4 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in coin dispensers, and the primary object of the present invention is to provide an electrical dispenser for vehicles which is operatively connected to the ignition switch of a vehicle and which will operate to effectively expel or discharge a coin therefrom only when the ignition switch has been actuated by an operator.
Another important object of the present invention is to provide a coin dispenser for vehicles and the like that will permit a driver to have at his disposal coins for toll bridges, parking meters and the like and which is conveniently actuated by a user.
A further object of the present invention is to provide an electrical coin dispenser including a slide, and embodying novel and improved looking means for holding said slide against sliding movement and for releasing said locking means.
A still further aim of the present invention is to provide an electrical coin dispenser that is simple and practical in construction, strong and reliable in use,neat and attractive in appearance, small and compact in structure, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings' forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the electrical coin dispenser constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view of Figure 1, showing the slide disposed within the casing, and with dotted lines showing the slide disposed outwardly of the casing for discharging a coin therefrom; v
Figure 3 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 33 of Figure 2;
Figure '4 is a longitudinal horizontal sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 44 of Figure 2;
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the slide used in conjunction with the present invention, and withparts broken away and shown in section; and
Figure 6 is a perspective view of the pivotal locking member used in conjunction with the present invention.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration, there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral I0 represents a housing or casing of any suitable size, shape or material generally, and which preferably includes a bottom wall l2, a forward rounded or arcuate end wall M, a rear fiat end wall [6, a flat upper wall 20. and side walls 22.
A coin compartment or sleeve 24 is fixed in the casing I0, against the inner periphery of the forward wall l4, and communicates with a coin slot 26 provided in the upper wall 20. The lower open end 28 of the coin compartment 24 is spaced above the bottom wall [2 and lies in a plane with the upper edge of an arcuate, substantially rectangular slot or guide opening 30 provided in the forward wall [4, adjacent the bottom wall l2.
slidably positioned on the inner face of the bottom wall l2, and movable into and out of the casing 10 through the opening 30, is a sub stantially rectangular slide or guide 32 having an arcuate or rounded outer edge 34. A recess or coin receiving opening 36 is provided in the forward end of slide 32, and a pair of spaced parallel, lateral arms or straps 38 are integrally formed at the rear edge of the slide 32 to engage the compartment 24 and thus limit the outward sliding movement of the slide 32.
Receivably engaging an internally threaded opening 40 provided in the slide 32, adjacent the stops 38, is the externally threaded portion 42 of a depending hollow member or sleeve 44 having a head portion 46 that slidably engages a longitudinal guide slot 48 provided in the bottom wall l2 and an annular bearing shoulder 50 that bears upon the outer surface of the bottom wall l2.
A shank or shaft 52 extends through the sleeve and a coil spring 62 embraces the shank 52 and is biased between the outer end of the sleeve 44 and the cap to normally urge the shank 52 outwardly to cause the cam 54 to bear upon the 7 top of slide 32. The outer surface of the cap 60 is knurled to provide a finger-engaging surface. Suitably fixed within the housing and to one side wall thereof. is a transversely extending bearing sleeve 64 that receives a transverse pivot pin 66 which also engage a knuckle or sleeve 68 at one edge of a pivotal locking member or substantially rectangular plate of magnetizable material.
The rear transverse edge of the locking member 10 is centrally notched as at 12 to provide a pair of projections or bearing lugs 14 having lips 15 that normally bear upon the upper edges of the projections} or stops 38 when the slide 32 is disposed within the casing [6.
An angular substantially L-shaped spring member 16 is fixed at one leg to the inner face of the rear wall It, and the free leg thereof bears upon the locking member 10 to urge the same into normal locking engagement with the" steps 38, thus preventing sliding movement of theislide- 32.
Suitably mounted in the casing in and on the rear wall i6, is a pair of electro-magnets T8 havmg cores as which are normally spaced from the locking member illand on ei-ther side of the spring 16.
Fixed by a rivet or the like 82-110 the rear wall l6 of 'the casing l0, isthe angulatectend portion 84 of a substantially L-shaped fixed conductive member 86 that isconnectedby wi'res- 68 to' the ele'ctro magnets 18. It being understoodthat the electro-magnets T8 are connected by a further wire 9B'to one terminal ofa vehicleig ni'tiori switch or such other; suitable source of electric current;
The free end of the member 85' is insulated from and secured to-a movable conductive member' QZ-by an insulated spaeerblocle 9' 3, and-the free end of the member 92 supports a contact-tip or element/96 that is normally spaced from a-fur ther' contact tip or elementElS carriedbyniember 85.

In practical use of the present invention; as electrically connected'to the circuit system of a vehicle and more particularly the ignition switch of a vehicle, so that as the ignition-switch is actu'ated' by an operator to an on position, cur-' rent may flow to therelectro-magnet' l8" andthe' movable conductive member 92. The slide32 is disposed-within the casing, and, therefore; the cam 54 urges the tip 98 into circuit closing position. with the tip 93 when thegrip 6B is raised and the coils or electro-magnets 78' will become energized to raise or pivot the locking member [8; upwardly, thus disengaging the projections 14" thereof from the stops 38, and the slide 32"m'ay:be' moved outwardly from the casing lili' the slide 32 is moved outwardly by" the finger-grip- 60; acoin engaged in the opening 36*will-be' dis-' charged from the saidslide into the'h'a'ndof a; user which is disposed beneath the same;
Obviously, as the slide 32 is moved outwardly from" the casing and pressure on gripfid -is re? leased, the cam 54 will disengage themovable conductive member 92, thus breaking the circuit:

In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be. understood, however, that even though there is herein shown arld described a preferred embodiment of the invention, the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprebonded by the spirit of the invention as herein describedt and the scope of the appended claims.
Having; described the invention, what is claimed as'newis:

A coin dispenser comprising a casing including a bottom wall, said casing having a horizontal opening over the bottom wall, a fiat slide member slidably supported on said bottom wall and movable into and out of said casing through said opening, said member including a, coin receiving opening, a coin compartment in said casing having an open bottom overlying the slide member and in registry with said coin receiving opening when the slide member is disposed Within the casing, said slide member including a bifurcated end, each furcation of said bifurcated end having a lateral projection, a swingable locking member in said casing overlying said slide member and engaging said projections to lock the slide member against sliding movement, electric means carried by said casing for raising the locking member away from the projection to permit sliding movement of the slide member, a switch connected to said electric means supported by and within said casing and disposed between said projections and above said slide member, and means carried by and movable with said slide member and slidable laterally of said slide member for engaging and actuating said switch, said bottom wall having a slot receiving said last named means.

A coin dispenser comprising a casing including a bottom wall, said casing having a horizontal opening over the bottom wall, a fiat slide member slidably supported on said bottom wall and movable into and out of said casing through 4 said opening, said member including a coin receiving opening, a coin compartment in said casing having an open bottom overlying the slide member and in registry with said coin receiving opening when the slide member is disposed within the casing, said slide member including a bifurcated end, each furcation of said bifurcated end having a lateral projection, a swingable locking member in said casing overlying said slide member and engaging said projections to lock the slide member against sliding movement, electric means carried by said casing for raising the looking member away from the projection to permit sliding movement of the slide member, a switch connected to said electric means and including a pair of upper and lower elongated conductive members overlying and paralleling said slide member and disposed in said casing, one of said conductive members being secured to said casing, an insulated block joining said conductive members, and a switch operator member carried by and slidable transversely of the slide and underlying said lower conductive member for engaging and forcing the lower conductive member into circuit closing position with said upper conductive member, the bottom wall of said casing including a slot slidably receiving said switch operator member.
