Other: objects and advantages of my invention Will be brought out during the iollowing'd es'crip tion of the form of my inventionwhich l have chosen to illustrat'the" features, principles, and advantages thereof. On the drawing is shown a ema c y ut of he c nt l d e p v d by the invention. The fuel-metering control member I of the fuel injection pump 2, for example, for an automotive Diesel engine is actuated, during normal operation, by a diaphragm 3 Whose one side, through a line 4, is in communication with the intake manifold of the engine in such a manner that in a known manner ion internal combustion en-' gir'is aaaptearor useln inot'oii'vehiclesfandfit is. an object of the. invention "to facilitate; and si'm'-' or. the invention relates to a November 14, 1950, Serial No. 195,507 In Germany August 3,
12 Claims (01. 123 -179 v 2 the pressure below atmospheric behind a throttle valve (which can 'be"se't-by'the' driver) in the intake manifold affects the diaphragm 3, Accordingly, with the throttle in" closed position the diaphragm 3 is drawn rightvvai'ds', whereby'the' fuelmetering control member- I; for example, a rack adapted to turn th'e'piston plunge'rs's'ets the con-" trols for fuel delivery to-anemones for idling, whereas with the throttle in open position, hence lesser pressure below atmospheric,' the fuel metering control member I is shifted leftwards to full-load volume. The fuel-meteringcontrol member A is provided with two stops 5 and 6 between whicha lever 1" 'mav'freely playvvithin' certain limits. 'Thelever T, by means oia Bow den Wire 3 a linkage or the like, is connected with a hand lever 9 supported on a shaft Ill. The lever 9 may be set into f our positions being" desighated on uieumwm'g'b Stop, Normal, Preheating Start. "Coupled to the lever 9 is a further lever l i which maybe arrangeddirectly on the Shanta or, as shown on'the drawin on a parallel shaft. The lever l serves as shift lever for the electric circuit and in position Preheat ing close's'an electric circuit [2 for th incandescent glow-plugs and in position ,Start a circult it for thestarter. Eventually, provision may also bemade for an arrangement in which the current still flows through all or at least several of the incandescent glow-plugs during actuation of the starter; A tension spring i4 returns the lever 9 into the normal position when the said lever (for example; manually'set' to preheating or starting)" is ieleased'by the'difiveri 'A ball l5 drops'into a socket it'so that in eiiect the nor mal position? is'riositivelypositionedand can not bepassed. The electricbi' cuits L2 and I3 controlled by the lever?! i are disconnected in the Normal? and Stop positioh's ofthe'lever'il.
Owing to the distance between the stops I and s t eme-nannies control member "I will 'not be him/sate the lever T when the lever 9 is in a-m gnit on. Eventually, the same applies also 'foi" 'thePreheatingtposition shown on the drawing. Whereasfwhen' the eve is brought into st ting-i position then the incl-metering control fi e I ingor overload vb'mns'exce'eumg the full-load. volume. As the lever 9 is moved into Stop position, the fuel-metering control member I is shifted rightwards by the stop 6 and therewith the fuel delivery cut out.
