1 Claim. 1
The present invention relates to loom attachments and more particularly to an improved picker stick lug strap holder which supports the lug strap in a desired position on the picker stick as the lug strap moves back and forth during the operation of the loom.
An important object of the invention is to provide a lug strap holder constructed of wood and having means for securing the holder in a desired vertically adjusted position on a picker stick to support the lug strap in a desired position.
Another object is to provide a lug strap holder constructed of a. wooden block having a rounded upper edge on which the lug strap rests to reduce friction and wear on the lug strap and also to provide a leather wear strap held in position against the picker sticks by the lug strap holder to reduce shock between the lug strap and the picker stick and to prevent wear on the picker stick.
A still further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is eficient and reliable in operation, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and which may be replaced at low cost and which otherwise is well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a picker stick showing the lug strap holder attached thereto;
Figure 2 is an enlarged front elevational view;
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2; and
Figure 4 is an enlarged perspective view of the lug strap holding block.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein, for the purpose of illustration, I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates the picker stick which forms part of a conventional loom construction and which is adapted to be rocked by means of a lug strap 6 in the usual manner.
A lug strap holder is designated generally at 'l and comprises a wooden block 8 having a tapered upper end 9 which is rounded at its upper edge as shown at It) and which is held against the rear edge of the picker stick 5 by U-bolt ll positioned in Openings ill in the lower portion of the block. The upper rounded edge ll] of the block projects laterally at each side of the picker stick and on which the lower edge of the lug strap 6 rests to support the latter during itsreciprocating movement.
A clamping plate I3 is held against the rear surface of the block 8 by the U-bolt II and the plate 13 is formed with a horizontal groove 14 in which the bight portion of the U-bolt is seated to prevent the clamping plate l3 from slipping. A clamping plate 15 is also positioned on the end of the U-bolt against the front edge of the 2 picker stick 5 and is held in position by the nuts I6 threaded on the U-bolt.
A leather wear strap I! is clamped between the rear edge of picker stick 5 and block 8 and projects upwardly above the block behind the picker stick to function as a wear strap between the lug strap and the picker stick and to reduce shock subjected to the picker strip by the lug strap.
In the operation of the device, the U-bolt ll straddles the picker stick 5 so that the block 8 may be easily and quickly clamped in vertically adjusted position on the picker stick so that the lug strap 6 will lightly rest on the upper edge of the block to thus reduce friction and wear on the lug strap to a minimum and which is further aided by the rounded upper edge ill of the block 8.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a. preferred embodiment of the invention, the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A lug strap hanger for looms comprising a wooden block having a tapering rounded upper edge, a U-bolt passing through the block and straddling the loom picker stick to secure the block thereto, said block having its upper edge projecting outwardly beyond the side edges of the picker stick for resting a lug strap thereon, a shock absorbing wear strap positioned between the block and the picker stick and projecting upwardly above the block for engagement by the lug strap and clamping plates held against the outer surface of the block and against the front side of the picker stick by said U-bolt, said front clamping plate having openings to receive the end portions of the U-bolt and said first-named clamping plate being of elongated construction and positioned vertically at the outer surface of the block to extend substantially from. top to bottom thereof and having a horizontal groove in its outer surface in which the bight portion of the U-bolt is seated.
