and accompanying drawings, it is not intended to limit the invention to the precise embodiment of parcel carrier shown and described, but all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to which fall within the scope of the appended claim. Having described the invention, What is-claimed as new is:
A tie down device comprising a plate, a pair of lugs connected at their base ends to said plate and being arranged in 'side-by-side relation, the opposite ends of said lugs ext-ending angularly upwardly from said plates in a direction opposite to each other, each lug being arcuate in cross section and facing said plate, the portion of said plate'located between said lugs being arcuate in cross section and facing in a direction opposite from said lugs so that the side edges of said portion and said lugs constitute strap holding elements, a handle which includes two sections pivoted together at one pair of ends, one of said sec- REFERENCES CIT-ED The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
