Description

Aug. 5, 1952 E. KRAMER I ADJUSTABLE BRASSIERE FRAME Filed Oct. 14, 1950 INVENTOR. fiif Kramer 2 CD HIIWRNEK Patented Aug. 5, 1952 f UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE; f
ADJUSTABLE BRASSIERE Eugene Kramer, Long Island City, N. Y. Application October 14, 1950, Serial N0 190,097:
This invention relates to frames for brassires, and has for its main object to provide a brassiere frame which is adjustable, and permits the wearer to regulate the distance between the right and left parts of the brassire'to suit the individual taste, personal measurements of the wearer,-and permitting her also to compensate for a certain lack of symmetry, whenever such a condition exists.
Another object is to provide an adjustable brassiere frame in which the adjustment can be made in the front by the wearer, and which may also be opened in the front, if desired; still another object is to provide such a device which is easy, simple and inexpensive to manufacture.
Further objects of the invention and novel features of construction will be apparent from the following specification when considered together with the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a front view of the invention;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of the back of the center part of the invention, as shown in Fig. 1,
, with the connecting means separated;
Fig. 3 is a cross section on line 33 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 3a is a cross section on line 3a--3a of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a modification of the male member of the connecting means shown in Fig. 2;
Fig. 5 is another modification of the connecting means shown in Fig. 2;
Fig. 5a is an enlarged view of the latch used in the modification shown in Fig. 5;
Fig. 6 shows another form of the device, embodying the invention;
' Fig. '7 shows an enlarged view of the back of the center portion of Fig. 6.
As shown in Figures 1, 2, 3 and 3a, the device consists of left Wire form I and right wire form 2, movably connected by connecting means 3.
Said connecting means 3 consists of a male member 4 fitting into slotted tube 5, the female member of said connecting means 3. The male member carries latch 6 supported by spring 8, capable of engaging in slots 5a of slotted tube 5, the part engaging in the selected slot being identified as 6a.
The free ends of said male connecting member 4 and female member 5 each form eyelets 1, useful for sewing operations connected with the assembly of the completed brassire, for which the invention serves as a frame.
The male member 4 and female member 5 are mounted on Wire forms I and 2 by the bent in flap Ill of said members, and are being supported by another bent in flap 9. It should be noted 4 Claims. (Cl. 2,-42)
' that while flap [0 is bent around the wire, bent in flap 9 is in back of the wire to supportsame as tension is applied. against thc'device. i Fig. 4 shows amodificatio'n of latchifiland spring 8 shown in Fig.2, by substitutingifor"these" two parts a one piece spring latch Hi 1 Figs. 5 and 5a show another modification of connecting means 3 shown in Fig. 1. The modification consists in a bent down hook l2 on the female member 5 traveling in channel I 3 0n latch 6. This arrangement has the effect to eliminate accidental separation of the left and right parts of the brassire frame, should latch 6 become accidentally disengaged from slotted tube 5.
Figures 6 and 7 show another form of the device embodying the invention. In this construction the right and left wire forms are differently shaped, the right wire form consisting of the right upper wire l6 continuing into the right lower wire I1, and similarly the left upper wire I4 continues into the left lower wire IS. The right and left wire forms are connected by connecting means I 8, consisting of male member l9 having eyelet 2|, and of female member 20, also having eyelet 2|. Female member 20 has slots 24 on the bottom, into which latch 23, supported by spring 22 can be engaged, the selection of the proper slot being in the discretion of the wearer.
With the constructions shown 'it will be apparent that by engaging the male member of the connecting means into oneselected slot of the female connecting member, the distance between the left and right parts of the brassiere frame can be adjusted according to the needs of the wearer. Furthermore, the male and female members of said connecting means may be completely separated, thereby opening the brassiere in the front, although a modification offers also means to prevent complete separation of the male and female members of the connecting means to avoid accidental opening of the brassire in front. The wire form used can be any desired form, including the shorter, socalled separators often used in dresses; and the connecting means may be mounted either on the end of the wire, as shown in Fig. 1, or on any intermediate part of the wire form, as shown in Fig. 6. It has been found that in both cases, it is advisable to mount the connecting members on the wire in a manner which assures support to the wire in two directions substantially at right angles, in view of the tension exerted on the brassiere form in actual use.
Furthermore, to facilitate the sewing of the frame to textile materials, it is advantageous to provide eyelets on both the right and left side of the connecting members.
It will be understood that changes in arrangement, size and shape of parts, manner of assembly and other details of construction may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention which is defined by the following claims.
I claim:
1. A frame for brassires having, in combi nation, a first and a second breast embracing wire form, an adjusting member ventrally con;- necting said wire forms, said adjusting member consisting of a tube mounted on the first wire form, said tube being provided with'a plurality of slots, and of latching means capable of engaging into a selected slot of said tube, said latching means being mounted on the second wire form.
2.1,A frame for brassieres as described in claim 1, having a spring member attached to said latching means, said spring member keeping said latching means engaged in said selected slot.
3. A frame for-brassieresas described in claim 1-, said tube and said. latching means having means to prevent complete separation of said adjusting member.
4. A frame for brassieres as described in claim 1, said tube being mounted on said first wire form in a manner to support said first wire form in two directions, said two directions being substantially at right angles to each other, said latching means being mounted on the second wire form in a manner to support said second wire form in two directions, said two directions being substantially at right angle to each other.
