Description

Aug.v5, 1952 A. DAHowsK'l 2,605,544
y ELECTRIC WALLPAPER CUTTING TOOL Filed March 27, 1948 v -as indicated at I1 toreceive bevel gears Patented Aug. 5, 1952 ELECTRIC WALLPAPER CUTTING TOOL Anthony Dahowski, Greenfield, Mass., assignor of one-half to Moe Rispler, Greenfield, Mass.
Application March 27, 1948, Serial No. 17,452
1 Claim.
t This invention relates to a wallpaper cutting It is an object of the present invention to provide a power operated wallpaper cutting tool wherein the same may be used in effective manner to cut the wallpaper and wherein the depth of cut can be gauged or adjusted as desired and wherein adequate support is provided for the cutting wheel so that it will at allr times run true. v
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a power operated wallpaper cutting tool which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture and efiicient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a side elevational View of the tool with portions broken away to show the manner in which the cutting wheel is connected therewithin.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the cutting wheel.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the adjustable guide.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary and sectional view taken on line 4--4 of Fig. 1.
Referring now to the figures, I9 represents a handle in which is mounted a motor I I. A wire cable I2 is extended from the rear end of the handle and may be connected with a wall plug I3. The handle is of large diameter and adapted to be secured to the forward end of the same a bracket I5. Screws I6 serve to secure the bracket to the handle. The bracket I is recessed I8 and I9. The bevel gear I8 is on a shaft 2| extending from the motor II. The bevel gear I9 is on a shaft 22 which extends forwardly from the recess. At the forward end of the bracket I5 is another recess 23 through which the shaft 22 extends and within which there is a gear 25 which is made secure with the shaft 22 by a collar portion 26 having a set screw 21. Adapted to be secured to the bracket I5 and separable therefrom is a retaining member 28, the securing being effected by screws 29 and 30 entering the bracket I5. The forward end of the bracket is adapted to receive a shaft 32 of a cutting wheel 33. This shaft extends from the opposite side of the cutting wheel into the retaining member 28. This cutting wheel has indentations 34 thereon with which geared teeth of the gear 25 engage to cause the rotation of the cutting wheel. A small raised portion 35 is used to hold the blade or cutting wheel 33 straight and to save wear on its bearing connections with the bracket I5 and the member 28.
Adapted to be secured to the exterior of the member 28 is an adjustable guide 31 having elongated slots 38 therein and a transverse portion 39 adapted to engage with the work over which the wheel traverses. The guide 31 is secured by screws 4I. The guide 31 can be secured to the top of the bracket I5 as indicated by the dotted lines 42.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of my invention, what is claimed is:
A wallpaper cutting tool comprising a handle having a motor therein, a bracket connected to the end of the handle, a shaft extending from the motor, a second shaft extending through the bracket and disposed at an acute angle to said first mentioned shaft, means for drivingly connecting the two shafts together, a cutting wheel pivotally mounted on the outer end of the bracket at right angles to said second shaft, and said second mentioned shaft having a gear engaging with the cutting wheel, said cutting wheel having indentations for receiving the teeth of the gear, a retaining member secured to said bracket on the opposite side of said second shaft and an adjustable guide adapted to be connected to the retaining member and extending to the side of the cutting wheel at an acute angle whereby to limit the cutting end of the cutting wheel.
